  1. Long passed? The most recent government took control via a coup.
  2. Same story every day. Part of the culture. Lost face can and often does have deadly consequences in the land of smiles.
  3. AI is just the latest invention that will hasten the end of mankind. Probably the most dangerous one as nothing will be real anymore, nothing we see or hear will be trusted. Photoshopping was the start of that. Already AI has been used to make the world's most deadly chemicals even more so. We're like lemmings, throwing ourselves off a cliff. Why, I have no idea and I don't really care. If that's what mankind wants......
  4. We all know about the USA and gun violence. There are so many mass shootings there I don't even bother to read about them anymore. They aren't news. They're expected.
  5. Yes. In the real world most would laugh off someone drawing on their head. In la-la land, the land of smiles, you knife them to death
  6. Cambodia got there first, according to the linked article.
  7. How on Earth do you link this to Strettha? It has nothing to do with him. It's a minister from the outgoing government talking about something he will shortly have no authority to do.
  8. One very weird aspect of Bangkok taxis now, and surely it must confuse tourists, is the light they display. In the real world, where logic applies, a red light would mean the taxi isn't for hire and a green one means that it is. But in la-la land both mean the taxi is available. And to confuse people even more, the driver might still refuse to take you as a passenger, no matter what light he has.
  9. Aren't people wonderful. And there's no point in saying that most people are good and honest. They aren't the problem. As you say, there are many who are. No morals, no honour, no empathy. Human $hit. In Thailand, the soaps that so many Thais love to watch could do scenes depicting people who have suffered from scams and how they can be avoided. And at the same time they could emphasise the dangers and results of bad driving as well, which might wake a few people up. But no. They consist of screaming contests and rich people belittling the poor, which I guess in part reflects the culture.
  10. The visa system here is complicated enough to confuse many. Most, for example, call marriage extensions a visa. It isn't. As for snowbirds, I've learned from this thread that there are many. Interesting. My eyes have been opened.
  11. You mean the job where people kill total strangers? No. Do we need what you term 'dark humour', making jokes about someone who, apparently, tried to kill themselves because of illness? To make jokes about it? It seems that you do. People are strange.
  12. The AN team say they are not free to change what they present to us, but a disclaimer would be nice. But, actually, the headline (produced by Thaiger) is a play on words, as in foul referring to the smell. Still, misleading though and only fit for tabloid journalism.
  13. The article say they were foreign tenants no less than SIX times. Because Thais would never do such a thing. Except that they do, and we read of it numerous times on this site.
  14. A reasonable assumption by the grandmother, bearing in mind a court case involving the parties.
  15. So if I donate we will stop getting click bait articles and will get quality content? (checks under sofa for change) I'm saying that you are complaining about something you are getting for free. It's not unlike people complaining about bank charges, expecting people to provide service to them for free. Anyone providing a service needs to be paid. That's the way the world works. Do you get paid for what you do?
  16. You clearly have no idea about Thai culture. You do what you are told by your elders/'betters', always. You do not say no. Look at what happened to this girl simply for forgetting her racquet. If she had answered back she might have been killed. I suppose the beating makes a change from teachers raping their pupils. That's part of the culture too. As is the school trying to cover it up with a bribe, instead of involving the police. Wonderful country.
  17. Yes. But how much do you pay to read and support the site?
  18. WRONG!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT!!!
  19. Nearly everything is against the law in Thailand. Fortunately, nearly every law is not enforced.
  20. Authorities believe the assailant might be the new girlfriend of Miss Aum's ex-boyfriend, who was involved in a legal dispute that damaged her phone.
  21. I guess I should have written mostly just.... But injuring and killing foreigners is probably less that 1% of the number they afflict upon themselves.
  22. And yet we still get the moronic comments about someone who might have tried to commit suicide. Pathetic, but hardly unusual on this site.
  23. a month after the tsunami and you're whinging about customer service? You have any idea how much destruction it caused and how many lives it took? I think you miss my point. Hotels were desperate for business, along with restaurants etc., yet they were too disinterested to accept my booking. A hotel that pretends to accept a booking but ignores it? Yes, that's appalling customer service at any time, and even more so when they needed every baht they could get. And of course I know about the destruction. I went there a month after the tsunami. You missed that point as well. Not a bad effort, that.
