  1. I am amused and baffled when I see 3 guys on a Honda wave weaving across the roads at high speed with no helmets but with face masks. Because we all know that Covid death rate is so much highre than motorcycle death rate in Thailand.....
  2. Thay were so encouraged by the huge success at the new HuaHin airport......
  3. maybe the first 3 kids were underweight? Chinese culture dictates that chubby kids are a sign of success.
  4. The Credit Score proposal would obviously require previous defaulters to actually improve their money-handling skills...... it should be a no-brainer, but who knows?
  5. maybe the official tasked with this job needed emotional support - the owners of the shop and the gamblers in it were not identified by their profession......
  6. In Thailand this is complicated because so many people never learn to swim. But in other countries there is also - "The Bystander Effect" - in similar situations. As another poster has pointed out - a further modern complication is the moronic cellphone response.
  7. a - why is it a "story" that people in Thailand sometimes do their job? Is it "Amazing" that the maid found the earrings, that the hotel put them to one side for a few days, or that the RTP was somehow instrumental in connecting the dots in this complicated and dangerous case? b- why does the Thai press make a big story about the "rare occasions" that "Thais can be praised"?? c - why does the RTP feel the need to send a Lt-Colonel for a PR photoshoot to show the system works?
  8. Don't we miss the good old days - the Tupolev 154..... "If there is a loss of cabin pressure, you can ask the hostess for a loan of the oxygen mask" Lucky the hostess was plenty strong enough to drag the oxygen bottle down the aisle.... and the animal legs hanging down from the overhead baggage nets......
  9. "the Roman Emperor Claudius II had enforced a law in which all young men were to remain single so that he could improve the quality and size of his army." first time I have heard the theory that remaining single will improve quality and size..... I always thought practice makes perfect.....
  10. I believe that "To Be Number 1" is a highly well-sponsored Thai activity which finds its way onto the TV news at 8pm almost every day......
  11. Probably the best way forward is to license the sale of ground to air missiles to NRA card holders in Texas (for purely self-defence reasons, of course)
  12. not sure what Sunak is actually "risking"... together with his wife they are multi-millionaires with an option to go and get even richer in corrupt India at any time they feel like it.
  13. Let us dream of a day in the distant future when Thailand has E-gates at the airport for foreigners who qualify for visa exempt....... instead of filling up passports with stamps. Maybe a computer system would be a good investment. Singapore has done it........
  14. Irrelevant? So you believe that the average Bulgarian, Romanian and Hungarian tourist will match the spend of the average Swedish, German and UK tourist?? More likely that they will cancel out the "advantage"
  15. "The latest index puts Thailand 4th among ASEAN countries, after Malaysia (40th on global index), the Philippines (52nd on global index) and Indonesia (54th on global index)." and couldn't even beat the banana republic of the philippines, which has the son of an infamous dictator in control, who is in the process of beatifying his father's legacy by rewriting school text books, and without his diplomatic immunity, would be non grata in his US protectorate...... what a triumph. At least Thailand edged out Myanmar....
  16. "tangible evidence of the government’s determination to develop democracy in Thailand and to respect divergent viewpoints." so the more times you switch to a different party without a clear policy and the more public announcements you make about considering an election sometime in the future - the higher you get on the democracy hit parade???
  17. "China has always strictly abided by international law and respected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries," the (CCP) foreign ministry said in a statement. you have to laugh...............
  18. "Another suspect in the case, 32 year old Dnitry Shergin, was arrested last Wednesday and is facing charges of robbery, illegal possession of firearms, carrying a gun in public without a permit, and illegally detaining other people. The police identified Shergin as the suspect after a full investigation. However, the other suspects involved in the incident are still on the run. There has been an increase in incidents of violent crime involving Russians in Thailand in recent times. Just this week, there was a reported case of a Russian woman who went on a rampage and bit a British woman’s finger during a spat over a bean bag chair at the beach. Last month, a Russian tourist was arrested for vandalizing two 7-Eleven branches in Pattaya, causing injuries to himself and others." ok I'll do it - More "quality" tourists....
  19. "A Chinese apology was noted, the official said" pity that the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson usually blatantly lies about almost everything with a straight "FACE" "Eventually, the Chinese foreign ministry claimed the unmanned airship was used for weather research and had blown off course." and the other one?
  20. are Russians really so dumb to listen to this ***? I hope not......
  21. maybe better to give them food instead of money........ on balance they will spend the money un-wisely.....
