"The state wants to get their hands back on the money from tourism that they say has been lost to unscrupulous operators breaking the law."
This really states the true reason for going after these operators.
This really states the true reason for going after these operators = of course, this is a very valid point for REVENUE and government, what's wrong with that?

Sad, but it sounds pretty much in line with normal news from the LoS.
could be normal news from any other country around the globe - may I just for example refer you to the multiple "high-yield US school, university slaughters" ?

"body of Jasper Larsson (name transcribed) .... Police recovered a small bag containing his passport"
why they offer the transcribed name when having the original name and passport on hand?
-
they are called วรนุช here, and that is a perfectly suitable name, amiable !

Unbelievable, a new low for the Thai 'justice' system, can't get wore than this.
a "blow" is something you feel, it hurts, it shames you ... a justice machinery, however, does not have feelings and a real person inside that mechanism (a judge etc.) could not care less

...they saw him entering the water...and said and did nothing...?
why? this apparently was suicide; and: Nobody is one's brother's keeper if that brother is totally ignorant, daft about his environment (red flag)

...trillions in revenue...and unpatrolled beaches....
...some would call this criminal....
don't be childish - this is not a totally fostered country like Europe or the U.S.; it is one of the places where you still have to use your own brains and gauge dangers by yourself. If you fail this task you're dead - so what's the problem?
-
How about asking yourself how you would feel if your home country was famous for sex tourism?
i would be happy and proud - would be a clear signal it is not only old hags, bags and goats in the country

This story, is stranger than fiction! Like where is the blue diamond?
If you do some digging online you will find the most likely place where that thing ended up
might be the precious thing is hidden away under a strawberry field in the outskirts of Munich / Germany

hush hush newsprint editors: They only mention the job title of this gentleman, by no means his real name; why? his personality and the wording "corruption etc." should not collide...very thoughtful of the print media
-
Is that picture really necessary?
unnecessary because interesting details pixelled away

@yacobm8: with your 21 years, you still have plenty of time to learn, to imitate, to suffer, to complain about anybody else's way of driving...why don't you take it easy = take control and drive yourself? you'd feel so much better then

They think: This is our country, we even don't have to think whether this acceptable because we all like it - 68 mill. people. Who cares about some stray farang with their exotic ways of life?

"Thailand needs to develop labour skills"
funny enough: When I took up my 1st assignment in Bangrak way back in 1972, newsprint carried exactly this same head-line. And what happened in between all these years of "frantic learning on the job"? The result is impersonated by the managerial boys and girls in all the DIY- shops, the malls, the arcades, furniture shops, repair centres etc.etc....
...or by the young sales manager of a well- known car brand: "this is real leather" "you mean: real artificial leather?" "yes" "that means plastic?" "no no!!!"
nobody has a f...ing clue yet

I will continue my 12-year boycott of Phuket. Looks like I made the right decision.
I am into my 9th year and never did I regret this decision to never put a foot on that island again

They didn't find enough drugs to charge her with possession.
don't understand: If they really want to find more they know how to do...

I thought there was a Thai bloke who'd figgered a way to convert rotten rice to good stuff. ThaiVisa ran a report on it a few months ago. I think he was the cousin, or brother, of the guy that discovered the Ebola cure.
now it looks like these two blokes found a way to cure ebola with medicals based on molecules of rotten rice - regarding their sense of humour: They obviously picked that up from some esteemed members of the rice-scheme committee (those are reported to still be giggling all day through...)

If nitrous oxide is used frequently (although this is not recommended)...
so it is recommended to use it from time to time? what's the problem then?

Guys and nightlife in Thailand, ok ... but girls? I mean ... What's gonna be next?
you mean...what? I think next will be katoy and tomboys to be found in nightlife, pops and moms after that
