Your advice is good but, I Can't live in a mutual fund LOL. and a bit dangerous when you are retired and don't have the time and energy to make back. Right now I have it parked in US treasuries at 4,7% in three months it matures and I have the option to roll it over at whatever the yield is at the time (right now is 5.5%) or do something different with it . But I have ulterior motives. All my life I never lived further than a couple of miles from the sea. The sea in in my DNA. I am kind of hoping that if we live there for a couple of months out of the year the wife would like it well enough to move there and sell the house in Khon Kaen. If not, then we could sell it and get our money back or more likely rent it. I don't mind the illiquidity , it removes the temptation to blow the money on crap LOL. So at this point I am exploring the possibilities, and if my thinking is right. And who best to ask than people who have been there and done that. But when I know the right questions to ask I will also do my own, independent research. Anyway , I appreciate the feedback from all of you ,

They are trying to do some of the same in the US , but mostly by extending the retirement age. Lucky for many of us is that they cant change thing retroactively, so any changes would be for new recipients, The way I understand it is that you have paid for it trough you hard work , Payroll tax, and from returns on the investments they made with it, and don't let anyone say that the employer paid some of it. There is no such thing as a free lunch, The employer would be paying you more if he did not have the expense of payroll tax, it is still coming out of you. I have figured what I have paid into the system. and if they had let me keep it I could had bought a rental property with it, collect more rent than I get from social security, and still have the property to sell if I so desired. Now I have to beg to get my own money back. Thank god I have my union pension . Unions built America and politicians will destroy it. The goverment claims that they can't afford the high cost of pensions, BS!!! they could if they did not contribute in the " Liberation "of other countries and all the other BS. Charity starts at home, you take care of your own people first and if you do have some leftover you help others. Anyway politicians are cowards , all they care is maintaining and expanding their own power . In the US we call social security the third rail of politics. You touch it and die. I suggest you all develop the same attitude, it is the only thing politicians understand .

I was just talking to a buddy of mine who is Australian (I am American, and clueless about Australian politics, ) on FB, he had dropped off the face of the world and then I saw he posted a picture of a lake , and I said that looks nice where is it, and he said "Australia" , I said what are you doing in Australia, and he told me he had to go back and do the two years for his pension. That's crazy!! He has to leave his house and wife here, and go live in Australia for two years so he would not lose his Pension? And he explained the situation to me. What a crazy and stupid thing, no wander he is always complaining about Australian politicians, It is crazy because it's your pension, you earned it. He said they dont want retired people to leave the country with their pension. That's stupid If I was them I would want all the old people who use all the services and medical to leave . Anyway , I feel bad for you guys. Hope the change that stupid system.

Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
sirineou replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
I am still not sure what your answer is because you bifurcate and qualified the answered with the " propaganda ministries. " comment. Originally you told me that they were "which houses the ministry of economic development, the digital ministry and the ministry of industry and trade. " and provided a link, now you say that these were not economic development . digital, industry, and trade miniseries but rather "controlled civilian propaganda ministeries. " what is that suppose to mean. Then you made a comment about " Pathetic comparison"???? Where did I compare anything? Please provide quote. -
First let me start by tanking you all for taking the time to reply. I's appreciated!!1 I am not familiar with that area, Appreciate the heads up, I will take a look I realise that there is the liquidity issue. This a long term investment . This is my first step towards researching the issue, At this time I an trying to learn what would the right questions be to be asking myself and others . If I do decide to buy, how lowere from the asking price do you think I should be offering. I am not! I am here as a first step towards learning more about the area. Issue, and perhaps other areas I should be thinking about. At this point I don't even know , if I am asking the right questions. Like what are the average maintenance (HOA) fees and what do they cover, I was thinking about Airbnb. have not rely looked into it yet. But yes Midterm rentals might be an option . That was my thinking also , If I could subsidize the property appreciation return with mid term rentals or an Airbnb type of setup then I can have a place to stay at for a couple of months and get a decent return down the line on my investment. Who knows if we like it there, and I could convince the wife to move , we perhaps could sell the house in Khon Kaen. Trust me I would not mind getting out of this area, as nice as it is.

Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
sirineou replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
With all do respect my friend, I posted asking if these were civilian targets to which you chose to reply, You make a lot of good but arguable claims , but that was not my question nor do I wish to argue any of these arguable points, First I said that these look to me like civilian targets to which you replied that they were trade ministries and such. I answered back. Aren't ministries civilian. Perhaps you answer it, but if you did it was buried in a bunch of other diflections , If so please please cut the portion where you did, and paste it in a reply. -
As the title implies We have some money sitting making a little less than 5% and we were thinking of perhaps buying a condominium. Anyone who has any experience, is that a good investment. what is the market like there? how are resales ? I know very little about the area and would appreciate and advice.

A electrical pressure washer (not too expensive) works miracles . I do it twice a year. If you get one you would be pressure washing everything that does not move LOL

sirineou replied to OzMan's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Your extension and any re-entries you might have expires on the last day of said extension, and you have to start over again, My extension expired while I was out of the country last summer because I was in a third country as a tourist and did not want to bother getting a non O visa , I came back wisa exempt and started the process again, but it was not a big deal and not that much more work. Mine was moree marriage and I always have the funds in the bank. -
15,000 baht a shot? and she still was not happy. I'd say your friend wasn't doing something right. Have you spoken with him about the birds and the bees?

They are a bunch of hypocrites. I suspect atheists and agnostics are better Christiane than they are. I also hope Graham's' ass gets what he deserves, and this festering boil on the ass of the body politic . along with many other republicans is removed. -
I sympathise with you, As the site safety manager for a High-rise construction co, in the US. before moving to management, I was climbing up and down the top three floors our company was responsible for, (floors below were handed to other trades). My legs are shot!! (Swimming laps is good, low impact exercise for that) Anyway, We build our house while I was working and made three times what my retired income is now, And build the two story house I always wanted) Big mistake because back then I never thought I would get older. Lucky for me I did, and going up those stairs is a pain. I will walk up to go to bed only to realise I forgot my phone in the car, down the stairs and Up the stairs again, Grrr Another thing to consider is although wood is wonderful (I love it) . It requires a lot of maintenance, and you might be willing and able to do so now, but what about when you get older? and how about after you pass away and you leave the wife along , would she be able to maintain it? Anyway just some food for thought, you best know your what you like and need. Start your own Thread so we can flow you building story. Best of luck

I always found the reporting in Asean Now forum to be species-centric with an obvious bias in support of humans. How about the prevailing Human oppression of water buffaloes. (or is the correct term Buffaloid) ?? Hee picture below. Personally I am outraged and have half a brain to report them!
