The roof would have to be attached to something. Usually it is welded to the rebar on the columns, the rebar transfers the forces from the roof to the foundation Load, or compression is not the only force. Sure it can support the weight of the roof. when the wing gets under the roof where it extends from the wall (usually 1m) you have an upward load. (tension) . If you are using AAC block all the way to the top . without columns, or a ring beam , the only thing that is holding the roof from blowing away is the top course of AAC block . First potential issue is that AAC block is soft and your unchors could pull away especially after years of this happening repeatedly during windy season. Second potential issue is that the block you have the roof attached too, could detach from the one below . if you go without columns ,one way to mitigate this is a concrete ring beam , another way is to have straps from the roof to the foundation. So true story. Me and my friend were visiting his uncle in Homestead FL after hurricane David had hit there. His Development was situated around a home made lake . and almost every house was leveled except his. This is what he said, and how it was explained to him by the insurance adjuster. a couple of weeks before the hurricane, the unit next to him was burglarized. They went in through the window, and my friends uncle went and had steel rolled down shutters installed to all of his windows . What the insurance guy said is, that in situations such as a hurricane what happens is that the windows blow in first, the wind getch in the house and lifts the roof, without the roof holding the wall box together , the walls colapse outwards. Since then it is code in FL , that straps are installed tying the roof to the foundation. I hope this little story made what I tried to convey a bit clearer, If you look at the picture in my first post, you will see a ring beam 1/3rd the way up under the window .and then you will have a lintel over the window. This is because I used double 7.5 cavity wall . it is more apparent in this picture. In this picture you can see that the AAC block goes all the way to the top, because my roof is welded to the rebar sticking out from the top of the columns. If you are making only one room , am I to assume it is and addition to an existing structure? if so, them you probably only need two columns, you could even buy the precast ones, thy are very cheap and easy to use. I used them at my farm where I made a 4x8 meter staracture, and we had 6 precast columns up in one day . next day we poured the slab. One day we had the roof and the next couple of days block window and door.

I stop buying Mayo. My sister showed my how to make and I was amazed hoe easy it was, 2 eggs , Oil , a teaspoon of vinegar, or lemon .a pinch of salt and a bit of mustard,. Whip for less than a min with a stick blender , and you have Mayo. Leave it plain, or add any spice you like,. I like a bit of wasabi. I was amazed how easy it was . Wish I knew that all y life, If you don't already know how to make it, serch YouTube, plenty of videos.

No surprise that Diabetes incidence are skyrocketing, and not only in Thailand, but in Thailand moreso. I have stopped buying many of the street foods that I used to enjoy because they are loaded with sugar. Many of them taste like desserts. A few months ago, maybe more, while shopping at Makro is saw Hunts plain spaghetti sauce. I thought I was familiar with the brand and got some for when I make home made pizza and am too lazy to make my own sauce,. After I made the pizza it tasted sweet, and I was confused,. I usually put a little bit of sugar when I proof my yeast, just to wake it up, so I am thinking maybe I made a mistake and put too much, But i was sure I had not, And then I tasted some of the remaining sauce in the can , and boy was it sweet! Now I am not sure if Hunts has changed their recipe (but I don't think so) ,or of they have a special recipe for export to south east Asia.

Trump says abortion law should be determined by states
sirineou replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Great idea! wealthy women would be able to travel to another state and have their abortion, where the poor would have to settle for back alley abortions. Brilliant!! -
Some here, very windy late in the day, and we got some rain overnight. This morning felt nice and cool.

Yea , what I think I had was Heat exhaustion. I exibited all the symptoms in your list. I felt like crap . What is important to remember and it took me a while to realise it also that day , is that when we sweat we lose essential electrolytes'. The bottle water we all buy is reverse osmosis or distillation and is not replenishing these electrolytes. I realised that when a laid down and started getting leg cramps . IN my youth when we played tennis in the hot FL sun we would take salt pills and potassium. I did not have any, so I had salt water and then ate a banana, because I remember reading some place that bananas are full of potassium. Not sure if I did the right thing , I am not a doctor. but I felt better afterwards . I got these from the local pharmacy. can't read what the ingredients are but it got to be better than nothing , I will go online and order some electrolyte replacement pills. Anyway I thought I would put that out there to consider,

If done properly 10cm AAC is load bearing, having said that , I would not Recommend it it. The operative phrase here is "If done properly" and the locals here are used to working with columns. In addition the slab would have to be reinforced which would negate the savings from not using columns. Also you would have to pour a ring beam on top to attach the roof metal, and since the AAC block is soft it has little tension strength, (what makes it load bearing is it's compression straight). So that would also eat on your savings from not run columns. If I was doing that I would also use galvanised straps to transfer the wind load from the roof to the slab. When in Rome do as the Romans do !!! 7.5 AAC costs 28.75 bht at Thaiwasadu , 10cm is special order and I found it at 43 bht So for almost the same price as a single 10 cm AAC you can get 15 cm of AAC by using the double 7.5 s . Also you will get a cavity if you do wished (highly recommend it) and would hide your columns!!!! . For your interior walls, single 7.5 is adequate for additional savings!! Also since 10cm would have to be special order you will have to buy extra to compensate for waste. 7.5 is everywhere, probably 10 places have it in stock in your area. So you can get a little as you want and if you need more, drive to Thai wasady, or Do home and get some more.

Yea me to , They were really not very hard to make . They just took a bit of time, the little trick I learned for rolling them really helped. I got the grape leaves from this place on Lazada and I must say they shipped fast and the leaves were top quality, I will certainly order from them again. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/i3635746374-s21187488494.html?urlFlag=true&mp=1 Oh one thing I did that might have helped was that before using the leaves I put them in boiling water for a minute and then left them in the hot water for about 10 minutes.

41 c and sunny. Earlier today I got bored sitting inside the house in the AC and decided to ho to our play farm, about 5 minutes from our house and do some work. Specifically make a concrete base for a 2M tall water tank tower I am making for watering some gardening . It was very hot and I found myself huffing an puffing. I had the state of mind to pack it in and go back home. Another . also older member, in a conversation we had mentioned that he was having a hard time with this heat and his A/C wasn't working well. So it got me Thinking , some of us are no spring chickens and even those who are need to be careful with this weather. Heat stroke can easily sneak up on you. So take it easy and be careful out here!

This heat is getting to all of us, I was getting bored so I went to the farm , about 5 min from our house to play around . It was so hot I thought I would have a heart attack , I paced it in and went back home. Got to be carefully in this heat. None of the people who have issues , think it would happen to them , until it does. Hope you have a fan going and keeping hydrated.

I am right there with you mate. It makes me sick to my stomach to see this things, Same here, but you are not the only one whos getting older. I see a word redlined as misspelled, the drop down window gives me three choices but if I am not wearing my glasses , I can't see any of them, unfortunately You can not zoom in the drop down spelling window. Getting older has its challenges , but consider the alternative I don't remember who said it. "I have nothing against old age, I hope to die of old age " No proleme, I know you are a good guy.

Speaking Thai - is it necessary these days for an expat ?
sirineou replied to The Cobra's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
That's exactly what I was thinking Mike. Does he really want to know why so many of us don't speak the language? Or is he really taking this opportunity to "Hey look at me" "why cant you all be as good as me" IMO a thinly veiled sign of insecurity.- 208 replies

Dude!! How long do you know me in this forum???? Do you think that based on my 15 years in this forum attitude I would think that the aid workers were really Hamas??? "Now please explain the "You always seem to find an excuse, wrong words, missing question mark, but never seem to answer the questions." Always???? realy ???? please provide another incident where I defaulted to excuses?? And "never seem to answer the questions " what are the questions and when did I not answer them ? You always used to be a reasonable person, What happened to you? are the ravages of old age finally catching up with you?
