  1. An online poll? Seriously? This is how the government proposes to govern the country? SMH
  2. The majority of public feedback? I would suggest that the answer you get is defined by whom you ask. To get a true voice of public opinion it would be necessary to hold a referendum. As in let the people speak. Except the last referendum results were ignored, weren’t they. Hence MFP is not in power. This nonsense about cannabis is going to go on and on ad infinitumand frankly, it’s boring. If it isn’t decriminalized then nothing will change, if it is recriminalised, even the PM suggests small amounts will be ignored so as to reduce arrests! In other words, no change. How many more articles will we read about a situation that isn’t going to change? Let me get back to watching my paint dry.
  3. I don’t believe he is blind. Sarcastic maybe, but not blind. You on the other hand are blind enough not to be able to see obvious sarcasm.
  4. Sooo, when they say no illegal activities, what they actually meant to say was that other than flouting licensing hours there was no illegal activity. well I guess you have to be allowed one mulligan.
  5. “chinese punters thought that money can buy everything suggesting their morals are questionable. “ Ya think?
  6. I don’t think their visas have been revoked. Probably because they didn’t kick anyone in the back.
  7. Don’t think anything on the machine failed. He failed to push a button. Can’t see what the bank can do to stop that happening
  8. You didn’t pay 800k baht for your visa. That money is still in your bank account and you can withdraw it if you want…….if you don’t want another visa next year. The cardboard box idea is new though 🤔
  9. 8000 arrested over ten years. In other words, and average of 800 per year. Hardly streets teeming with beggars stuff. I’m not sure I have ever seen beggars in Phuket tbh. Maybe in Patong, but I don’t go there. In Udon there are always a few dotted around Tong Si Meung, normally outside 7-11’s. In Bangkok Sunhamvit area, sure. There are beggars on and under pedestrian bridges across major intersections, but again, a few. Nothing like Siem Reep for instance. I dunno, the stats just don’t stack up from what I see with my own eyes. But who are you going to believe, the stats or your own eyes?
  10. Every penny that comes from government coffers sourced from tax, is an extra penny in their own profits. Put another way, why invest your own capital to develop a tourist attraction, if the government will do it for you?
  11. “But for more critical problems related to Thai tourism, such as inferior supply development, we’re not able to give them any score as nothing has been done to help resolve the problem.” if they have done nothing, then that is a zero score, not a no score.
  12. Not a hassle at all. But in Thailand? Would last a week and then be forgotten. Maybe also so in many countries. cant say that I have ever been in a sauna where it was checked by staff. Guess England, Austria and Finland just aren’t safety conscious jurisdictions, damn them. RIP poor lady.
  13. “Thailand offers numerous free public restrooms“ Really? Gas stations, yes. Other than that? Very few and far between.
  14. Best make sure it’s not as long as 6 months in the future. That 12k might be treated as income and taxed. with all the tax rolling in from foreign remittances to Thailand, there’s no need to tax tourists another 300 baht per visit now.
  15. Clearly this guy is no tourist. If he were, he would have gone home and forgotten the incident. The fact he has a lawyer in Phuket and intends to return in September indicates he has business and/or family here. Investigative journalism this isn’t.
  16. All the dogs that I have seen in villages across Isaan, are not “pets” in the Western sense of the word. They are street dogs that roam around their village territory, under nourished, un medicated, untrained, unwashed and unvaccinated. Many are aggressive. Many are in packs, because an “owner” has several dogs. taking off rose tinted glasses from Western eyes, these aren’t very far from wild dogs. The dog in question in the article will be on a chain for as long as the owner can be bothered to keep it there. I fear, not long. After that, all bets are off on whether the dog bites again. Odds are it will for one reason or another. That is reality.
  17. Arrivals? Where did you read that? That comes under future plans, so don’t hold your breath.
  18. A few years behind Singapore, but I suppose it’s fine for them to tout themselves as fore runners of what is already widely used tech. Now if they can just get the travelators to stop chopping off passengers legs, people might enjoy using their airport. Oh, what, wait, the new system will probably need maintenance from time to time. Darn, another improvement goes slowly down the drain.
  19. Making more money is my guess. Licence to operate have to be paid for and someone has to decide to whom they should be allocated. gotta love the use of the phrase “ spanning half a decade”. Isn’t it easier to say 5 years?
  20. Possible. Also possible that the right payments are being made and the occasional raid like this one is so that the correct appearance of the application of the law exists. I mean, they did a raid only in February and already they have to do another one. So tedious having to do 3 raids a year on a store 100 meters from the police station. Don’t crims know the BIB is seriously over worked!/s
  21. I think it’s banned from public consumption already. But you know what that means in Thailand. Sweet FA.
  22. I couldn’t care less whether people choose to use cannabis or not, their choice. but I do object to my having to put up with the smell these shops generate. Riding down the road on my motorbike I know when I am passing a cannabis shop simply by the smell wafting across the road. And a couple of restaurants I like are now out of bounds due to the smell from newly opened cannabis shops next door. I can’t speak for other areas in Thailand, but in Phuket most cannabis shops seems to have outside seating areas where patrons can smoke and socialize. The smell generated is very unpleasant for those around them. it’s all very reminiscent of the days when going to a pub or even in an office would leave one’s clothes reeking of cigarette smoke. Individuals can do what they want to themselves, but why should others suffer?
  23. A lot of talk about mafia connections and “crimes” which sound serious, but the only crimes the alleged gang have been arrested on are dodging a hospital bill, overstay and stealing a motorbike. They don’t sound like criminal masterminds or up there with the Gambino family. Lowlifes for sure though
  24. I think that you miss the point that people contemplating suicide are for a variety of reasons, emotionally disturbed. Your rational thinking and logic is not a factor. Nor is being selfish or unselfish. you do realize people in the position of contemplating suicide are not thinking logically or rationally and THAT is the main issue. These people need help, not a condescending charge of being selfish.
  25. “At the scene, both Thai and foreign tourists were visibly distressed, watching the unfolding event. Hotel staff attempted to manage the crowd, pushing onlookers away from the area and using metal barriers to cordon off the site.” not so distressed that they couldn’t stand and watch then. RIP to the deceased
