Yeah, like the guys talking about what it was like "In 'nam" when they were about 14 or 15 when the war ended
Ahhhh 'Nam back in '74. I remember it very well and still have the scars and the nightmares.
I was actually on the No.74 bus going through Pratunam when the driver stood on the brakes. I went flying and bashed my head on the hand rail.
ahhhh.. I like the smell of Tiger Balm in the morning.

Looks like the hilltop temple at the Thong Pa Phum junction. Near to Khao Laem dam and reservoir.

I am sure it is something Freudian... six is the closest sounding word in the English language to Sex... the 'arrow down' also... why not 'scroll down'? >>-----> is also phalic... Unless somebody has another phsychologicl explanation???
I hadn't thought of the "arrow down" thing.
Good point!
(no pun intended)
I thought of marrow.
What does getting it right or wrong supposed to mean? Or is it just a fun thing?
Thailand Forum > General > Jokes - make my day!
What I meant was...is there an explanation to why people think of a particular response? As Ravi said...it could be something freudian or the image of arrows might trigger something in our subconscious.
I've seen these type of things before and sometimes there'll be a logical explanation behind the choosing of an answer.
Or...is it just a fun thing and something that can't really be explained?
That's all I was asking.

I've lived in a village on the banks of the Maekong and have lived in the BKK city center.
Now I get the best of both worlds and live in a mooban on the BKK/Patum Thani border.
Easy access to city for business and shopping, while living in a little community partly surrounded by greenery.
A full days ride to the furthest of most places and only a 90 minute ride away from the mountain greenery of Khao Yai.

whre's the best places for used bikes in los?
do u get a lot in baht and sold etc?
I would agree with Captain Chaos and go for a 400cc or maybe even the small chopper type bikes like the Phantom or Boss (175cc). Parts and maintenance easily available and can be used to commute and a bit of touring too.
For Harleys and bikes mentioned above try some of these links.
This site is all in Thai but you can get some idea of 'sold privately' second hand prices. Some bargains can be found if you're patient enough.
For second hand Harleys I've found Siam Speedway to have a good turn around of used bikes. I've bought two from there in the past.

For other shops in BKK check this out.

Don't forget, you may have to put aside approx 10,000baht for a decent helmet and riding gear. Better and cheaper to buy a good helmet in UK and bring it over with you.
Ask all the questions you want as it makes a nice change from 'What is your GF's favourite flip-flop colour?' type of thread.

Resale value on a Harley would depend on how often you plan to use it.
I bought a '98 Harley for 700k in 2000 figuring that I could sell it again privately for the same amount (or very near) a few years later.
I'd be lucky to get 350k for it now.
Why? Because I've put on 120k worth of kms on the clock. I've seen other bikes just as old as mine with only 4-5 thousand on the clock going for 500 - 600k looking like they've just come out of the crate.
Then you've got to think about maintenance costs if you do plan to use often. Parts you can get over the counter but they're expensive.
Ideally, you should look around for a bike being sold privately. A good low price with low mileage and then when it's still low on mileage after a year of use, sell it and get another.

Here's a link that may help some of you guys. Occassionally UBC don't show some of the competition games but it will be shown on a Thai channel. It's also good to see at a glance who's playing who and at what time and channel.
I still have trouble reading that small print in the UBC mag.

Wow! Is that a 'site for sore eyes' or what??
-
And to the guy who said he hates golf and this is why he has never tried it.......sorry mate but u are also a tosser !! How can u hate it if u never tried it ! My mum used to say that about vegetables.....now I eat em all !!
When I replied with " I'm probably like you Pat, I've never tried golf 'cause I hate it.
", it was meant as humour. See the smilie?
I guess you still don't eat all your carrots then? Oh!...and too much tossing can make you go blind. (btw, that was humour too).

I steer around them if on a quiet road. If they're on a busy road I don't risk my life trying to do so.
Only time I've ever stopped to try and take a photo of one, was down in Yala. A huge cobra reared up just as I missed running over it's tail. I stopped and turned the bike around but when I got to the spot where I saw it, it had vanished into the undergrowth.

Aletta, anyone,
Are white doves native to Thailand?
Coming back from the Cambodian border I pulled into a petrol station on the main road in Kabinburi. While sitting outside the 7-11 drinking coffee I looked up and saw a pair of white doves sitting on the telephone wires overhead.
It was only when I looked at them again that I realised that I couldn't recall ever seeing them before in Thailand.
Doves that look like a smaller variety of Collier I see and hear everyday but not white ones.
I was going to ask the gf about them but I feared she might've seen a romantic significance in the sighting.

If you're in BKK you could try Khao Yai NP. You can easily do it as a day trip.
Go to the HQ in the park and at the restaurant you will see a book with photos explaining tours, treks, rafting, safaris, prices etc.
You may find some more info with a google search.
-
Be patient, you might see some beautiful parrots etc if you add some chopped up fruit to the seed
Not the only sad old git out there then.
Who are you calling an 'old git'?
You sound just like my great great great grandson.

If you're in Supanburi then there might be one nearer to you in Chainat or just south of Uthai Thani.
I've noticed signs for one when riding to the North along the R32. Don't know the name though.
In Kanchanaburi there's plenty of National Parks but can't see anything on my maps specifically for bird sanctuaries, which I assume are mostly marsh-type areas that attract waders and the like.
-
There are quite a few bird/wildlife sanctuarys around Thailand. The only one that I know of being nearest to you would be a sanctuary in Konburi district of Khorat province. Possibly one even nearer depending on where you are exactly.
Get a good map like those printed by PN Maps, they show NPs, tourists sites, bird sanctuaries etc., or search on google.
-
I'm not a twitcher but I've noticed more birds in and around my mubaan in North BKK than out in the flatlands of the outer provinces.
Here there's sparrows, pigeons, doves (looks like Collier) wagtails, mynahs, swifts or swallows, herons or ibis I see flying over the village often.
Possibly in the farmlands it's difficult for wildlife to breed. As you say, if it moves then it's lunch.

I agree that a new forum should be set up.
I remember in the new clippings a topic about a clampdown on prostitution that had about 12,000 hits and God knows how many pages of replies. At the same time, a topic about the westernisation of Loi Krathong only received about half a dozen replies.
Clearly it shows that a lot of members are more interested in prozzies than the cultural aspects of Thailand.
At least give it a go anyway.
Although as an after-thought, wouldn't it bring the real sickos and sleazo's from other boards. I imagine it wouldn't be long before they start causing probs in the other topics.

chips
chips are what you get in macdonalds.
we are talking crisps here.
depends on where you come from...same same in Aust.
Samboy chips/crisps same thing.
Been to a few hotel restaurants and ordered steak and chips and been served crisps. Silly me for being fooled twice.

Any good way to avoid them or kill them softly?
I have tried many ways, but no use.
You could try killing them softly with a Carly Simon song or just use a fluffy pillow.

A few years ago I took out 20k from one ATM and then quickly went to another and did the same.
Maybe it can still be done.

according to a story in the post the projected journeys to the new airport will start with 100,000 to the airport every day ! thats presumably workers and tourists !
where are they gonna find the taxis and cars to take them all ! there wont be any MTS
for a while so thats a lot of taxis ,buses, trucks , bikes and tuktuks !
could some mathamatics expert work out the area of roadspace needed to cater for this lot ? and parking spaces ,ball park figures ....
I for one just hope that the airport authority charges a higher daily price for parking at the airport short term car park and then I might actually get a space at terminal one which is currently fully occupied by TG staff parking there - presume on some kind of free pass - really hacks me off.
Digger, I live in a muuban very near the airport and my soi alone of about 40 townhouses has around 15 TG employees consisting mostly of ground crew and air-hostesses. I see them everyday going to and from the airport, most of them in cars. A few of them know each other very well but for some reason they all go to work seperately in their own cars.
It only takes me about 15 mins to get to the airport using public transport but 25 mins using my mc.
Seems that Thais don't know about the benefits of 'car pooling.'

One shouldn't forget this one.
The Zorro Dump.
As it starts spinning down towards the bend during the flush, it leaves it's signature marks on the inside of the bowl. Then you have to quickly reach for the bum squirter to erase the marks before the bowl fills up with water again.

Get a PS. As mentioned, there's tons of games for them. Don't see too much for the xbox.
Also, add on 900-1000baht for memory card to save game positions.
If you haven't got a tv then get a cheap new one for around 4,000b or a used one for next to nothing(you would only need to use the video channel).
Personally I don't bother with pc games anymore. They always seem to cause problems with the pc too.

"Don't ever insult me again by calling me Khun George W Raspberrybush!"
