  1. Same here BMT..Like you my pension gets transferred here every month and I use it all.My nest egg is separate from that. I'm fortunate enough to have no debts so its smooth sailing. BTW..are you mending okay since the H&R incident?
  2. I have a will made by my Thai lawyer stipulating that I want a Buddhist cremation arranged by my Thai wife. Her and her family know this.I can't imagine any issues popping up but TIT.We,ve already selected the temple. 555 I don't keep large money in the bank and she has my pin #s. Our assets are mainly gold so no need for probate etc. In my estate planning I've downloaded and mostly filled out the appropriate forms for her to begin receiving a Survivors Pension from my gov't. I do believe and hope I didn't overlook anything.
  3. I've been buying stuff from them off and on for about 20+ years.I think the old mom & pop have retired and the son has taken over the reigns. The original owners were always friendly and helpful no matter the malady. I dealt with the son once and he seemed on top of things at the time. I'd recommend them for sure going by past experience.
  4. E-bay/Amazon works for me.However I've noticed that shipping has gotten very expensive since CV.If you can find farang sizes here get them locally.
  5. OMG..There are several "Chinese" police offices in Canada.Allegedly to assist chino tourists. In reality they're looking for targeted individuals/dissidents to shut them up.Once they have a foot in the door who knows what authority they will take. This whole idea stinks. Chinese coppers on Walking Street. sheesh
  6. While we're on the subject. We've lived in the same house and mooban for 16 years.Last year the old house next door was knocked down and a 4br "pool villa" built . It's advertised on Booking.com by Chinese investors. Every 3-4 days a new group arrives and and it's party time.Getting woken up at 3am is no joke, when they get back from the clubs they head directly into the pool which is on the side that abuts our br. I'm investing 40k on new laminated widows in the hope it works. Apparently we can complain to city hall...but how effective will that be? At any rate its a residential area and not commercial.Isn't it basically a hotel? I'm not very optimist...anyone?
  7. Agreed,I spent a month in PP earlier this year.I bought USD with THB in LOS before I left. It was easy from there on in.No hassles with changing money and painless as things were mostly less expensive in some places. Arrive with USD cash is my advice. To be honest I never tried an ATM withdrawal so I can't speak about fees.
  8. She's got more chins than the Hong Kong phone book.
  9. I've had more p___y then you've had hot meals. Fight,f__k or hold the light! She hit every branch of the ugly tree on the way down.
  10. NZ Pure South Prime Steer A Grade Ribeye Grass Fed I get these from Smokey Mountain foods @ 330 baht/300 grams.I find them excellent quality.Nice and thick and perfect for pan sear w garlic as mentioned elsewhere.
  11. My stepdaughter works at King Power. They are down in sales significantly. They are juggling staff between Pattaya, Bangkok and U Tapao every month. The heyday is over for them. She says some days her sales are zero or only a couple thou. Pre CV several tour busses would arrive each day and her sales topped out at 200k per month. I've advised her to have a plan"B" just in case.
  12. In my case my pensions total about 70k/ month. My tax free amount is around 400k/year.(400 div by 12) =33k transferred into my bank acct and 37k in cash from an ATM for living expenses. There's my 70k. That just might work.
  13. Good point. When I 1st came to retire here I moved into Diana Estates because of thre location right in the guts of the action. After 1 year it got old and I moved further afield. You correctly said it, I spent most of my time withing 1 mile of the place.I never needed a bike/car but used baht bus all the time or walked.
  14. Just what we need. They knocked down the old house next to ours and built a big 4br "pool villa" available on Booking.com.So will the 3 am pool parties we suffer now become all nighters? Not a damn thing we can do about it.When we complain to the owner she says call me and I'll stop them. She never replies to our complaints until the next day. Seriuosly thinking of selling up and moving after 16 yrs in this house.TIT, but where is it guaranteed to be quiet? Sleepless in Pattaya. It was a very quiet moo ban until this Chinese invasion. The new owners are investors and not residents and therefore don't give a rats ass.
  15. I've been saying that for years. They want you to use an agent. It's easy $ for them.Cash deal. When you do it by the book its more difficult to skim. I did my own for many years until 1 time after yet another run around I switched to using an agent.FYI I compared both signatures and they are identical?
  16. Try DEE Money.I haven't tried it though.
  17. I tend to agree with your statement. However in my case the Canadian tax authority deems that my pension income is below a certain threshold and states in a letter that I should pay zero income tax which I do not.My pensions are tax free. My concern is whether or or not the Thai RD will acknowledge this detemination or will they insist on some tax?
  18. Good point.Several years ago I purchased an IPO unit for 100,00 baht thru ING Bkk for a "then" long term gf. I told her to just hang on to it as an investment. 2 months later we had a fight and she moved out.Upon checking with ING it turned out she sold the whole lot while we were still together. 555 A lot of them will only know poverty their whole life.A chum of mine had his gf borrow money against the house he had built for her and ended up losing it to the lenders (mafia) There are endless stories just like these. Maybe land won't be so liquid.
  19. TBH I recall a <deleted>ty childhood. My old man worked away mostly and when he was home my folks fought like cats and dogs. He finally left when I was about 12 yo and it was poverty thereafter. My mom struggled to support me and younger sis. School was a disaster and as soon as I was old enough I joined the Navy. Best thing I ever did for myself. I grew up there. I was introduced to alcohol big time and have only come to grips with that at age 72. I left after 6 years submarine service and it opened up a lot of doors. I went to tech college for 1 year. Somehow I managed a 30 yr career as a Power Engineer and took early retirement at 55. Relocated to LOS and never looked back. Happily collecting my pensions and supporting my Thai family. I consider myself fortunate.
  20. Same as you, tried several times and finally gave up. Why do they even let us get that far to apply if there is no intention to give one.ffs
  21. Next thing they'll be asking is "do you sit down to pee"? sheesh
  22. Very interesting.I've also been collecting a union pension since Jan1st,2006.I worked at a smelly pulp mill in Canada for exactly 30 years and took early retirement as soon as I hit 55.I happily accepted the 18% penalty.I consider myself fortunate that the plan has been well invested and I receive periodic increases.I think I'm ahead of the game is spite of the fact 10% of my pay was deducted for this benefit for 30 yrs. Between this plus 2 other CDN govt pensions I can afford what I consider a decent living here in LOS.
  23. I left Cda in 2004 and moved to LOS permenantly.I will never go back and besides I wouldn't fit in with what I see on the telly these days. I have med insurance here and have used both private and govt hospitals with no issues.
  24. Canada has OAP at 65 whether or not you ever worked. In theory you can come out of prison at 64 and enjoy OAP for the seat of your life.Just get used to using food banks and line up behind the so called asylum seekers.
  25. Perhaps keep it with your passport?
