  1. Maybe she was going cheap and they were fighting like two women at a Harrods sale.
  2. The odd whisky or six late at night guarantees that I normally have trouble staying awake, not sleeping. However, I don't go to bed if someone in the area is playing bass-heavy music or dogs are barking persistently, two things I can count on to stop me nodding off.
  3. No they didn't. As far as I can see by the vid the father started it, but that's no excuse for the unprofessional and animalistic behaviour of the bouncers. As someone mentioned, it's lucky the older guy wasn't killed by one of those kicks to the head. The old guy is probably three times the age of any of those thugs, I thought locals were supposed to have great respect for their elders. I suppose that only applies if the old guy is Thai.
  4. Problem is, it'd probably be up to us to produce one from our home country, which would mean yet another piece of paper to hand to immigration. I don't have a clue how to go about it. Would it involve the good old British Embassy? I'm sure they'd be very helpful.
  5. MF should also give an assurance to their voters that their next leader is going to be as clean as a whistle, because if he isn't, the same will happen again. This military appointed Senate, CC and EC will be watching like hawks and only optimists will think that they won't.
  6. Someone ought to tell Pattaya fuzz that if you've been eating lots of pies, you don't wear tight uniforms.
  7. In my 17 years of living in the Pattaya area I've never seen any major violence here, much less been involved in it. In the last town where I lived in the UK on a weekend, it was like walking through Beirut during the troubles. Violence of some description guaranteed, you could smell it in the air. During my early years here I spent a lot of time in the city centre, most times until the early hours, but always felt perfectly safe. However, in a place with a high number of different nationalities, you're bound to get the odd incident. When something does kick off, it always gets a big splash in the media providing fuel for the Pattaya-haters to wade in with their twopenneth.
  8. Ate buffalo occasionally during my 4 years in India. Quickly got fed up with the taste and texture.
  9. Here we go. I won't be going anywhere near Pattaya City or the beach areas until next Thursday at the earliest. I've got my booze in and any small items I'll get from the local 7/11s. The only thing I won't be able to avoid is the locals playing their loud bass-heavy music, which happens during every public holiday break.
  10. Me too, but it seems a shame that expats who don't have family or friends in the UK whose address they can use are beggared. In my opinion, everyone with a UK passport and pays tax to the UK should be entitled to a bank account. I've never had enough cash in the bank to go into the ins and outs of money laundering, so I'm willing to conceded that that could be a somewhat naive view.
  11. Not just Thailand, but I would sanction any country seen to be helping Russia by trading with them, not only in weapons, but anything. Maybe go further and extend sanctions to those who won't publicly condemn them. It's obvious that short of boots on the ground, the screw needs to be turned on them.
  12. That happens across the board and isn't unique to one party.
  13. You touched a raw nerve there. I think it was very appropriate and in my opinion emphasises the fact that you can be whatever gender you think you are, but there are only two sexes. Personally, I'm fed up with reading about it. It has the same effect on me as the Harry and Megan pantomime.
  14. .......and we all know who wrote the latest constitution. Saying that, and I've said it several times before, I still can't figure why Pita didn't bin those shares before the election.
  15. Not in my book. If premeditated, they should be put down.
  16. I just feel sorry for mine, she's such an optimist. I told her before the election that after all the re-jigging of the laws after the last coup, there was no way that a non-military guy was going to be allowed to sit in the driving seat. Stand by for several years of Jabba the Hutt.
  17. If you've chosen to climb Everest, you know beforehand that you'll have to step over dead bodies. It's either do it or don't go on the climb. There's no way of bringing them down, too dangerous. I reckon all those making the climb realise that they may end up like one of those bodies and would gladly give consent to being stepped over if it comes to it. To a climber it must seem like a good resting place. I do think that the Nepalese should drastically reduce the number of climbing permits issued to cut down the log jams. The endless queuing is probably responsible for most of the deaths, especially inside the death zone.
  18. Surprised? Not even slightly. Feeling of deja vu, maybe. I think all long-stayers will feel the same.
  19. I won't say I told you so, but....... There's no way that the junta would've gone to all the trouble of installing a military general in the chair, rewriting the constitution etc, only to let an elected civilian take the reins. You could tell that this power grab by the military was different to all the others, this time they were determined to remain and played some very clever moves. If Pita still owns those shares then I still find it unbelievable that he led MF into the election. Didn't someone feel that they should tip him off to get rid of them even if he didn't realise it himself? I hope I'm wrong. We'll have to see what the CC come up with.
  20. Can't understand them being so daft as to hire a couple to transport the freezer. They got suspicious and contacted the police and I reckon that's what broke the case open.
  21. You may be lucky and she is genuine, but you'll still be expected to pay all the bills. If I were you though, I'd refuse the invite until you've known her for a lot longer.
  22. I think all will agree that it's diabolical the way the UK treats it's expat pensioners. Many of us ex servicemen and are still paying UK tax, which they of course don't demand a signed and witnessed life certificate for because the festering thieves take it from source.
  23. Strange that. I'm a foreigner and have been living in the Pattaya area for over sixteen years and I'm very happy and don't feel in any danger at all. In fact, during my time here I've read of farang going missing all over Thailand. This guy bought a large house just recently which I can see from my place. Hope they find him safe and well, but I fear the worst.
