  1. I think it's all to do with religion. If you believe in a supernatural being then it follows that you must believe in ghosts. After all, what else is a supernatural being? It follows that the stronger the belief in religion, the firmer the belief in ghosts.
  2. I had the same a couple of days ago, wouldn't log me in on chrome username and P/W. Tried my gmail details and that worked ok. Went back to Chrome login but entered phone number instead of email and it worked ok. Also use Shopee so no real problems.
  3. I once saw a guy that I knew get turfed away from Jomtien for wearing a "wifebeater" vest. He was a body building type and liked to show off his muscles. He cam back 15 minutes later in a white shirt which he bought up on Beach Rd. Don't know if they still have the same policy, but I too always wear longs and a smart shirt with collar. Doesn't hurt to do it once a year to get something from them that they have and I really want.
  4. I live very close to a temple and I can say that the only advantage is that it isn't too far to cart me when it's my turn to be sent up the chimney. I can't hear the chanting, which I wouldn't mind listening to, it's the high-powered hi-fi blasting out bass-heavy pop music that drives me mad every time there's a wedding , or some youth turns up for monk duty. Not to mention the dozens of vicious dogs which inhabit the place, which bark all night and are very threatening if you attempt to walk to the village. A place of peace and serenity it is not.
  5. Only two onto one?! "He is now under close medical supervision as he has suffered cerebral haemorrhage." For the Thai apologists, this guy didn't just get a thump for his cheek, he was beaten very severely and could have died.
  6. A quarter tab should be sufficient. Was for me anyway until my late 60s. Any more and it was like having a third leg. Buy a pill cutter to make chopping them up easier.
  7. Your byline takes me back to my second day in Pattaya, when I woke early morning in Pattaya slouched across an outside table. Fortunately, my wallet seemed to be intact and I managed to get a motorbike taxi to take me to my hotel. Good job I remembered its name because I couldn't have directed him. It seemed to be an awfully long way way though. After sixteen years of living here, I still have no idea of where I ended up.
  8. Yes, recommend Ban Chang, especially it's afternoon bar sessions. Bang Saen always looked fairly boring to me, however, never spent much time there and usually only went to visit daughter who was a university student and rented a flat there. That was several years back though.
  9. "Me, west coast near San Francisco. Liberal." We guessed.
  10. It's called dark humour. You were obviously never in the armed forces.
  11. Thais are great ones for shortcuts, they just can't resist them. Take the central reservation between lanes of a dual carriageway during roadworks. Anywhere that there's space to squeeze a bike between bollards becomes an unofficial track across to the other lane. Often followed by them riding against the flow of traffic. It's not as though going to the correct u-turn requires any legwork. Bless them.
  12. It's mainly women that go to Gambia, surely? The old fat ugly ones that play hard to get in the UK and cause us elderly hansum men to come to Thailand for the pretty pleasant easy to engage local women who think we're a good catch ????
  13. In time, we all return to the stardust from which everything is made, including the earth, so I'd like to return to it as quickly as possible. That is the moral answer, actually I wish to be disposed of as cheaply and with as little fuss as possible within the law. I guess it'll be up to my missus, so going up the temple chimney seems the likely method.
  14. 10% unless I'm not pleased with the service, or if there's a service charge.
  15. First 13 years. Second 17 years. This one 16 years (so far). You can't say I don't make the effort.
  16. My preferred mode of travel between Pattaya and Bangkok is car to Suvarnabhumi. Park up and take sky train into city. More expensive than big bus, but gives me more flexibility. On no account will I use a minibus or taxi.
  17. Yes, but it's often a white-knuckle ride. Taxis too. I refuse to travel in either on an inter city trip.
  18. I thought you were talking about peeing in the wee small hours.
  19. If something's running well, we tend not to comment. It's actually boring if you do. Bashing somewhere or something gets far more response. Being that most of us live here, it's obvious that Thailand is going to take a lot of bashing. Doesn't mean that we wouldn't rather live here than anywhere else. I tend to bash my own country of the UK far more, because I genuinely think it's going down the nick and I've no desire to live there ever again.
  20. Seems to be the case with the dragon lady on counter #6 Jomtien. She appears to get more awkward and miserable as the years go by. My missus hates her because she's as nasty to Thais as she is to farang. I think she just hates the world. Either that or she has a huge boil on her rectum. I know the job must be soul-destroying, but she could at least pretend to be pleasant. After all, without us applicants for visas, she'd probably be driving a buffalo on her parents farm, or shouting "Hello hansum man" outside some girly bar.
  21. More or less true. BB seem to be the only ones who mark your monthly deposit from abroad as "Intl Transfers". I think the 5500 baht is for taking out accident insurance for the privilege of them allowing you to open an account without the residence cert, which Jomtien refused to issue me with, They said they'll only issue one for a new driving license. Be careful though, after years of sending my money via BB, last month Wise sent it to SCB, which I also have an account with. Fortunately, I started using the 400k in the bank method a while back instead of the income method. Hope you can decypher that ????
  22. The missus and I walked along Jomtien Beach prom yesterday evening with friends and it was very crowded and noisy. All the noise was coming from pick-ups parked alongside the pavement blasting out bass-heavy "music". The occupants were sat across the pavement from their vehicles getting tanked up, dancing etc. All young Thais, male and female. We ate at a restaurant on Beach Road road, but it was difficult to hear yourself think. I used to live at a condo across from the beach, but moved out when I saw the writing on the wall some 14 years back. It was getting noisy even then, but nothing like it is now. The police could make a start by clamping down on all the pick-ups with the souped-up music systems, they aren't hard to find! I might add that all the farang were behaving themselves and had nothing to do with the noise production. Like Thais everywhere, even away from the beach areas, they just have no thought of playing music with the bass turned down.
  23. That's the woke post of the day. I hate people who throw the word "bigot" about to describe anyone who doesn't have the same opinion as them. If the police are having a problem with a particular group of people then they have the right to concentrate on them, like the Nigerians in Bangkok a few years back. It's common sense, not bigotry. Wish the coppers in the UK would do they same with some of our groups, but of course your friends back there would be up in arms.
