  1. I saw Filth recently on the plane having not too long ago reading the book. I did wonder how they would transfer that to film but thought they did quite a good job

In terms of TV, anyone seen 'Rectify'? It's a 6 episode 1st series, renewed for 10. About a guy that has been on death row for 19 years after the rape and murder of his 16 year old girlfriend. DNA evidence leads to his release and trying to assimilate back into the small southern town where he is from, the people that supported and doubted him and also there will be a new trial

    Slow but very watchable drama

  2. This has sort of become about visas but from the OP you seem to be asking can you just turn up or do you need a ticket out?

It never used to be a problem but it seems more of an issue these days to have that way out. I also agree that the issue seems to be more with your airline that Thai immigration.

You can take a chance. If they say anything just say you will do some traveling, you're heading to Malaysia and Indonesia and will get a ticket there. It's perfectly reasonable plan, I never used to have return tickets but think it's different

Everyone knows people travel around Thailand so you may get away with it. Ask the airline ahead of time, you don't want a ticket as you don't know where you will fly from and when, maybe Bali, maybe KL, etc. If they say you need one you can still chance it

Worst case they make you buy a cheap ticket at check in. Go online and buy cheapest ticket to Laos or Malaysia

Other than that, have a cheap Air Asia ticket already 'just in case', not too expensive

  3. The bad news for wanting more from these shows is it may require the actors to have more of a range ... that could be a problem. They're just pretty and stand there saying lines

The actual standard of acting is awful. I don't know how Thais can watch even the worst American shows and then look at these shows and not say 'damn, they are terrible'

Let's not forget that most Hollywood films are hardly breaking the mould when it comes to storylines though

  4. It really depends what kind of shopping

I think in places like London you get high end and also high street fashions, which are reasonably priced for the west and good quality

MBK is not too bad, chatuchak is a good place to visit regardless (weekends, of course) and Pratunam even if she can take the hustle bustle

  5. That's one thing that annoys me, airlines and their 'cheap' fares that when you add on tax is the same as market rate fares

I asked some airline people once, how come you advertise the fares without tax as there is never a chance I will pay without the tax. They said it's cause the tax can change.

Surely, it won't change during a freaking month-long promotion though, will it

  6. Some youngsters let their guard down on Koh Pha-Nganm, believe the 'anything goes' vibe is for reals and drop the common sense. Try to buy drugs openly or smoke openly and don't even think about set ups and being grassed up. Forget those buckets can hit you after a few and getting absolutely mullered

Generally speaking, if he has common sense and isn't an aggressive knob he'll be absolutely fine and fit in and have a great time

  7. When you can get in a taxi they are fine, not expensive, air-con. I'd never get a tuk-tuk but the whole not taking passengers thing is a joke. We have similar issues here in Dubai with traffic and taxis and you report them and they get fined. It's not even a farang thing, they openly don't take anyone.

I can get around the 'no meter' thing, that's not too much of a hassle, we used to have that here too, when you know the price of places it's perfectly fine but the refusing to take passengers is the one that really gets me crazy.gif.pagespeed.ce.dzDUUqYcHZ.gif

I don't know how taxis work in BKK, are they centralised or individually owned or rented by the driver so it is in fact HIS decision to take people? i.e. not much complaining that can be done. That is a bloody pain in the arse

I'll take BKK Subway and BTS over our new Metro here which has predictabily become a way to move the low paid workers around and it's not even that fast. Fridays (weekend) ... forget it so I'll take BKK anyday

I uses buses a fair bit but depends on the time of day

  8. Bukit Bintang is fine though. Busy strip or bars and good street food (Chinese/Thai)

I haven't been to Bangsar for a while, a lot of Malaysians were telling me they don't drink there anymore, it's not 'cool' and so on

Solaris Dutamas is superb. Publika is a big complex or bars and restaurants. I'd be amazed if you couldn't find something you liked in terms of food and drink up there. Probably have to get a cab. Maybe 15-20 MYR from KLCC area if not rush hour

Mid Valley Mall should have good food options. SoHo in Mont Kiara also. KL is a big fan of these big complexes with several bars and restaurants in them

I don't know particular restaurants to check out though. Street food is also good, the curry and rice a la Khao Gairng in Thailand is good, Malay/Chinese/Singapore/Indian mix for 4-7 MYR

  9. That's the thing

I don't want to doubt what the guy is saying but being disturbed at 2am does not usually result in a police report if you genuinelly mid-dialed. I know it's an inconvenience but all this talk of losing face and culture blink.png.pagespeed.ce.1yRKwuklr5.png

As if no one in the entire country has ever been called at an inconvenient time

I'd have answered one of those 50 additional calls after the accidental calling to apologise again and clear things up. It's just a mis-dial, after all ...

  10. I don't mind the spacing but I guess it would be possible to run 'fast trains' i.e. same speed but stop at x fewer stops

If people are made aware of this then they'll get that it only stops at certain places. We have a few year old Metro system here in Dubai and they have recently been running 'express trains' in the very early morning than run from one end to the other (where a lot of people work) and there are limited stops in the middle

I am sure something like that would be useful for evenings

If you are coming from quite far, even if it doesn't stop at your exact station you'll be a hell of a lot closer to where you want to go and can then get a taxi or walk or whatever

  11. Ah, I see

If that generally a successful way of doing things though? Do they not look at all your stamps and start questioning you or when re-applying for the new B visa they not ask why you don't hire more Thais or it's totally no problem and a choice as to how many Thais you hire vs convenience of visa renewals?

    * (I say this as I am not sure how difficult getting a B visa is)

This is the option with a missus but without a missus there's no chance? It's basically an under the radar thing or 2m baht + 4 staff? Advice on previous page focused on the guy and his missus and she doing things?

    Useful info, cheers

  12. SNIPPET

My main problem is that a foreigner in Thailand is not allowed to work without a work permit.

And the Thai private LTD conditions of minority and 4 Thai workers are not attractive for someone who wants to work flexible and as a 1 man company.

I agree with Simon, this is not correct , you only need one worker at 300 baht a day to qualify for a work permit. ( You do need 4 workers to qualify for yearly extensions on your B visa plus show an adequate income after 1 year, or is it 2? And probably some tea money. ) One worker only means you have to do a border stamp run every 90 days and a new visa run ever 15 months ( you get five, 90- day entries as long as you do the last re entry just before your B visa expires. )

Be wary of Thai consultants, they do not have you best interests at heart, in fact they have other Thai interests as priority- And bewre of Foreign consultants as they tend to be over priced , ignorant or crooks, or all three. Good luck it's tough world out there - you'll do well not to trust ANYONE, ever. And double check that accountant, too. Like piranhas, they all take a bite until nothing is left.

If you are American you can register a Thai Co Ltd.under Amity Treaty which allows you majority share - 19,998 out of 20 ,000shares. You need two Thai share holders ( 1 share each ) at first to register it, then you can switch to wholly American.

If you go under the radar, quite possible with an internet type business, you are subject to retribution and being turned in.

    Good info

To sum it up, you can obtain a work permit by setting up a company with your missus in which see is majority shareholder and hiring one worker is enough for that work permit? All it means is you won't get B visa? What kind of visa would you have with your work permit then? One that involves visa runs it seems but is that likely to arouse suspicion that you are coming/going so much or it won't cause you have a work permit?

  13. So I head to which train station when I get to bangkok?and that train will take me to surathani and then a bus to ferry port.can I purchase a ticket at bangkok that covers train, bus and ferry to samui?

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

    Ok

Go to Hualumphong Train Station in Bangkok, it's the big, main one

You can book the combo ticket there that will take you all the way to Samui, train, bus to pier and boat ...

Trains tend to leave in the early afternoon onwards, 6pm, 7pm at various speeds so quick that and also trains can sometimes get booked up, there's no guarantee you will get on the same day but of course it's possible

Bus from Southern Bus Station also will sell combo tickets but personally I prefer to go by train

  14. You can fly form BKK to Samui directly or fly to Surathani and take a Ferry from there.

The OP said that he has always flown in the past but this time wants to take a ferry from BKK close to the BKK airport

Yeah, wasn't sure about that too :D In the case of ferry from BKK to Samui I have no idea and probably nope

  15. You will be flying from BKK or going by Bus/Train?

You can book with Nok Air or Air Asia and they have BKK to Samui combo tickets, all linked up

Flight will be Surat or Nakorn Sri Thammarat, coach to pier and then ferry all included in the price

If you go yourself then just fly to Surat is probably easier but airport is quite a way from the pier but there is transport there outside.

It's maybe an hour or hour and half to the pier, it's generally it's all linked up. Flights are likely to be early morning and ferry will most likely be midday-ish

Pier to Samui is about an hour on ferry, I think on the fast ferry but there are a few ferry companies that leave at slightly different times and some are slower

Check Lomprayah site - http://www.lomprayah.com/ but honestly if you're flying just go with Nok Air or Air Asia and it's all linked up, much easier

Even if you get a bus or train from the station these days they also sell these combo tickets so don't bother doing it yourself, it'll probably work out more expensive and you'll be arsing about
