  1. As a long term retired resident in Pattaya, I would not set one foot in the place as they clearly discriminate against us!!

Current offer is 1999 Baht/night (tax and service excluded) or 4000 Baht for 2 nights tax and service included.

Note that this offer is only available for Thai's and foreign expats holding a work permit or having permanent residency. WP or Residency book to be shown on check in to qualify!

  2. Yes I agree, HP is a easy repair in general, so is Acer and Toshiba...I give up!! Some people just like to pick apart advice!

All electronics are more expensive in Thailand. You can purchase any electronic item, LCD TV, Computer etc, with a world wide guarantee, and especially for computers I.T. City a nationwide company will repair most name brands. Personally I would stay away from Dell. HP products seem to be about the best performing and long lasting.

  3. Well you basically answered my statement...Dell may be helpful but it had still to be sent away to be repaired,. It is nice to hear your positive comments, but the problem lies with the following facts...Dell Ram chips are smaller than other universal chips so you have to buy Dell chips which are not sold in TUC-com, likewise the hard drive is a special shape so universal replacements will not fit, and this goes with many common replacement parts, so good luck if you want to upgrade your Dell!

(For example; N.b. Acer warranty is world-wide)

As I said at outset I am not trying to criticise, I repair computers and understand the issues with direct sales Laptops not actively sold in computer shops etc.

Hi there...without trying to be criticising, there are a few facts to be aware of..

Firstly Dell are a pain to repair in Thailand or the UK, the reason is that as they are a direct sales firm, you end up having to return faulty computers to Dell. (

    <snip>

My first hand experience with having a Dell repaired in Thailand.

    1. A repair needed while under warranty. Dell Thailand were exceptionally helpful even though it was a model that is not available here and it has only US Warranty (one of the problems of buying from US). They sent out a technician to investigate the problem and gave me a report to send to Dell US so they would know exactly what needed fixing.

Unfortunately Dell US would not send the part to Thailand for them to repair so the machine had to go back to US, again hand carried by a mate, and returned in the same manner.

The customer support I received from Dell US was outstanding during my frequent contacts back and forth and my mate reported that the on site service of the repair was also excellent.

All in all a pleasant experince with Dell.

    2. An out of warranty repair. I just took the machine to Tukcom and one of the shops there was able to fix it no problem.

  4. Hi there...without trying to be criticising, there are a few facts to be aware of..

Firstly Dell are a pain to repair in Thailand or the UK, the reason is that as they are a direct sales firm, you end up having to return faulty computers to Dell.

Next, in general universal parts such as hard drives and ram processors will not fit in a Dell, so you have to buy brand name Ram etc from Dell, which are about 3 times more expensive.

Vat in the Uk is now 15% and you will not get a refund of that amount as all sellers of computers, ie Tescos, Currys, PC World use an export agent who takes 6% of the vat amount as a charge, so you end up with a maximum of 9% less service charge.

Finally you are right that most computers sold in Thailand have counterfeit programmes, but if loaded and maintained correctly work pretty much as good as originals. (Have you ever tried downloading Microsoft updates? (Even in the UK many people turn them off)

It really ends up to what the exchange rates are and what you want...for Example, an Acer Aspire Widescreen, Intel Pentium Processor T4200 with 4 gb DDR memory and 320 gb HDD and Virtual surround costs currently £399 in Tescos and that cannot be beaten in Thailand, but 18 months ago, it was in comparison far cheaper in Thailand.

Finally Windows (7) have already announced that there will be no free upgrades.

    Good luck :)

    ,

Buy a dell in the UK from about £300 and have peace mind.

    Put www1. before

    euro.dell.com/uk/en/home/laptops_great_deals/fs.aspx?refid=laptops_great_deals&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&redirect=1

or have a look on hotukdeals, com for special offers

  5. Renting a bike is really a waste of time in Pattaya, there are no good outlets.

You can buy a bike in Tescos or Carrefour for about 5-6000 baht but be warned...they are cheap chinese style imports..they look okay but fall apart....the pedals are plastic/ rubber and will snap off at the screw given any testing pressure, the wheel bearings will break up quickly, the gears are the cheapest possible and will lose selection after a few days...the list goes on.

If you really want a good semi mountain bike style then go down Theprasit Road (Jomtien) towards the sea and on the right hand side about half way down is a "real" mountain bike shop and they will sell you a reasonable quality bike for around 8000 baht upwards which you could sell on after your holiday...."trust me" I have been along this route of buying bikes. (14,000 Baht will buy you a 24 Gear bike, with adjustable front shockers and lightweight frame etc which is probably a good bike without rear suspension and disc brakes, a very good all round bike, which is what I have)

    Good Luck

    Hello,

I'd like to rent a bicycle (as opposed to a motorcycle) in Pattaya for a few weeks. It's just a better way to stay in shape and nicer way to get around, at least in my opinion.

So far, I've seen only one hotel (a-one hotel on Beach Road near soi 3...call it a-zero hotel) renting cheap 3000 baht worth bikes. The Hotel wanted 150 Baht / 3 hours + 100 U.S.$ deposit + my passeport. I told them they really didn't want to rent these bikes. Let's move on.

Anyone knows where I can rent for a longer period of time, like 1, 2 or 3 weeks?

    Thanks!

    Ryle

I think the easiest thing to do is go to Tesco or Big C, or even a specialist bike shop, and buy a new one. No worry about losing a deposit when you return it. Have someone ready to buy it cheap when you leave. Buy a cheap one at 1,000 Bt, that will be 50 Bt per day for three weeks use, plus a return if you sell it.

  6. Yuck, break open a capsule and smell it!!! :D

You would never take as a liquid!! I think someone is having you on??

The capsules are liquid which dissolves in your stomach! :)

    b

I have been told that we should take Fish oil in Liquid form now instead of as per Capsule form.

does anyone know where I can get it in liquid bottle form in Pattaya please.

  7. Actually only two models at Carrefour, cheapie at 4-5000 baht and a Panasonic overpriced at 12, 000 baht (This was last month on sale at Carrefour for 6500 baht! Same Model etc)

many model in carrefour but if you smoke inside the room the filter is full after a few days and filter are expensive
  8. Sorry but you are wrong...Pattaya International have CT and MRI Scan machines and Pattaya Memorial have one as well.. at Memorial they appear to be very proficient at analysing the results and charge 3000 baht for a Liver / Gall bladder MRI scan (done today) :)

An MRI scan of the knees in Bangkok Rayong hospital was around two-thirds the cost of the same scan in Bangkok Pattaya hospital. It's well worth looking around, try Queen Sirikit and also the Jap hospital in Sri Racha.

Their is only one MRI Machine in Pattaya, and that's at BPH. Queen Sirikit in Sattahip does not have MRI, or CT Scan. As stated before, the most reasonable price is Phyathai hospital in Sriracha.

Very good doctors, and staff. Ive been there. Contact Gavin Waddell, who is the international MGR at that hospital.

  9. I want to fly Bangkok - London return (end of August)...Any ideas of price and where to book and Airline would appreciated..I've looked on Internet but most "deals" are London - Bangkok return.

    Thanks :)

  10. I dont see why everyone thinks they have the right to knock the Thai Police all the time...are they worse than UK or USA or German police, err no I don't think so...have you seen the community Police officers in the UK? Are they any better than Thai noddy volunteers? (except Thai foreign, unfit, old volunteers look like fools, dressed like SWAT)

If the Officers in charge tell them to do a "check point" and check for helmets, then thats what they will do...don't get me wrong I agree they could do a lot of other more important "checks etc", but this is simply the same as other countries...too much crime and not enough Police.

Finally this is Thailand and why should we Foreigners expect our "standards applied" ??

    Have a good day :)

  11. Well to be honest, I find it impossible to beat Waynes, (Wholesale Meat Supplier) http://www.westernfoodasia.com/

not only is his meat tasty, but the prices are lower than other places...I look forward to trying Mr Moo's...but I am surprised to hear about fatty bacon etc after all the earlier good comments.

    Happy Days :)

  12. It takes by car about 4.5 hours or by (Tops) mini bus via Bangkok about 5.5 hours on a normal traffic day for 350 baht.

Having looked at the video, the boat looks like it could be top heavy in rough water, in fact it looks really like a boat not designed for deep sea? I sure hope I am wrong and look forward to seeing and trying out this journey? :)

The YouTube video poster states that a road journey from Pattaya to Hua Hin takes 9.5 hours. Is that true?
  13. Even Acer's are actually sent to Bangkok for repair, rather than Chonburi.

To be honest most Laptops dont go wrong often within warranty, more important is a reliable shop for fixing software issues (especially for beginners) Once out of warranty most repairs can be easily and cheaply effected. Acer is a good choice, I believe for value etc, although they actually work out cheaper now in the UK.

I buy for friends on average 8 laptops a year with no hardware issues to date. :)

    i

Hope this is ok, Ive also posted this in the computer section, but though I may also get some answers here,

My friend is looking at buying a new laptop computer, and is trying to find out which Brands of Computers

actually have a Service Centre situated in the Pattaya area... do you know of any ...?

    Thanks

    TL

I know Accer has office in Chonburi. I think it's the nearest one.

  14. Wow!!! Finally someone who understands why this "FLU" could become dangerous and the need for health measures to be taken.

BTW, the current virus is indeed mild most people are not in mortal danger from it. However, it is a good public health measure to try to limit its spread. That gives scientists and governments more time to deal with the next waves after mutation, which may be more lethal.

  15. I belive there are many places along 3rd road (and Sukhumvit) that will recover seats etc, I would think they could match the existing style?

    Good luck :)

I am the proud owner of a wonderful 18 year old Honda Dream (98cc model). I need to replace the seat as it is now very tatty. I have tried many motorbike shops, but they don't stock such ancient seats. Does anyone know where I could find a seat or get my existing one repaired?
  16. The easy way is to get on a bus direct to Trat, 7.45am (4-5 hours) and others throughout the day from Sukhumvit Road, (About 180 Baht) (not North Bus Terminal) ...once at Trat NEW bus terminal (note they do no longer drop off in Trat town) there are air con mini buses to Koh Chang ferry (110 Baht)...the ferries are never full this time of the year...I did this trip 3 weeks ago.

    Best

    Paul

  17. Well to honest, I have read the rules In Bangkok main Office in Thai and they have always insisted on a non tourist visa, but having received negative comments in the past that I am wrong and that you can get a licence on a tourist visa I gave up mentioning this fact. It seems you have been caught up with them enforcing the rules!

I would suggest you go to the shop you are purchasing the bike from...they should be able to get a licence for you...or go to one of the Visa shops they can also usually get the licence for a price.

To suggest to drive without a licence is okay for some, until you have an accident and find you are not insured!!

Also if you get stopped at a check point for a licence check, you are likely to not get the bike back until you have shown a licence and paid the nominal fine?

Failing that and contact me and I can tell you where to go to have licence arranged, legally.

    pyear iddbaw

    Only idea I have is:

a)contact my embassy and ask for assistance.

b)contact a lawyer and ask his assistance.

Or of course you could always take the test as they have requested! :)
