My mother visited me in Pattaya once about 40 years ago. Total disaster. I can't see how anything has changed. If anything probably a whole lot worse.

Just take away their wheels. Teenagers hate walking. Parents who let their kids ride around with no licenses , no insurance , helmets etc should have the bikes confiscated and sold off. Alternatively , the police could do some policing. How radical would that be.

Pretty ironic that those who overthrew Thaksin will now apparently acquiesce to his return as he now seems like the lesser of two evils. As for the scenario of Prawit somehow getting into bed with Paetongtarn ...... mucho gross scenario. Any way you look at it , the electorate are going to get peed upon from a great height. Thailand must be one of the few countries where winning popular support from the people in an election more or less guarentees you will not get to govern or have much say in things. In addition , it sends a red flag to the conservatives that here is a party that needs to be suppressed by the courts.

Visiting the UK and using buses query
Denim replied to Denim's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Thanks for the info. I was not so much concerned about the cost ( although cheap is better ) , it was avoiding the unseemly scrum at the Oyster dispensing machines in the underground. I've got UK bank cards so now I'm ok to use them. It's strange to feel like a tourist in the land of your birth but that's the fact of it. Reverse culture shock. -

Visiting the UK and using buses query

I take it you can use a debit card as well as a credit card ? Thanks for answering. Saves a big hassle. -
I'll be visiting the UK for a couple of months soon. It used to be the case that London Transport buses around Heathrow airport perimeter were free. However I have only just discovered that this is no longer the case and that you need to have an Oyster card. ( only available from the underground station not the bus station ). I had to use the automated machines there about 7 or 8 years ago and as there were a lot of flights arriving at that time ( 7.30 pm) there was an ugly and confused scrum of some 60 odd people trying to fathom out which ticket to get. They would likely still be there now had not a member of the underground staff come out and started getting everybody their ticket. So , to avoid this I was wondering can I use a local bus just using my UK debit card which has the contactless symbol on it as shown below. Sorry if this sounds like Rip Van Winkle asking but if you don't live in the UK and seldom visit then things change that you are not aware of. Thanks in advance

I am more open minded. Not commited either way. To assume that in the unbelievable vastness of the cosmos there are not other planets capable of having intelligent life is , frankly absurd . In mathematics , the laws of probability cannot so easily be dismissed.. Scientists believe there must be other intelligent beings out there. The stick in the mud is the distances involved. Our current human understanding is that nothing is faster than the speed of light and if this is correct , any other intelligent life forms out there can never hope to traverse the vastness of the universe and ogle us with their superior technology since even at this speed , it takes to long. But there are good scientific cases being put forward that something faster than the speed of light is possible . It would take me too long to provide all the links but if anyone is seriously interested in this ....google is your friend. Consider this also....the world was once thought to be flat , and that the planets orbited the earth. Other views were heretical. Even today there are those that sincerly beleve the world is flat and that the masses have been duped into believing otherwise.

UFOS are an indisputable fact. Doesn't mean they are of alien origin. It means people saw unidentified flying objects.

A few nights in and around Kanchanaburi then drive town to Cha Am intime for the midweek market. Plenty of good food and very lively. Also excellent seafood near the pier.

Hopefully , until the current crop of senators reach the end of their tenure next year. Then take a vote for PM without their blocking interference.

Like the women who turned up at the hospital with a vibrator stuck in her bottom. Doctor asked if she wanted it removed ? No, just change the batteries please.- 102 replies
