Lincoln famously said : ".If I could save the union without freeing any slaves I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that ” Yet before he was elected , it was known that a probable consequence of his victory would be the succession of South Carolina and other states . https://www.ushistory.org/us/32e.asp

Chinese businessman Tuhao’s Thai wife and business partner arrested
Denim replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Thai names often have other meanings in English also. Turdsack and Titiporn spring to mind. Titiporn apparently means ' flame of the forest flower ' in Thai but something else in English. Best not delve too deep into Turdsack. -

Wait wait. Just hold it right there. The police have just been given instructions not to name the countries of foreign miscreants. So readers just please mentally put a line through the first word of the topic. -

Least said , soonest mended. Walk on , walk on , with a mince in your step , and you'll never walk alone. You'll never walk alone. Not in Pattaya anyway. -
Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
Denim replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
Another very interesting account from a British soldier ( medic ) in Ukraine. Very experienced this one. Married to a Ukrainian , apartment in Bucha ( site of atrocities ) served in Ukrainian marines and was in Mariupol for a time. His account of the early days of the invasion puts you right in the picture. -

In my local market not all vendors sell at the same price. So....the thing to do is find the cheapest with good selection , good quality then buy exclusively from that vendor.

But he still has the main key otherwise wouldn't have mentioned key cutting shop. ????

I walked out of the grammar school gates and went straight into early retirement. I don't think I missed much.

Unfortunately , at 200 a year , the message will be all too clear to prospective immigrants crossing the channel. Just another acceptable risk among many they have already taken. The Rwanda scheme is just a daft idea from the get go. A boat that won't float. Even my idea of the government buying a decommissioned cruise ship ( can accommodate 2000 + people in cabins with own facilities ) and taking people from rafts straight to the ship anchored off shore is not as bad. Not even necessary to set a foot on shore. Asylum applications dealt with on the ship by immigration officers. Only those accepted can land on shore. Genuine cases separated from economic migrants. Considering how much money the government is wasting on hotels ( causing some unemployment ) at least the ship still has its original scrap value if things don't work out.

Are Thai solar panels any good for home use in LOS?
Denim replied to Scouse123's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Don't have expensive Solar panel set up to run all appliances but do have solar lights in every room so if there is a power cut we have full lighting. We cook with gas and have our smartphones so no power now just means no air con , small inconvenience. Cost was a couple of thousand baht. -
Apparently , they moved his birthday to December to ' smother ' pagan celebrations of Saturnalia and the winter solstice , filching many of the associated customs for good measure. https://www.history.com/topics/ancient-rome/saturnalia#:~:text=Saturnalia%2C held in mid-December,%2C feasting and gift-giving. Just as the first churches in Britain took over pagan sites of worship. It was the same with Islam. Mohamed took all the pagan customs and rolled them all into his new religion. Great salesman he was. They bought it.

40 former and active MPs from various parties join Bhumjaithai
Denim replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The usual pre election sphincter polishing in full swing , nothing new. From other news it already seems clear that Bhumjaithai have been selected as the next government and will be shoe horned into office regardless of any incidental voting. What is needed is a law requiring anyone who leaves a party to be barred from political office for 4 or 5 years.
