  1. I would imagine the question mentioned concern about restaurants reopening and this has been lost in the reporting. What does look a bit odd is the fact that the numbers add up to 100%. There's usually a fair proportion of don't knows with this sort of question.
  2. A fair point although I suspect most of the people complaining about the ban on alcohol and the results of this survey are probably people who like to drink alcohol and possibly pretty committed to it. From what I've seen reported in the UK the problem isn't actually alcohol but the fact that some people consume enough to make them a bit lax in their precautions regarding Covid. Sensible drinking is fine.
  3. I've had problems with Chrome on a couple of sites although I can't remember what but I think it was around online payment. I had to use Edge instead. I saw something this morning about issues with uploading docs and the ways to deal with it. One was the file formats which seems stupid to say the least. The other was not being able to upload hotel receipt files with multiple pages. The advice was to see if one page would give all the information but if not book a hotel that gives a one page receipt. Doesn't strike me as that professional to be honest. Fortunately I don't need to apply just yet so maybe things will get better.
  4. That's not always true but from what I've heard it's what generally happens so maybe this is sort of good news
  5. A nice idea and worth trying but I'm not sure if it would help. There's no cost involved in putting on a seatbelt or the helmet that's in the basket on your bike or hanging off the handlebars but they still won't do it. If it were done in conjunction with legislation and enforcement then perhaps it would make a difference but I don't think I need to point out the problems with that idea.
  6. I hadn't noticed that. My guess is that the plural isn't that important and is basically part of the requirements when you come as a tourist as they always want to know where you're staying. However it's never easy to know for sure
  7. The term 'global warming' was coined by an American scientist I think. Unfortunately that just gave the tabloid newspapers the opportunity to print stories and made up pictures of people sunbathing in places like Hull, Grimsby and other places they normally think of as wet and cold. That's in the UK and I imagine other countries had something similar. This distracted from the fact that although the Earth is warming it disrupts and changes the climate in various ways hence 'climate change'. As an example if the Gulf Stream is affected then that will reduce the temperature in the UK. I don't know if climate change is responsible for any changes in the cool season in Thailand although it is possible. It's a very complex subject.
  8. 7. Have negative test results before travelling domestically without quarantine. Will the test you have when you arrive count for that? If not it looks like you'll have to wait another day for a second test.
  9. I'd already decided to spend Christmas in the UK and then fly out probably before new year but I need to go to hospital so that backs up my plan. Others like you have other circumstances you need to deal with in the best way you can. Good Luck
  10. You're right and that's really the point I was making. You can make all the rules you want but it often seems they aren't enforced so you end up in the same situation as you would without the rules in the first place.
  11. I think you're right but I'm not sure that Thais are as interested in actual Buddhism as they are in monks and temples. When I first started coming to Thailand I bought a book on Theravada Buddhism so that I could better understand it. It was a bit like reading a London tourist guide book in New York. Very interesting but totally irrelevant to the current situation. I read all about the 5 precepts and noticed that many Thais seemed to have confused them with a to do list. The best way to stop a Thai talking to you is ask difficult questions about Buddhism. How do you eat meat without killing or harming it? What about drunken driving which goes against two precepts? If monks can't touch a woman or an object at the same time as a women since that may distract them from their focus on Buddha maybe they aren't that committed and what if they are gay? There's loads of them. Buddhism has changed anyway. Did monks hundreds of years ago have electric amplification even when praying in a house? Did they play loud music to disturb people over a large area?
  12. I'm not going to Thailand on holiday as I live there so I don't know what difference this will make to tourists but things can change so quickly and announcements are made by all sorts of officials which are then contradicted. You mention lax implimentation of rules so even if there are rules stopping crowded bars and nightclubs and I've no idea how they will word those rules, will they be implimented? If it's as rigorous as other rules such as wearing a helmet on a bike I doubt anyone will notice.
  13. I live in Mahasarakham with my wife so neither of us recognise this but hopefully someone else will. I sent the picture to my wife as I'm still in the UK now and she said that looking at the sign on the building it's a local office in Mukdahan but she can't read which one. I think she said it was probably a Tambon office so that might be a place to start looking. I don't know how many there are. If someone comes on with the answer it will save a lot of time. Edit: I assume there was no location data on the file since it was so long ago.
  14. I'm not sure we need to hear about your sexual preferences. Not that I don't agree, just don't tell my wife. ????
  15. That's true but it reduces the risk and severity. Nothing is ever going to be 100%.
  16. I don't know the figures but considering the difference in population you would be better with per 100,000 or per 1,000,000 numbers. There may be other considerations I suppose.
  17. It would be more understandable if this virus was on the level of ebola, but it is not. Whilst not an expert I think that depends on how you look at it. It's true Ebola has a much higher mortality rate than Covid but that's not the whole story. Covid has a much higher rate of transmissibility so even with a lower chance of death or serious illness it can kill more people. It's a numbers game. Here's a pretty good explanation. https://www.forbes.com/sites/coronavirusfrontlines/2020/07/31/why-is-covid-19-more-deadly-than-ebola-an-infectious-disease-doctor-explains/ As time goes on we will hopefully see new treatments that will help us deal with Covid and possibly without vaccines but there are several diseases that have been wiped out or at least greatly reduced with vaccines. The current measures are there because this is an urgent situation so needs urgent solutions. Less urgent solutions will take longer. Whilst stopping debate isn't good a lot of the push back against vaccines can cause deaths with misinformation so it's at least understandable that there's a desire to stop that happening.
  18. Well at least erectile dysfunction isn't a problem then according to your 'conversations' with Thai girls.
  19. As a resident of Mahasarakham (at least when I can get back there) I often visit Khon Kaen with my wife. I'm not really up to date with the flood situation although I've seen some reports on here but they tend to focus on Bangkok and significant cultural sites. I'll try to remember to ask my wife what she knows when I speak to her later. Here's hoping things aren't too bad where you are.
  20. When you go back you will remember to let us know the answer the question that's on all our minds won't you. Was she there waiting for you or had she left for an urgent holiday? Possibly to Thailand now it's not on the red list.
  21. That's right but it will need to be certain vaccines. Oxford/AstraZeneca Pfizer BioNTech Moderna Janssen A bit of a pain if you've had something else. It would stop my wife coming over as she had Sinovac. Fortunately we weren't planning that.
