From the news report, it seemed that the BIB from Phuket was not involved in the raid.  Only Phang Nga Town Police, Phang Nga Provincial Police and Region 8 Police conducted the raid.

    Well that's interesting.

The Phuket police is fuming now, a good little money earner gone down the drain.

Perhaps they will even face an independent investigation and people will be moved to inactive posts as usually.

2: Yes wait a few seconds.

3: Only when the stop is unusual long, even with the fan on, oil temp can go up to 104 deg.C but full synthetic oil is designed for those temps.

Are there any tourists in ChiangMai now?

You can't leave the province mate, if you do it's 14 days quarantine at your destination, or I should say; the next province you enter.

So if you ride up there from Chon Buri, you will cross how many provinces?

If we say 5 (only guessing) it will take you roughly 10 weeks to get up there????

It's what you get with an engine tuned for down low torque only. Max torque is at 3000 RPM! That's very low. It's not an engine I'd like to own but I guess for the Indian market it can make sense. One has to view it like a cruiser engine - just a <deleted>ty version haha. It's actually pretty much the same cc to max torque ratio as you'd find in a Harley.

The step up from the Honda 500 range to 650 as you found is quite significant. The CB650R has pretty much double the power of a CB500F! I'd count the 500s as a beginner range. Very docile. Also very dependable. I have mine now since 2013 I think? Never a single issue and fires right up. And also with the 50HP I can have some good fun.

I get that, so it must be targeting the Indian market only.

They should make another version with 30-35hp, could be fun.

Some people are happy with less than 50hp and if you live in an area with a lot of twisties I fully understand. A good rider on a small bike can easily embarrass a not so skilled rider on a much more powerful bike in the mountains where skill is more important than raw power.

I reckon by 2022 there will be electric cars which are acceptable to me, better range up to 500km below B1,500,000 in Thailand. The MG ZS doesn’t  make it, ok for city driving. I don’t see charging stations as a big issue as every house has a power point for overnight charging. Long trips will require planning.

I was interested in the MG HS PHEV but it seems underpowered with the 1.5l motor, even if you add the electric motors power which is finite. I’m hoping that we can get some of the Chinese built EV’s here and Thai  tariffs are not applied?

It's over 250hp combined and 0-100 in 7.5 sec on the HS PHEV, I wouldn't call that under powered in that price range?

Yes, of course, need lower gear for normal riding..., but I have seen that's what they do on test reviews to find torque power and differences on various bikes...

Honda is usually good with their road bike engines in this regard as they tune for good low-end torque and not very high rpm design , their 500cc and 700/750cc twins etc. ...

Incidentally I saw they did a similar torque test on their new single 350 Highness, it almost stalled...!, but that has a very low torque and power for the size of the bike...

That new Honda 350 lowness is a bloody joke, 21hp!!!!! The new Forza350 can run in circles around it.

The old CB350 (made 1968 to 1973) had 36hp, okay a twin but still, <deleted>!

I was hoping to get some actuall usefull info on the Himalaya here but it seems the thread morphed into mostly a discussion of the interceptor. I have been in the market for a Himalaya for the past few months, watched tons of reviews in youtub and have noted the general drawbacks, underpowered , low highway speed,  bit heavy, clunky gear box. OK I can live with all that cause I want for versitile on off road riding. Also honestly love the look and style of it. I went to test drive one though was completely turned off, granted not a very extensive test ride as the owner wouldnt let me out of the parking lot with it but it vibrated all over the front end, the engine sounded like it was laboring even at low speeds, and it stalled while at idle three times, for the owner not me. This is a 2020 with only 3k on it. It also just felt cheaply made. The rear light for instance seemed like I could just rip it off in my hand with little effort. Any owners out there that can comment on my observations would be great - cause I still kind of want one!

In Pattaya they have test bikes at the RE dealer, I saw the Himalayan there as well.

You can take the test bikes out for a 30 min ride after signing a waiver that you will pay 15k in case of crash and damage exceed that amount, insurance will take care of the rest. You obviously need to have a bike license and wear proper gear.

I am not interested in the Himalayan myself but tried the Interceptor, lovely bike.

Has anyone asked what will happen to oil when the world goes EV. If I'm not mistake refining a barrel of oil yields about 70 - 80% fuel. Before the invention of the automobile gasoline was poured into rivers as waste in the USA. If we take away the need for gasoline and diesel how will we dispose of them? Can't dump them into the rivers anymore.

If oil companies can't sell 70-80% of the refined product they will go out of business along with oil producers. We still need oil to make just about everything.

Can we use plant based oils like palm to replace the petrochemical products from crude oil? Hemp to replace polyester fibers? Maybe but look what happened to virgin forests of Indonesia and Malaysia when the palm oil boom started. Millions of acres burned along with the endangered animals that lived in them. Orangutans fleeing the forest were killed by villagers. Considering most of us on the website live in Thailand we remember the smoke from Indonesia from burning those forest. The EU finally ban palm oil as bio fuel because of it.

So if oil refiners stop refining crude oil where will the alternative come from?

Corn can make plastics I use them almost daily but again when corn was used to make alcohol thousands of Mexicans went hungry and again forests were converted to farmland. The Amazon is already in trouble it will likely be wiped out to grow Green Alternatives.

This whole green movement to EV reminds me of when I was a boy and environmentalists convinced the world that paper shopping bags were hazardous and glass milk bottles used too much energy/chemicals to clean. The miracle fix was plastics look how well that turned out.

For me the idea of using electric power to propel cars is the local pollution, imagine if +90% of all the vehicles on the road was not polluting direct from exhaust smoke! That would make the cities much much better places to stay.

Sure those EV's need to be charged using power from somewhere. A poster here on the MG tread says he have solar cells on his house and can therefore charge his car for free during the day without polluting, pretty cool eh.

We have to stop using coal/oil for generating power in the big power stations.

Nuclear power is one way of doing it, I believe France have been doing it for many years, new technologies are being devolved.

Sun and wind can also made a lot of energy and stored, used when needed.

electrics next to gasoline a recipe for disaster, as they would attempt to fill your tank and charge your battery at the same time here.

But they will off course be placed far away from the gasoline filling stations??

If my understanding of electrics is right that requires one hell of a wattage being imparted. No doubt I'll be told I'm wrong.

I don't understand imparted? You mean wattage when charged in 10 min? Yes it will demand a lot of power for sure, not something you can do with a normal 220V connection at your house.

If the government are serious about EV's then all gasoline stations should have charging stations so when those solid state batteries are here, you can go and get a cup of coffee and your car is ready to go when finished drinking it.

By the way; the is an article in a certain news paper (we are not allowed to quote this new paper) today about EV's, very interesting.

EV's & hybrids are the new norm despite all the negative posts here.

I am considering getting a plug-in hybrid myself at some stage, perfect for the daily 2 schools runs, using no gasoline but still have the engine when doing long trips.

Was just thinking about the odd few times I ran out of petrol, got hold of a can and walked the petrol station, annoying but soon back on my way.

Now if it were an electric car, it would be a nightmare situation to run out of electric...????

Well where there is a will there is a way:

you know what has excellent return on investment ?  all the things people go to jail for , unless you wear that brown uniform

    Oh ho

No far from being a billionaire but I get by.

Thanks for the tip about doing things you can go to jail for but I pass, thanks.

This topic is about bitcoin versus gold so I don't see the point in starting listing my stock holdings.

Since I am holding long in my stock I would be delighted if others buy the same stocks as I own.

Taking profits of 128% can never be bad. Btc has gained approximately 200% every year for the last 10 years.

I recently started using etoro, I don't like it and crypto assets can't be taken out/sent to another exchange, only exchanged for fiat. I believe Paypal is an easy way to buy certain cryptos but again they can't be sent anywhere, yet.

    Yes agreed, 128% is great.

Well eToro is a somewhat odd fish and I solely use it for crypto, I use Saxo bank in Singapore for stock trading.

I plan to just leave my crypto holdings in eToro as see how they end up in say 3-5 years time.

Okay in my crypto portfolio (one holding) I have set a traling stop loss but it's very high due to large volatility in crypto.

My EOS.X don't have any because of a modest 250$ investment so they can go to hell or the sky, I take the last, LOL

As I mentioned before I am not investing more money in crypto but are off-course happy with the fat profit and I just let it run from here on.

so what you invest in, I guess you will never share that with TV

No not really, but I made some good money in bio tech stocks. They are quite risky so you have to do a lot of research.

I think "green" stocks and ETF's are something to look for here in 2021.

  15. In Denmark the government is pushing hard for hybrid/electric cars by keeping the yearly road/environmental taxes low on those and raise it a lot on engine alone driven cars, so now everybody is buying hybrid cars.

Toyota and others are developing a solid state battery that can be charged extremely fast, they hope to launch a car with this type of battery in the early 2020s, can be charged from zero to full in 10 min!!

Nonsense, I got 300k  off a  Chevrolet the second time and 100k  off  one the first  time before they decided to quit  Thailand, Also I see  Ford  discount too

Yes but that that hardly counts as Chevrolet has packed up shop and left and they wanted to clear stock quickly!

As a side note, the old Chevrolet showroom/workshop in Pattaya have been taken over by Ford, the one on Sukhumvit near north Pattaya road.

A Volvo dealership will be opening in Pattaya this year. That's what a Bangkok dealer told me when I was looking at the S60 T8.

I visited the Volvo stand at the motor-show and they told me that they will open a dealership in Chonburi, not in Pattaya but I hope that you are right, I am also interested in the S60 T8, what a car.

All Volvo cars are limited to 180 km/h from 2021 which is a bummer! Okay I seldom wants to go that fast but the boy in me don't like it.

I would like to get vaccinated as soon as possible, I will go a visit some private hospitals next week in Pattaya and ask questions.

Quote from the article: Private hospitals in the Kingdom will also be given permission to buy their own vaccine supplies, provided the vaccine has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration of Thailand.
