  1. I imagine the meeting of the airport officials before the changes went a bit like this Lower level official: "Ok, we can expect a lot more arrivals in the next few days. So should we revamp our system to reflect this?" "Boss: No, its just tourists, they will be so overjoyed at being able to come to the best place on earth that they wont care about confusion and long waits..." "Ok Boss"
  2. equal law enforcement irrespective of the socioeconomic status of the perp would have been a better gift. or maybe just telling the cops to stop doing crimes themselves would be a big improvement for the people
  3. of all the issues facing thailand, increasing the use of EVs is very far down the list. EVs are a first world virtue signaling luxury
  4. If she had only been running a gambling den or a drug ring, driven over a cop and killed him, or made millions over extravagant lampposts, all would be well
  5. What is so special about her? I have met plenty of pretty thai girls who "took up the whistle"
  6. they probably didn't interfere because they were afraid of being sued to defamation for damaging his reputation by suggesting that he was murdering his ex GF. the truth not being a defense for defamation here and all that....
  7. I would focus on how good a life you have. And that his will probably be peaking in a few years and then its a life as a taxi driver or less
  8. her "princess" status largely derives from the fact that because thaliand is so meaningless to the rest of the world that anything or anyone thai that gets the least bit of international notoriety is seen as confirming the thai idea that thailand is the center of the universe.
  9. I think a better first step would be to focus on learning while in school strategies
  10. if that was the standard applied here, the forums would be decimated
  11. it is a mystery because you are viewing it through the lens of what would be best for the population. however, the social programs that you advocate do not have nearly the potential for kickbacks, brown envelopes et al. that military hardware acquisitions do, which is the lens through which the government leaders view it. the baht must flow...
  12. “The government should take a clear stance to show that we disagree with the use of military hostility against other countries" yes, that hostility is reserved for use against the thai people
  13. Thailand ultimately escaped colonialism because the two powers decided that they would rather have a buffer country between their colonized countries to avoid having a direct border that conflicts could occur across, rather than anything thailand did diplomatically. Ukraine was serving as that buffer region between nato and russia and the increasing likelihood of it no longer serving that purpose has a lot to do with the invasion we are seeing now
  14. what he is saying is that "we arent really sure who will come out on top in this conflict, so we wont choose a side until we know we will be backing the winner"
  15. they should just say what the real problem is. without any tourism for 2 years, the cash flow from the farmers' daughters "working" in bangkok, pattaya, and phuket has dried up. I'll bet that the number of girls getting married to a foreign guy and getting the family access to his wallet has dropped precipitously as well. without this additional money flowing in, the farmers cant make it just on the money from the rice sales.
  16. wow, a hotel booking site, an overpriced one at that, has done some stuff to make a location more appealing for people to book hotels at. I guess that is considered thai-style altruism
  17. that is because for the lie detector to work, the subject has to have a physiologic response to when they are lying that is different from when they are not. Thais lie so easily and shamelessly that there is no difference in how their body reacts.
  18. ah, the three seasons of thailand; hot, hotter, and OMG its fxxking hot.
  19. calling for ukraine to not get into nato or try to get nukes, which would be right on russia's border, would go a lot further in keeping russia from wanting to invade and set up a puppet government who wont do that might be more effective.
  20. In bkk, i commonly see thais upon entering an elevator to go directly into the corner with their face pressed up against the wall, or refuse to get into one that has 2-3 people in it already. wearing multiple masks are commonplace on the street and at my job.
  21. Ah, thailand, the new hub of standards and responibility.
