Good luck. The place is heaving with miserable, hard-drinking Russians nowadays
No it's not.
I live here and 80% of the tourists are Russian.
So do I and your figure seems to me a bit high, maybe i just dont go to the same places as these cheap charlie vodka swilling russians others are talking about. But then again when there are so many places that are not over-run by them why would I?
I'm not saying they are not here, just that there are many places they are not.

Or search 'moving truck' on the pattaya forum, there is a name and number of someone there that can help you in that thread.

Post your pcx via the post office, rent a vehicle that you can drop off at a different location ie through avis or similar and off you go
-
Car rental is also available on the island, far safer, especially for songkran.

Yes its possible, almost everywhere. If you are not used to motorbikes be very very carefull. Many accidents on a daily basis most caused by inexperienced riders.

I would book. It does get busy, you would probably find something but it may not be in your ideal place or budget, depends on what you are looking for though!

If you think the boat taxi guys are the scum of Thailand, I dont think you have seen much of Thailand.

A 10ft shipping container is really pretty small in the world of shipping containers, maybe companies around the big container ports may have them, but 10ft is really just a big box. A lot depends on what you need it f or, maybe more details could get you some more ideas.

I dont think you are making yourself clear to the police, what you need to do is shout a bit louder to them, maybe wave your arms around a bit too, do all of this whilst telling them how they should do their job and then come back and tell us how it all worked out. Alternatively, quietly offer them a finding fee and any information you have as to who has your phone. The finding fee is the key.

It's all about location, location, location. Oh hang on a minute, that doesn't make much sense either.

I tried the newish seafood restaurant in Bangrak the other day, called Daetong Seafood, close to the ghost road entrance. Very nice, good setting on the beach, friendly attentative ( but not overly) staff and was verry happy with all the seafood. Prices all very reasonable too.
Then for a different evening out went to Bubba's in Chaweng. Overall very disapointing, wont be going back there again.

horses for courses that market covers a small percentage of tourist, I personally like a beach road to drive around and sea the beach and ocean. beach roads are not exactly that busy. But if you pay 2-3-4 k per night in a hotel yes maybe every day coming out hotel onto beach is good but would also be nice to drive around and island and see the beach and sea.Samui is one of the few places that have allowed building on the beach side of the beach road. Phuket Jontiem, Pattaya Songkla Cha Am ban Saray etc etc do not allow it. Most other resorts has a beach road where you can see the beach and ocean, Samui does not have this unfortunately.
True, on the other hand, Samui is thus one of the few places where one can actually stay in a beach resort and be on the beach while stepping out of your bungalow, unlike the other places mentioned where you first have to cross a busy road... From a tourist point of view, I'd know what I'd choose.
Personally if i was to sit on a beach i would rather have one that i didnt have to listen to the rumble of passing traffic or the onstant tooting of taxi horns trying to pick up a fare. I've always considerd beaches to be places to go to to relax or have fun, not to drive past. Still many places on Samui you can see the sea and the beach from the road and even a couple of viewpoints where you can stop to admire it all from the drivers seat. As you say horses for courses!

Very sad story. Rip tides and currents are invisible killers, what looks like a nice swimming location can be very dangerous.
R.I.P.
You're so right, there would not have been 2 meter waves on Chaweng beach, its the invisable rip currents that catch people out year after year. Very sad. Unfortunately i doubt the chaweng hotels will warn customers of the risks and there is no local council / government departments that would risk their personal positin by saying there could be a possible danger to tourists, unlike other more responsible authorities in thailands tourist regions.
They have flagged red since Christmas.
Putting a few red flags in the sand doesnt really equate to warning tourists of the dangers. You know what it means, as do I, but we live here, we are aware of our surroundings, some visitors to our shores are clearly not.

If only there was a tradition in Thailand for a higher degree of responsibility, then perhaps someone at the resort would have ensured that they would have been told it was a bad idea to go swimming under those conditions... People from Switzerland are not exactly the most ocean saavy in the world given their geographic position, so its feasible to imagine that they had no idea what they were up against.
Im just asking, where were the lifeguards ?
I agree, but the couple should've known better than entering the water when there's 2 meter tall waves coming in, especially at their age. Nonetheless R.I.P.
There were not 2 meter waves on the beach. Do you know what a 2 meter wave looks like?

There is a driving range at the Lamai end of Soi 1 coming from Maenam (or turn at Mini Mart near Buddies complex at Lamai end) perhaps a kilometer from the main ring road.
There are three golf courses, one in Lamai, only seen pictures, but views look nice..... not sure how to find!
One in Chawang/ Bophut area, up the road near the Open Market (not very well kept)..... any one know the name of that road?
Then there is SantiBuri Golf course, in Maenam, off Soi 7 I think, toward Ban Tai, more in the "professional league" both in greens fees and up keep.
Not sure of the name of that road, but locally known as monkey theatre road which is in itself confusing as the monkey theatre is now on the same road as the closed downd driving range. Think the golf course is called Bophut Hills possibly 9 x par 3's but sure some golf people can confirm or correct. I did hear that a new driving range was under construction possibly somewhere near the makro tesco bigc area of the ring road but not being a golfer i am not sure of the details.

Tropicalevo
I trust only referenced statements from Wikipedia. In this case there is also info about first aid on other sites.
And also many references on other sites that do not agree with you. It does not make you wrong, but does also not make you right, there is an awfull lot of conflicting information about this in all area of the media.

Lamai area is probably what you are after. Several muaythai gyms, good nightlife (apparantly) and more folks of your age group out and about compard to maenam or bangrak. As for actual hotels, tripadvisor or agoda will help you there then maybe come back here to ask for merits of your short list!

Probably nowhere will acept that, may just have to buy a new one

I think you will find that the driving range behind bandon hospital (near big c) has now closed.

Great idea, hope they have one that goes to the top of our ski slope, also one that goes all the way across the bridge to the mainland would be nice.

Posted
Trat flights to Bangkok only. U-Tapao goes to Samui. No ferry service. As mentioned the Pattaya - Hua Hin ferry either never got going or didnt last long.
