You can find Orphenadrine over the counter as a muscle relaxer for back issue.  Ultracet (325mg Para/37.5 Tramadol) is widely available.  You just need to sign a form for it.  Easy to buy a couple of boxes without any drama.

Thank you for the recommendation. I will test orphenadrine as soon as possible.

Ultracet is not what I expected. It works for me not better than Ibuprofen.

In addition some pharmacies are being extra careful after checks were recently made by undercover CIB police to ensure pharmacies were following the rules. I believe 127 were caught out.

Some of the medicines requested by these police were tramadol, Viagra and postinor.

That would explain why I no longer get Tramadol

Tramadol does NOT require a prescription. However pharmacies have to keep records of all sales and some do not want to bother. In addition, they will often hesitate to sell it to anyone they well uneasy about for any reason (the drug is receationally abused in Thailand)

Usually easier to get tramadol + paracetemol combination (Ultracet)

Maybe indicate where in Thailand you are so people can suggest a pharmacy

    1. I can only say that I have tried my luck in eight pharmacies in Pattaya and have been told "prescription only" eight times. In three of these pharmacies I used to get Tramadol without a prescription without any problems.

    2. Ultracet is the alternative that was offered to me. After a test no longer bought. The drug works for me in a similar way to ibuprofen, but not nearly as well as tramadol 50 mg.

As above, most drugs in Thailand do not require a prescription

Doesn't necessarily correspond to my experience, but I don't mean drugs like Paracetamol, Otrivin or Tiger Balm either.
One example: I suffer from chronic back pain, which I use Ibuprofen to treat when it gets too bad. On a few days, however, the pain is so severe that I have to resort to Tramadol.

Up until last year, I was able to get Tramadol in numerous pharmacies without any problems ... now all of a sudden they want to see a prescription for it. But since I don't want to spend half a day in a state hospital only for a prescription for the drug of my choice, nor do I want to pay large sums for an unnecessary conversation in a private hospital, I thought a small clinic would be an uncomplicated solution here. But it seems that I can probably forget that. ????

  5. We all know these small clinics where you usually go to get medical certificates for immigration or the Land Transport Department easily, quickly and cheaply.

In Pattaya, for example, there is such a mini clinic on Soi Nern Plub Wan.

Now my question: Are these types of clinics also allowed to issue prescriptions for prescription drugs, or do you have to go to a state or private hospital for this if necessary? ????

  6. I was at the Department of Land Transport in Banglamung yesterday to have my 5-year driver's license extended and due to the Covid measures, the visit was much easier this time than last time:

    1. Limited number of people, thanks to prior appointment.
    2. The hour-long traffic video could be viewed online at home.
    3. The time for the complete processing including tests as well as the creation of the new license took just an hour (for five years it took almost a day to complete).

  7. Does anyone know by chance where there is still a small clinic in Pattaya where you can get a health certificate for the extension of your 5-year driver's license inexpensively and easily?
The small clinic near Soi Siam Country Road, where I was five years ago, unfortunately no longer exists and I don't want to go to a hospital because of it.

Considering the chances of catching covid at the LTD are far smaller than having an expensive at fault car accident...

When I said "Driving for a limited time with an expired license" I meant only sometimes very short distances like from our home to the next 7-Eleven and back.
My wife will drive the most and especially the longer distances during this time.

If done within 12 months of expiry it is a normal renewal, after the 12 months you will need to re-do the theory test.

How does your insurance work driving around un-licenced ?

It probably doesn't work, but we live in very uncomfortable times with only negative options. Driving for a limited time with an expired license seem to me a less bad option than sitting during the climax of a dangerous epidemic for hours with lots of people in a closed room.

By the way: thanks for the helpful information about postponing an LTD appointment. ????

  10. Does anyone know how long you can postpone an appointment to renew your 5 year driver's license without facing serious consequences like refusal of the renewal?

I ask because the LTD (Banglamung) has been making  appointments for foreigners now again since the beginning of July and — with a look at the current Covid infection figures — I would prefer still to wait with my next visit. However, my driver's license expired on June 26th. ????

".....foreigners were also in her batch so it seems they are also able to renew whether by prior appointment or just turning up I don't know.....

The video room is now closed and foreigners now have to go to one of four locations away from the center to watch the video, transport to the video location is apparently provided if you want it....."

There are driving schools that organize driver license renewals for foreigners (they advertise this service on Facebook). Perhaps the foreigners in the queue were customers of such a driving school.

The "video solution" does not sound desirable to me personally. I find it much easier to follow the instructions of the officer my wife spoke to on the phone and to postpone the extension until the service is back to normal.

Unless they have closed again, this is not correct, certainly were allowing renewals with a prior appointment.

Believe it or not. My wife definitely has no reason to lie to me about the content of the phone call with the LTD officer. Nor does it make sense that the officer lied to my wife.

Perhaps it is handled differently in other LTD branches as well. According to TELEPHONE INFORMATION FROM LAST TUESDAY, the rules I have already mentioned apply to Banglamung in any case:
    • Driving license extension for Thais is currently possible with prior appointment via app.
    • It is currently not possible to extend driving licenses for foreigners by making an appointment on site (not possible via the app anyway).

As a reason, my wife was told that Thai-people can look the video online and confirm it later via app and ID-Card number-code. Foreigner can't do this because they can not confirm the app with their passport number and would have to look the video in a small TV-room with other foreigners (infection risk).

Anybody renewed their 5 year license recently?

"All Land Transport Offices have suspended all services related to driving license and transport personal license from March 31st 2020 until the state of emergency is terminated or until there is another announcement."
    https://www.dlt.go.th/en/

In other words: currently I can't renew my 5-year-driving-license which expires at the end of June 2021. My wife called LTD Banglamung and asked for it.
Answer LTD: NO driving-license extensions at this time for foreigners, because they have to sit with lots of other foreigners for more than one hour in a small room and look the information-video (infection risk).
Extension for Thai-people is okay because they can look the video online and confirm it later via app and ID-Card number-code.
Question of my wife: When will it be possible for foreigners to extend their license again?
Answer LTD: We don't know yet. You have to follow our information on social media or phone us again next month.

  14. "…Pharmaceutical Organization will import 11 million Sinovac doses from June…".

Probably but unfortunately not available for Farangs again. Emphasis on unfortunately ... because personally I would definitely prefer a classic old-school vaccine a'la Sinovac or Sinopharm to a highly experimental mRNA or a disease-causing vector vaccine. But as it stands, foreigners will probably only be able to choose between AstraZenecke and Moderna (i.e. between plague and cholera).

"...Just thought I'd give a little update. I stopped by the LTD today as I have an expiring 5 year license in a couple weeks. I read that as of Feb. 1 all LTDs were back open for all services. There was also mention of needed to book appointments online or with an app. At least at out local Chonburi office this isn't the case. You do have to book an appointment, however, as I guess they are only service a limited number of people per day to limit crowds in the office.

If applying or renewing a license go directly to the second floor and at the first desk ("Documents Check") make an appointment for the service you need. They will give you an appointment slip and a list of what you need to bring for your service....".

For me the most helpful post I could find here in this topic ... THANK YOU! ????

I have to renew my "5 Year Driver's License" at the end of June this year, but I have two more questions:

    1. What documents do I have to take with me when I visit LTD Banglamung to make an appointment at the counter on the second floor? I suppose only passport/visa and driver's license ... or something else?

    2. When was your appointment after the application? (Days or weeks later?) I ask because afterwards still have to get various documents such as the residence certificate and (perhaps) the health certificate. And I don't want any stress.
