Thank you for the help. Do you know how long the TB test is valid for?

    Overview

You’ll need to have a tuberculosis (TB) test if you’re coming to the UK for more than 6 months and are resident in any of these listed countries.

You’ll be given a chest x-ray to test for TB. If the result of the x-ray is not clear you may also be asked to give a sputum sample (phlegm coughed up from your lungs).

If your test shows that you do not have TB, you’ll be given a certificate which is valid for 6 months from the date of your x-ray. Include this certificate with your UK visa application.

I have just read through it. One thing I'm still not sure about. We have been married since 2019. Lived together for 1 year in Thailand.  Is the living together for 2 years still applicable? Or is that just for applying as a fiancé? Thank you

The living together for two years option is for those who are not actually married but have been living together for two years or more in a relationship akin to marriage.

You will note in the link BB helpfully provided that "You must be able to prove one of the following"

    What you’ll need to prove

You must be able to prove one of the following:

    • you’re in a civil partnership or marriage that’s recognised in the UK, or
    • you’ve been living together in a relationship akin to a marriage for at least 2 years when you apply, or
    • you are a fiancé, fiancée or proposed civil partner and will marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK within 6 months of arriving

I think what the hospital authorities are primarily interested in is the ID number on the pink card for which in most cases the yellow book is needed.I don't understand why this is seen as so important but that's the reality we have to deal with.

This is a prime example of the inconsistency of managing this process up and down the country.

I live in Hua Hin where the local hospital have adopted a virtual ID Card system, they have basically picked a number for the first applicant and then add one for each applicant, this seems to work and allows me to check my place in the queue, there's currently 2,000 people in front of me.

I think the local hospital are managing the process pretty well, and are only scuppered when the expected vaccines fail to arrive.

To travel to the UK if Thailand goes onto the Red list is pretty much the same apart from having to pre-book a quarantine hotel at a cost of £1650 (or £2600 for a couple)

Any person accompanying a British Citizen from a Red Zone would need to be a British Citizen themselves or have residency rights in the UK.

But if staying at friends or family, you are allowed to travel on public transport to your final destination ?

Sounds like Thailand . We flew in, had no testing, and then were allowed to travel from Bangkok to Isaan, and then go shopping before going home to self isolate . Wonder how many we could possibly infect on that journey

How to travel to the place where you’re quarantining

When you arrive in England, go straight to the place you’re staying to quarantine. Only use public transport if you have no other option, and make sure you follow safer travel guidance for passengers.

Thanks , I am just waiting to see whether Thailand goes into Red zone , then I would have to go into state quarantine anyway and wouldnt need tests or track and trace

You still need to pay for tests if you're travelling from, or via, a Red Zone, even if you're required to quarantine hotel

    Before travel to England

Before you travel to England you must:

  8. No, she can't apply for a visit visa and then apply for Settlement once in the UK, she needs to apply from Thailand, there was a consession to do so when travel back to Thailand wasn't allowed, but that has stop.

I can't advise on quarantine at this stage as the rules change frequently and the application process can be fairly long.

If she wants to use an agent she should use one who is properly qualified, not one of those who are, or used to be, at the rear of travel agents or sitting in the bars of Pattaya, when they were open, happy to point them in the right direction privately

If your friend is on benefits a suitably quailified might help them with a more appropriate route.

I was just stating what would happen if you just ignored all the red tape and just jumped on a flight without prior tests and form filling in, they would likely stick you in quarantine even if you arrived from an amber zone

It’s also quite likely that you be fined up to £10,000 if you could show you’d completed the correct documents on arrival at the UK Border, but as @Upnotoverrightly says without evidence of the required tests, doubtful if you be allowed to fly.

I am not given a choice as to whether I want to accept the red tape or not .

Either comply or get refused to board the flight or get a 1400 quid hotel 14 day quarantine when you arrive

The fourteen days quarantine in a Government hotel, guarded by G4S or the like, is for Brits who’ve travelled from, passed through, or been in a red zone ten days previously.

For those traveling from an Amber zone they must self isolate for ten days at their own home, with friends or at a privately booked hotel. As previously advised you can test and release after five days, but you still need to do the two and eight day tests

What is the best way to proceed regarding negative Covid tests within three days of the flight .

Would it be better to have a test and then book a flight ?

If you were to book a flight and for some reason you couldn't get a test or it came back positive , you would lose the flight.

I’d probably book a flexible ticket if I were planning to fly at the moment, more expensive but better than losing the whole ticket.
