Nonsense.  He doesn't qualify for Diplomatic immunity but that immunity doesn't extend to civil cases anyway.

Article 31 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations grants diplomats immunity from all civil lawsuits except for those that involve “private immovable property.”

Diplomats often use diplomatic immunity to escape civil cases for rent, parking fines etc, but as you rightly say Prince Andrew isn't an accredited diplomat.

  2. Some hotels in Hua Hin have a published policy that guests staying at their hotel and those wishing to dine must show evidence of their vaccinations before they can stay or dine at the establishment, they say this is to comply with Government Regulations.

The Centra have emailed customers, I suspect they're not acting alone.

There certainly seems to be more weekenders of late, only time will tell if it has an adverse effect on the infection rate as has happend previously.

Road checks are few and far between.

Had Bkk Bank card for over 10 years, plus UK bank and credit cards used here and many other countries. Never been hacked or had money stolen.

I had an unauthorised debit made on my Bangkok Bank debit card a few weeks ago, the card had never been used and was in a draw at home, I did get a refund but I had to file a police report first.

I had a Natwest MasterCard some years ago, probably 18 years ago, and despite it being not being used for years previously, and at home in London, somebody used the account for a spending spree in South Korea, a country I’d never been to. A short phone call to Natwest and the debt was cleared and a new card issued.

I’m glad to hear that you and your accounts have never been hacked or had cash stolen, but plenty of others have.

Those with 'residency rights' can travel and I believe that spouse visa gives her that. Happy to be corrected on this but that's my understanding.

What was the source of your belief that holders of a "spouse visa" allows entry into the UK from a Red list Country?

The advice from the UKBA, whilst unclear, doesn't seem to imply that is the case.

    Right to reside

‘Right to reside’ means you have the right to live in the UK.

You have a right to reside in the UK if any of the following is true:

Thank you for the clarification regarding the processing of applications.

Rules in Thailand change super quick.

As of Sep 2021 you cannot get an unsecured cr card without a WP.

I am telling the current rules not what you did many years ago.

I little snippet regarding what happened to a good friend of mine a couple of weeks ago.

He has very little in the bank, he's well past retirement age and doesn't have a Work Permit, and no way would he pass the normal lending critera for a credit card here in Thailand.

He took out a small accident insurance policy with a bank in Pattaya and tried to pay with a UK debit card online which was declined. He went back to the bank and was told that he could only pay with a credit card, he had no idea why and neither did the bank person.

When he said that he didn't have a credit card the bank person went away and returned saying that a credit card was approved, it was sent a couple of days later.

I'm not arguing with your claim that "you cannot get an unsecured cr card without a WP", except that it doesn't always seem to be the case.

I certainly got an unsecurred cc some years ago without a work permit, I still have it and the limit has increased over the years, but as you say you're stating "the current rules not what you did many years ago". seems nothing is ever straightforward here.

  6. @pixelaoffyYou mentioned the Bangkok Bank in London, they aren't a retail bank but they will transfer funds to an account in Thailand, it's been a while since I've used them and I think I had to register first, but this details their service.

Do you have a link that says that? The link above of countries that approve AZ includes the UK and it does not specify that the Thai-produced version is unacceptable. Do you dispute what the very first sentence of this post says, that it is the same quality as manufactured elsewhere, and then why that is so?

Of course as travellers from Thailand, and other red listed countries, are currently required to pay for a hotel quarantinne on arrival in the UK, providing they're allowed to enter, the fact that you're vaccinated is of little consequence, but that wasn't your question.

This is the relevant current requrements regarding vaccinations.

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-and-green-list-rules-for-entering-england#amber-list-rules

    If you are fully vaccinated

After you arrive in England you must take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2.

This applies if you’re fully vaccinated under either:

    • the UK vaccination programme
    • the UK vaccine programme overseas
    • an approved vaccination programme in Europe or the USA - not all are recognised in England

Find out how to prove you are fully vaccinated, which European countries this applies to and approved vaccination programmes for Europe and the USA.

It also applies if you are:

    • taking part in an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial in the UK or the USA
    • under 18 and resident in the UK, a UK Overseas Territory, the USA or one of the specified European countries

  8. The Tax Code on my monthly online payslip is the Personal Allowance minus my State Pension, this figure is for my Pension Provider to ensure they deduct the full tax due.

Any letters I've received from HMRC just have my NI Number.

My P60's show the tax code and the NI Number.

I'd be interested to hear if an earlier poster receives a response from the HMRC regarding the PA for his widow on his eventual demise, it seems ridiculous that a recipient of a Widows Pension should be charged tax on the total paid and then have to go through the rigmarole of seeking a refund every year.

Previous post says it all for Kbank receiving foreign currency.

For the overall cost this is usually only a small part.

There might be cost by your US bank and intermediate banks.

The other earner for Kbank (and other Thai banks) is the applied exchange rate (compared to money market rate).

Indeed, I used my UK based bank to send cash here. they charged me £20 to send the cash, I was then debited with a further £25 from an intermediary bank, with Kasikorn taking a further cut to receive it and, as you rightly say, the exchange rate wasn't too good.
