  1. I just heared a rumour - cant verify it is true. All ATMS in Bangkok about to go offline.

Why would they be about to go offline? Is all the power going to go out in all the banks?

I was warned of this a week ago by a friend who is in a top position at a bank. It's something to do with Bank of Thailand's location.

I was told to withdraw money for two weeks.

Once, again, how would the Bank of Thailand's location affect ALL the bank's ATMs?

The ATM transactions don't go through the BOT. Each bank's ATMs are independent. The back end switches will talk to each other for inter-bank transactions, but that doesn't stop all ATMs for banks that are still working.

I really don't know. I am no expert on that.

I am just repeating what I was told after they held a meeting at the bank. Not only ATM's but possibly credit card transactions will be halted too.

I was told to withdraw money for two weeks and to inform friends and family.

I think they didn't want to make it public because of the fear of panic withdrawals. We can see what happened to water and food supplies. Can you imagine everyone withdrawing HUGE amounts of cash and the effect that would have on the bank's economy?

  3. I wonder if the graphs are in proper ratio? - If so it looks like the river level will be above the walls f0r 5-6 hours every day until end of this month and likelywise 4-5 days into next months. If so - looks more like two huge waterfronts will be splashing against each other right in the center of downtown Bangkok.

That's exactly what I read somewhere. Can't remember if it was Bangkok Post or here but they say we could see a "reversal" of water-flow in the river.

  4. You really cant blame people.

There is no public plan in place & announcements from the govt have in the main been totally useless.

If no-one has any confidence that these dykes are going to do any good - why not break them down to solve local flooding?

I agree with you entirely. We need someone to take complete control and inform the public accordingly but will that happen? Of course not. All the leaders, governors and so on think only of their political careers. In a crisis like this everyone should put aside politics and work together.

I can also imagine the bickering and mudslinging (forgive the pun) there will be when the floods disappear.

  5. This has happend everywhere over Thailand and it will happen in BKK too. By building dykes you flood other parts more. So i understand people breaking them down. Same here we have more water because BKK refused to open its floodgates more. So if one of those breaks down it could help me.

Once the water hits your house you think a lot differently about dykes that make the water enter your home.

Yes, I can understand your point and you really have my deepest sympathies. I know several people that have their homes flooded now, in fact we have a family staying with us at the moment as their house is inundated.

Our garden hasn't been as dry as it is today for several weeks while our friend's house is under one meter or more of water. We are waiting for the floods. I'd love to get it over and done with. Let the water flow to the sea as fast as possible.

My point is are we know going to see a new crisis? It seems that many people want to take the law into their own hand instead of letting the "experts" take control.

  6. "At 1am many people came out to oppose the work of BMA officials. They threatened to use force against the officials, who risk losing their lives because they have not been trained to use arms or had any security training. They need protection from concerned agencies because we must protect the embankments to save the inner city from going under water," Sukhumband said.

It mentioned in Bangkok Post that gunshots were heard. Are we going back to the rule of the mob again?

  7. FROC is the Governments "Flood Relief Operations Command".

Every thing you read on here by FROC will be statements from them.

Whether you choose to believe them of not is up to you but they are the official government source.

Here is an official statement from FROC. A few days old but you can see who they are.

Having read that page then I think that the posting on Thai Visa "Thailand Sunday Live" which says "FROC warned all BKK residents for 1 m. flood as now all water gates opened. Tonight water'll get highest @ 9PM/Via@Porpich" is rather dramatic.

I understood this posting as being a statement released by FROC a few minutes ago and not someones "summary" of an earlier statement. This posting makes it sound as if heavy flooding will come tonight.

Anyway thanks for the link. I have seen that page before.

I think we can relax a little bit now. No major flood is coming in the night.

I have always believed the info posted here but I can't convince anyone else about it. They simply say "Nothing on Thai TV. Can't be true."

  9. If you read in the "Thailand Live Sunday" postings there are bulletins from among others FROC such as the following:

"Posted 45 minutes agoFROC warned all BKK residents for 1 m. flood as now all water gates opened. Tonight water'll get highest @ 9PM/Via@Porpich

"Where does this come from? Is it reliable? I have a limited ability to read Thai so I rely on TV for most of my news.

When I mention to the Thai family all I get is something like "Oh you and that bloody Thai Visa. Why do believe that? There is nothing on Thai news or Thai websites about it"

  10. Bangkok residents given 24 hours to evacuate

A GRIM-faced Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has warned Bangkok's 12 million residents that they have until tomorrow to move their belongings to high ground before huge flood waters hit the capital. Several of Bangkok's northern suburbs have already been inundated as Thailand's army sent troops to protect industrial estates on the city's outskirts.

Bangkok officials are worried that up to 40 per cent of the city could be inundated with next weekend's peak tides.

The floods have killed at least 356 people, damaged the homes and livelihoods of 9 million and crippled key provincial transport routes and industry in what government officials call a looming humanitarian disaster.

The Age - 12 minutes ago

FROC also just announced that Bangkokians should prepare themselves for up to one meter of water. The Thai family refuse to listen as there is nothing on Thai TV. "Just take it easy" "It will take days to come". We are on Thong Lor.

No one believes anyone now. There have been so many false reports.

  11. We use a filter for drinking water and have always had several large plastic containers to store the water in.

Two or three weeks ago my girlfriend threw all the plastic bottles away after reading that the plastic could cause cancer. Now we only have about five litres of glass bottles. We can't buy drinking water from anywhere.

To make matters worse I noticed today that the water from the tap is now tinted a pale yellow.

  12. It's normal.

I can give advice about certain matters and no one listens. A few days later a Thai will give the same advice and they all think he is great.

Incidentally, I get a lot of updates about the floods here on TV and no one believes me until much later when they hear from a Thai.

Just had the same thing about protecting the house from the floods.

Oh, I am in "central" Bangkok.

I agree with this post 100%

If, however, the poster is not English, could one of you please tell him I agree with him 100%?

    Haha I am English.

Just had a typical case where I read here on TV that Klongtan, Phrakanong and Pattanakarn residents should move their belongings over 1 meter. She commented that I was panicking and that TV was rubbish. Five minutes later she received an SMS from a Thai friend with the same message. NOW she believes me.

  13. I have the same problem and have had it for a long time. I used to think it was my Internet connection but when I changed my browser from Firefox to Chrome the problem disappeared. Now I use Chrome for Thai Visa on my main PC and Firefox for everything else. Strangely enough I can use Firefox on my notebook without problems.

I have written about this earlier. I have cleared all cookies, history etc. but it doesn't help. Oh I found out that stopping the loading and refreshing helps. I have no idea why.

  15. From the news thread:

Govt: Situation of Prapa Canal under control

Justice Minister Pracha Promnok, head of the Flood Relief Operations Centre, declared Thursday that the situation of Prapa Canal has been under control.

Pracha also allayed public fear that the water for making tab water had been contaminated by floodwaters. He said the quality of tab water would not be affected.

Late Wednesday night, floodwaters penetrated a dyed to enter the Prapa Canal, whose water is use for making editable water, causing the water on the Prapa Canal to overflow its banks at certain spots.

Pracha told a press conference that the level of water on the Prapa Canal has been reduced to prevent it from overflowing the embankments.

Why must the lies continue? I live 300m from a spot where this canal is STILL overflowing, going there to help with sandbags right now. The water level in our village next to the canal is increasing and only the local lake to saving us at the moment. Lying SOB's the lot of them.

Have they cancelled the necessary work permits for working in Thailand? If you're helping with sand bags you're probably going to need a work permit.

I just read in another thread that volunteers DO NOT need a work permit in this situation.

  16. Cant seem to use the UKTV.....downloaded installed and thats it, dead....only this something in German

yeah i just downloaded it and i get the same screen. Something about it being demo??

OK since people are having problems.

Click X on the banner to make it go away.

The automatic trial doesn't work for some reason. Go to Support on the website and ask for a trial password, they will email you a 30 day trial password.

Once you have your password click Options, Enter License Informations, put your trial password and username in the boxes and enjoy :)

Thanks. I received the password the following day. Great service.

Just wonder how much it'll cost when they go commercial.

  17. everything is back to normal.

True tech came over updated the router's firmware and said the systems was down for updating.

The True helpdesk didn't even have a clue what was happening.

If they were down for updating they need to figure out a less disruptive way to do updates, whether it's software/firmware or hardware upgrades. Heck, periodically when I look at my True cable modem's menu/firmware I see an updated firmware version has been loaded...I never knew it happened unless looking at the firmware version. . Apparently with cable modems it's common to automatically forcefeed firmware updates; but it's not common with ADSL modems. If I had to bet some of my own money I would bet it was damaged equipment somewhere due to the flooding.

I have been trying to contact True by telephone for a couple of days now so I decided to send an email. Today, I received the following reply. (Strangely enough I haven't been disconnected today)

    Dear Mr. Peter,

True would like to apologize for any inconvenience and we would like to thank you for your information.

  18. This is driving me mad...... i got True Online 12MB package the other day. I have very happy with the speed, on average 11 Mbs.

Every so often it takes me back to the landing page, especially when using my iPad or iPhone to connect.

I have the ZyXel router that they gave me.

Question, in order to stop being directed to the landing page, cant i just go and get a nice new router? will this solve the issue?

I see on an earlier reply post that it doesn't but can anyone else voucher that?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

fixed really easily without any needs for flashing routers. True actually helped me do it via online chat. If you know your ip address though you won't need it.

In your browsers address bar, type in your routers ip address. Brings up the router log in page. the password is 'password'. Then on the left menu click 'advanced' then click 'landing page'. Uncheck the box. save the new settings. wait 30 seconds. reboot your router and then yoour computer/iphone connecting to the router and all is good.

    Hope it works for you.

Doesn't work for me. There is no "landing page" under "advanced". The only settings I have are: "static route" "Bandwidth MGMT" "Dynamic DNS" "Remote MGMT" and "UPnP".

I've tried looking under all menu points but can't find a "landing page" option.

If you're using Firefox go to "Tools" and then "Clear Recent History" check to clear all but your passwords. That stops the redirection to True for a day or so. Then you need to do it again. Works for me.

I've turned off the history in Firefox so that doesn't help.

The problem arises after there has been an ADSL disconnection and that is happening more and more often. I have complained to True and today I received an email saying that they would come and change my router.
