  1. You mention your age and good looks but omit your wealth factor. Finances are the single most important element of any happy stable relationship here. I'm afraid that your age and looks play a very small part in the proceedings. Being well groomed, smelling pleasant and wearing appropriate clean clothes is a definite plus but any failing in that department can be overcome by the aforementioned wealth factor being increased appropriately.

To start out ... Find an ugly one but don't shag it. Enter into her circle of friends only. Establish yourself as a clean, well spoken and upstanding young man. Display all of the discreet expensive adornments such as a Rolex watch and a car. Look for the thickest, most stupid and manipulable cow in the group of friends, then make your move! Good luck, happy hunting.

    Meh

Money and flash/show only matters to the wannabe hi-sos.

The types who do FHM covers and the like - they're perennial social climbers and pretend to be hi-so but they're trash.

Listen to them cuss a lackey at the hairdressers or nail salon and you'll quickly realise just how second-rate they really are

If the OP's looking for casual sex with relatively genuine hi-sos - he needs to head to Thonglor, Ekkamai etc - they won't talk to him easily especially if their mates are watching and if their English is lacking.

If they do shag him, it'll come at heavy financial cost

    Cost how?

Endless shopping trips down at Paragon or Emporium (or similar).

I love it when I see some deluded fool thinking he's got a hottie 'for free' getting dragged around Bangkok's pricier shopping areas blowing his holiday budget/TEFL salary inside a day.

Best to stick to the less ambitious local crumpet, most of whom seem happy with a few Spys and a bit of grub in the evening and most of who are equally as hot as their more ambitious gold digging Thong Lor counterparts.

Well my fair skinned Thong Lor girl is certainly not a gold digger. We have been together for nearly 20 years.

Her family have far more money than I'll ever earn and they accept me as part of the family. I couldn't be happier.

We have worked out our economy. She has her own money to buy any luxury she wants and I pay running costs on the house.

So yes it can be done. Farang with white skinned rich Thai girl. I wouldn't class them as hi-so, but many of our good friends are. Most of them are very down to earth when you know them.

  2. There have been alot of nails in this coffin recently and here's another fine example of "Thainess" in Lieland the land of denials.

I don't know about nails in the coffin, but there have certainly been a lot of negative incidents involving British people.

If these incidents all appear in the British newspapers, then surely they will be creating a very negative image of Thailand.

  3. instead of trawling through facebook and pursuing people who click 'like' the police should be concentrating their IT resources fighting crimes such as the one highlighted here, and not relying on foreigners to do the work for them.

I agree with you entirely, but I don't think the police here are so interested in this type of crime.

Take a walk along Sukhumvit and there is still child porn readily available.

Not along ago I was at the Marriot Hotel. When I came out some guy approached me and asked if I wanted a lady. After a polite no, he asked if I wanted a man. Again I said "No thanks" to which he replied "A young boy or young girl?"

The police could easily get these guys, but they are not interested.

  4. They should remove "Khun" Charee as well and he should be sued for negligence along with the beach management. The Phuket authorities should prohibit all monkeys from roaming free in tourist areas without suitable security and protections for tourists.

Monkeys are wild animals and can attack at any time.

I was at a temple near Hua Hin a couple of years back and there was a large group of monkeys there. I don't really know what happened but two monkeys started fighting and suddenly nearly all the monkeys went crazy and started getting violent. Of course we left quickly and so did the stray dogs!

Let's hope Thailand never experiences anything like this:

  5. I think immigration are tightening up on this idea of only working at the place mentioned in the work permit.

The university I work at has a campus upcountry and when I renewed my visa last time, the officer asked if I ever teach at the campus. Before I had chance to answer, the secretary blurted out "No", which is untrue.

Later I asked her why she had lied. She replied that we would have to travel to the immigration in that province and register with them as well.

  6. I don't think the problem lies in the time frame.

I did my registratiin online the first time without any problems.

The second time I tried several times a day, every day up to the actual reporting day and it didn't work. That meant I had to go to immigration at Chaeng Wattana as it was too late to send by post.

This time I tried ince, it didn't work so I sent it by post.

I will continiue to do so in the future.

  7. You really sure those foreign "teachers" were any better than these trained teachers?

Some maybe but I've met a number of foreign chancers who were clueless when it came to meeting the needs of their students.

I agree with you. I have met some "teachers" here who had no idea of basic grammar.

I don't think age really matters. I know a guy who is 75 and still very strong and healthy and teaches English at a university.

Apart from that, I read in the Bangkok Post that these retired teachers would be paid 15,000 baht a month on top of their pension. That's not a bad deal for them.

I have been teaching at a government school for 20 years and my basic salary is 19.800 baht.

The problem is that many (not all) of the Thai teachers will still concentrate on grammar, syntax and so on, instead of actual communication as they, themselves cannot SPEAK English.

if thai teachers concentrate on grammar how come the majority of thai english speakers cant use, for example: articles, plurals, the third person, past simple and present continuous? all of which you would learn A1

they should employ qualified, and if possible experienced, foreign efl teachers through properly managed and accountable recruitment/immigration systems

I see your point, but that isn't the grammar they concentrate on.

I often help Thai teachers by proofreading their exams and most of the questions seem to be in the way of "Underline the adverbial clause in the sentence."

Underline the "noun phrase in the sentence." and so on.

These sentences also use very complicated academic vocabulary that I am sure the studemts don't understand. Hey but who cares as long as they can underline the adverbial phrase.

I once tried a whole test written by one of the teachers and I was quite surprised. I really wasn't sure about some of the answers.

Yes, the basic grammar is crap, with articles missing, wrong tenses and so on.

Not trying to be plucky...but why do you work for 19,800 baht per month ? I know you said basic salary but is there some other reason you would work for 40 % less than someone fresh off the boat ?

Yes there is a little extra. 9,000 housing and any overtime. Maybe I can get 35,000 a month.

    Why do I stay here?

Well when I started 28,000 a month wasn't too bad.

Sometimes I wanted to change, but was always told "wait, you will get a salary increase." That "salary increase" never came.

I waited too long. No one wants a teacher over 40 years of age. So basically I am stuck here.

So how much do "people fresh off the boat earn"? We have a guy here with PhD in education and he gets about 4,000 baht more than me. He is happy with the job as he is 62 and couldn't find a job elsewhere.

  10. The whole law is crazy.

Last night, I went to a 7-eleven at 00.05 to buy a couple of beers. The staff couldn't sell them to me. The cash register was programmed not to accept alcohol.

Ok, I bought a few snacks, went to the shop next door and it was packed with people buying alcohol.

Amongst the customers were a couple of girls who were provably about 12 -13 years old. They bought 6 big bottles of Leo without any problems.

  11. Ok. I am sorry I was too fast.

I thought that the accident happened today and looked in "Thailand Live Sunday" and found nothing.

I can speak Thai but not read and write, so I didn't look in the Thai language newspapers.

The link provided in another post was in the local forum.

I expected a story like this to be in the main Thailand Live section, but I guess there isn't much room for that as it full of English premier league news.

Is the purpose of your posting this thread to advise others on the forum of a serious road accident in the kingdom or is it to highlight your disdain for the forum itself and the amount of English Premier League news in the Thailand news section.

    Unfortunately I suspect the latter.

    How terribly sad.

    Haha

My first idea was why on earth this accident wasn't reported in the main news section.

I didn't think about the premier league news until I did a quick re-search. I am a football fanatic so I was being a little sarcastic. Anyway I get all my football news from other sources.

Edit: Don't know why this was posted twice. My PC hung for a few minutes and then... well you can see the rest.

  14. Actually, sports or running shoes don't seem to be a problem here in Bangkok. I find most of the top brands have wide shoes.

The problem for me is daily shoes. Most shoes nowadays are very narrow fitting and quite pointed. I am sure that if I found a pair that fitted me they would look like skis.

I can sometimes find Clarks or Ecco with a wide fitting but is very rare. I often end up buying shoes simply because they fit, not because I like them.

I am a size 45 or 46 but very wide.
