In Thailand sellers and waiters doesn't have a clue about what they are selling/serving.

They are already doing it in some european countries - even with borrowed or leased cars. The owner can off course appeal the confiscation, if there is a good reason why the car should not be confiscated, like if someone has used the car without the owners permission - but then there could be added theft charges on top of the reckless driving charges. Even some very valuable supercars have been confiscated, where the owners have lost the appeal.

Samut Prakan Immigration require the bank letter and statement to be done on the same day! We normally start out in the morning at Kasikorn Bank in Pak Nam (opens 8:30) a few km's from Immigration office. Then take a taxi to the amphur, which is in walking distance from the Immigration office. Construction is going on at the amphur in Samut Prakan, so it's a bit difficult to find the main entrance. Maybe the owner of the villa had led him to believe, that the steps was included in the rental deal of the villa? I believe he was not aware, that he did not have the right to chase people away, if they were occupying "his" steps.

I have no sympathy for Urs 'David' Fehr or what he have done. But if a Thai had done the same to a foreigner, the punishment would have been a slap on the wrist, or in worst case a 500 Baht fine with no jail time served. It seems like the Thai judicial system likes to punish foreigners for things, that a Thai citizen would easily get away with. In my humble opinion, such two tier behaviour will make many foreigners consider one extra time, before travelling to Thailand to spend their money.
