The BBL branches in Thailand don't have their own specific SWIFT code. Instead they all use the head office code of BKKBTHBK.

You should be fine...the BKK post article that Phuket News referred mentions 2 distinct criteria, the second of which says "400 or more transfers per year totalling at least 2MB" in total. Therefore it appears that you haven't yet triggered the review criteria.

Best to visit your local TI and ask the IO there.

In addition to what's already been mentioned above there is the age cut -off differentiator, meaning that if you're below 50 years of age the bank requirement is 400K under a Non O annual extension. This also allows you to work in Thailand subject to work permit. However, if you don't need to work and you're 50+ years old then the retirement extension is easy subject to meeting the banked money requirement. I've been on Non B annual extensions, Non O marriage annual extensions, and more recently retirement annual extension. The retirement annual extension was by far the easiest in terms of documents required. I will likely return to the work force soon (requiring regular overseas travel) so I will likely cancel the retirement extension and then get a Non O ME from HCM as it's easier than any of the annual extensions if you're still working and travelling regularly.

You can open a Thai bank account without working in Thailand, there are plenty of reports on TV from members who successfully opened account whilst on a Non-Immigrant Visa or a Tourist Visa (getting an account opened whilst here on a visa exempt stamp will be difficult). Peruse this long-running thread for further information:
However, for the second part of your question you won't be able to get an unsecured credit card without a having already got a work permit, with proof of salary payment. Therefore, foreigners here who require a local credit card but don't have a work permit usually opt for a secured credit card whereby the credit line is approved with a margin against a blocked bank deposit.

I did my annual medical check up last week (at RSU Medical) which included an eye check up.
The opthalmic doctor advised that I have cataracts (I'm age 57), but also advised that I have Optical Ischemia, which came as a surprise.
The doctor, who appeared to be in her 20's, seemed somewhat blasé about the Optical Ischemia and requested I come back in 6 months for another check up. So I would like to get a second opinion on the diagnosis as it seems to be a serious condition.
Therefore I'm seeking recommendations here for an opthamologist in Bangkok to check and advise on Optical Ischemia.

I drove past yesterday, and there's still a lot of work to be completed. Looks like it won't open before end of next month.

thanks for the great detailed answer.
There's been a few threads on procedures for obtaining the Yellow Book (and subsequently the pink card) over the years. But as skatewash mentions in post #505, the process can vary depending upon youy Ampur. I got mine from Wattana Amphur in Bangkok where the process was quick and painless. The Yellow Book process took about an hour (10 years ago), and the pink card process (which was more recent) about 20 min.

There's heaps of info on getting a Thai DL with existing International Drivers Permit together with Foreign DL in the Motor Sub-Forum:

As per the Chinese Embassy Bangkok info extracted from their website, "If you are not applying for the visa in the country of your citizenship, you must provide the original and photocopy of your valid certificates or visa of stay, residence, employment or student status, or other valid certificates of legal staying provided by the relevant authorities of the country where you are currently staying."
Therefore, it seems that if he shows a copy of the visa exempt stay for Thailand, that along with his Aust. passport, application form, and visa fee should suffice. For clarification he should contact the Chinese Embassy Consular Affairs:
Office of Passport and Consular Service of the Chinese Embassy
Address: 2nd Floor, AA Building, 55 Ratchadaphisek Soi3, Bangkok 10400

You can read impartial reviews on Transferwise at Compareremit. If you look through the reviews, you will see there are a lot of 1 star reviews. If you read those one star reviews you will see a common pattern and theme which I also experienced first hand. Words alone cannot express how bad my experience with transferwise was. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company!
I wish I had seen this post earlier. Had previously read plenty of positive comments about TransferWise in other threads on the forum and decided to test them out with a transfer from Australia to BBL Bangkok. Whilst the exchange rate that they offered was good, the transfer took min 3 business days. Thankfully it wasn't an urgent transfer, however in future, I will stick with NAB whereby the funds get credited into my BBL account on thesame day I make my funds transfer request. Whilst NAB's rates are not as good as TransferWise, they have improved their international funds transfer process compared to a few years ago and of course there's always the option of sending AUD to BBL and accepting BBL's exchange rate.

Ye and 500 plus miles north West of Brisbain Would'nt that be north east.
Need to take a look at the map matey, Qld is vaguely triangular shaped so 500 miles NE of Brissy would plonk you in the middle of the Coral Sea. The town of Mackay, nearby to CID Harbour, is defo NW of Brisbane.

are you sure the band is inside the holiday inn ? there is a bar right across soi 22 from the holiday inn that has live music several nights a week. i've walked by this bar many times and it seems to be popular when they have live music. not a very big place. it is right next to a 7-11 and fronts onto sukhumvit. sorry i can't remember the name of the place.
That would be the Titanium Bar.

Try another bank’s ATM machine, eg, BBL generally allows 25K per transaction and Krungsri 30K. Some others are capped at lower withdrawal amounts.
Another alternative to try is the Citibank ATMs in Interchange 21 at Asoke.

Bangkok Heart Hospital (part of Bangkok Hospital / Dusit Medical Group) located between Petchaburi Road and Rama 9 Road, (although I haven't used that one). I have previously done cardio/heart check ups at Samitivej Hospital in Sukhumvit Soi 49 which seemed quite good.

And will the dual sim phone purchased in HK, function with other sim cards from the world ? will it not be blocked, locked on any such compatibility sh*it?
Remember that the eSim function is not offered by all gsm operators in Europe. Fyi.
And this new toy does not accept the current nano sim cards.... a bit lost !
I installed the AIS nano sim taken from my iPhone 6 today and the phone XS Max is working fine in Bangkok. Comment about eSim not relevant here as the iPhone XS Max sold in HK/China/Macau is dual nano sim (which is the point of this thread, as originally raised by the OP), unlike the XS Max sold in most other jurisdictions such as Australia/UK and soon Thailand for which dual sim will be 1 nano + 1 eSim.

I was asked to show my TM30 receipt when I did my retirement extension there back in August. I had one so it wasn't an issue. However my previous extension was done in another province the year before so I don't know if that was reason or not?
Were you also required to file a TM28 since your previous extension was done in another province? The reason I ask is that when I submitted my TM30 today (upon return yesterday from an overseas trip) I also tried to submit a TM28 for change of address from another province back to Bangkok. The IO at the reception was not helpful and kept asking why my retirement extension had been done in another province as she didn't seem impressed by my remark that up-country life was too quiet for me so I returned to Bangkok. Eventually she instructed me to go to Counter A and join the extremely long 90 Day Report queue and try to file a TM28 there. When I saw the length of the queue I aborted and decided not to bother with the TM28 at present.

I bought at the HK Apple Store in Canton Road Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday. I got the XS Max 256 GB with dual nano sim. The store is huge and very busy, however, if you know what you want you can be in and out in 5 minutes as the staff there are very efficient and do on the spot sales with their mobile cashier devices.
By the way, I hadn't been in Tsim Sha Tsui district for about 15 years. The area was packed with mainlanders on shopping journeys so quite a bit of hustle 'n' bustle, although most of the hustling was being done by the ubiquitous Indian sellers of dodgy suits and copy watches (far worse than along Sukhumvit!).

Nice report. I was at Counter J1 this morning filing a TM30 with my TW. Arrived at 9am and was done by 11am. The queue doing 90 Day Reports over at Counter A looked horrendous, easily several hundred people in the queue there.

You could inquire with "Baan Mac" about selling it to them. They are a specialist in buying/selling used Mac's, but located in Prakanong area.

This seems to be a recycled article as Paul’s term as Ambassador to Thailand finished at the end of 2018, and a new ambassador is already in the building.
