I know it’s now Lotus’s but to people like me who’ve been here many years it will always be Tesco and if it had become a Big C we would still refer to it as the old Tesco.

and then there are those that remember in the mid-1990's when it was simply Lotus, before Tesco's takeover post-1997 Asian Financial Crisis prompting the name change to Tesco Lotus.

Were you able to guesstimate how many shots were being given under the embassy scheme?

I estimate there would have been about 300 foreigners being processed whilst I was there, so for the whole today perhaps less than a thousand. Of the other foreigners there it seemed the Japanese were processed before lunch and in the session immediately after lunch I noticed Australians and Canadians mostly. I reckon a cap of 200 per nationality (which mostly seems to comprise Quad/5 Eyes allies of Japan excl. UK) under this scheme.

  3. Province: Bangkok

Location: SCG Office at Bang Sue

Are you over 60/chronically ill?: No/No

How did you register?: Using the Australian Embassy link as per their FB/Twitter message issued last Friday evening (16th July). Confirmatory email subsequently received form the Embassy at 11:11AM Saturday for vaccination to occur at SCG Office at 1PM Sunday.

    Vaccination received: Yes

If yes,  Type of vaccine : AZ

Other Remarks: According to one of the SCG Supervisory staff onsite yesterday this batch of AZ came from last week's donation of 1M doses by the Japanese Govt which came with a condition to share a portion with foreigners resident in Thailand; I arrived there at about midday and was finished by 2:30PM; Was impressed by the efficient process and positive attitude of the Thai staff from SCG and the Health Authorities; No confirmed date for 2nd dose in October was provided however the staff said they will issue the 2nd dose appointment date via SMS during October.

I can't remember the name but it was in the building opposite side of Sukhumvit Rd to Robinson's at Termimal 21 and I walked through Robinsons and across the skywalk to the opposite side building to get there. The dentist was on the same level and down the back left side and there was a Botox Clinic on the same side. They also did general dentistry and whitening ect.

I had been going to that dentist in Times Square (Thai Smile) over the past 5 years. I had a tooth ache earlier this year so made an appointment to return however discovered that their Time Square branch closed late last year.

They now operate out of Gaysorn Plaza (click on website in the Google search that another poster on this thread provided) , so that's where I went in Feb this year, and had  'deep cleaning of the roots' done. Same staff that were in Time Square branch are not at the Gaysorn branch.

Back in the day when I was looking at investing into things as I did such as property and shares, I wanted something more so I looked at buying wedding cars and I purchased a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow and remember the very first day that I purchased it.

I was in William Street, Kings Cross driving away from where I purchased it and pulled up at the very first traffics and had my top (convertible) down, it was a sunny day and I was taking it all in. Next thing I heard was someone saying what an ego and I turned my head to the left looking at two guys in a Volkswagen convertible and they were saying what an ego repeatedly and pointing to their VW, I laughed and drove off.

I remember seeing that Rolls Royce in Sydney (mid-1980's maybe) with the 4MYEGO plates, my mum was impressed and had a bit of a chuckle.

  7. My Thai sis-in-law (age 50) was diagnosed this week at Ramkamhaeng Hospital with breast cancer. She's not particularly impressed with the assigned doctor so we're now seeking recommendations for a well regarded doctor/hospital for for better care of her situation.

Prefer proximity to Bangkapi area, but not essential, thanks.

I am thinking of ordering a couple of boxes of 25 cigars from overseas, so I should like to hear about other people's experiences. Is it just a matter of keeping the receipt and paying the tax? As we all know all law enforcement is arbitrary here.

Two boxes of cigars is more likely to be retained at Thai Post HQ at Laksi for payment of tax and collection. This happened to me a few years ago (for only 1 box) and I received a verbal warning from them against importing cigars. Since then I would only import 'sampler' bags of 10 cigars without any problem. However, I haven't done this for over a year or so as my supplier has suspended overseas sales in covid times.

    Different category of lunatic.

After all this time, the original grump is probably dead.

You may be right, after the Oriental Cafe shifted location in the Emporium about 5 years ago, I haven't seen the grump since. Coincidentally Mr Toad also seemed to drop off the radar around the same time.

if ATO looks at my activities it does look like I'm just temporarily away from Australia

I'm curious as to the circumstances that might prompt the ATO to look at your activities. Would it be solely in the context of annual filing of ITR's and consequential income tax assessment for yourself and the SMSF, or, is it a great overall concern that the ATO has become more like a 'big brother is watching' with the capability to track whereabouts with passports / passing through borders, bank account transactions etc.

  11. Unsure why the Pattaya dealer is lacking more recent stock. However, I have previously dealt with 2 Mazda dealers in Bangkok, one appalling dealership in Minburi and one excellent dealership in Ekkamai at Sukhumvit Soi 65. If buying again I would definitely buy from Mazda Sukhumvit 65 again.

How else could the primary property waiver be obtained?

I've had a yellow book since shortly after I bought my owner-occupied condo in 2008. I received my property tax invoice from the Amphur last week which includes the 90% discount. The Amphur valued my property at 11.3MB so therefore primary property waiver does not apply as the value exceeds the exemption threshold of 10MB.
