Indeed. I bought a 2 year old lightly used (Thailand assembled) BMW in BKK last year that still had 3 years BSI warranty left. The cost was 40% less than a brand new model. After the BSI expires, if the service centre at BMW Pattanakan is too expensive to continue with, then there are in fact some local independent repair shops in BKK that specialise in import/German vehicles - such as Thomson Garage on Srinakarin Rd.

I agree with this recommendation also. If unable to find one at Robinson's or Emporium Dept Store area, then the luxury brand name outlets such as those mentioned in Emporium would have the cardholders but at a higher budget. I bought this leather one at Gucci in Emporium years ago:

Is Starbucks the rightful King of the Coffee Universe?
mark5335 replied to LaosLover's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
"Is Starbucks the rightful King of the Coffee Universe?" They certainly are the King of Coffee in my district in BKK. I count that there's 16 Starbucks outlets within a 20 min walking distance from home. Mind you, the 7-11 coffees and privateer coffee street hawkers also do well in my area. -
I took a similar approach to this and it worked, and have not had any unsolicited investment calls for a few years since. Although I told him I was recently financially bankrupt, feeling suicidal, family had left and then I asked him for a loan. No call since.

Retirement Visa - 800k Balance
mark5335 replied to marcthailand11's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
In case you weren't already aware, the top 6 banks in Thailand carry the official designation of 'systemically important'. This means that the Bank of Thailand / Thai Gov't would support such banks in a liquidity crisis, i.e., they would be prevented from going 'belly up'. The top 6 are - Bangkok Bank (BBL), Krungthai Bank (KTB), Kasikornbank (KBank), Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), Bank of Ayudhya (BAY) and TMBThanachart Bank (ttb). Regarding BAY (Krungsri), additionally they are a 76% owned strategically important subsidiary of one of the worlds top 10 banks, i.e., MUFG of Japan. You needn't be concerned about such banks going 'belly up'. -
Fixer for BKK DLT 5yr Expired Licence
mark5335 replied to SuperSilverHaze's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I had a similar experience, but they (DLT Bangchak) did have a slot for me 2 months later which would have been more than one year after expiry. So instead, I travelled to a less busier province (Petchaburi) and thank fully got it done there in less than an hour. -
Thai company if I die?
mark5335 replied to yeahbutif's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
You could authorise your wife to insert the date on the transfers with a Power of Attorney (the date to be just prior to your demise) . Anyway, aside from that, you can now eliminate your sleeping shareholders. Earlier this month the Thailand Commercial Code (Section 1097) was amended and now only 2 director/shareholders are required instead of 3. -
No problems - I had placed an order with Medisafe earlier this month. It was delivered by Line Man courier the next day.

Renew Australian Passport while in Thailand.
mark5335 replied to TSF's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
I renewed mine 8 months ago (and paid with a Thai visa card). In your case, what card are you currently using to withdraw funds at ATMs etc? If you don't have a Thai bank account, then your overseas ATM/Debit Card would suffice as long as it has a Visa/MasterCard logo (as opposed to a China Union Pay logo). -
Yes, in fact in my own case the DL was issued in 2009 (being for my first 5 yr licence) as the 1 yr licence was issued in 2008. Since then I have done 3 renewals straight after my birthday (i.e., renewed for 6 years not 5), which adds up to 18 years between the issue date and current expiry date. Similarly, the Op got his first 5 yr licence in 2015 (issue date), and with the current expiry date of 2027, he may have gotten a renewal in 2021 (6 yrs), plus another 6 yrs bringing him to the current 2027 expiry date.
-
My DL says "Issue Date 5/2009" and "Expiry Date 1/2027". But obviously I have renewed it several times during that timeframe. If you're prone to brain melts, maybe you had already renewed it in 2022 but can't recall?

Indeed. Although now having a Prime Minister and a Foreign Minister that don't have British / Irish ancestry is a first for Australia and an indication that the perception could soon be changing for the better. In fact give it another couple of years... https://www.geo.tv/latest/468958-australia-likely-to-remove-king-charles-as-head-of-state-in-2025

I got a 60 day extension to my 30 day visa exempt entry last Sept for the purpose of visiting Thai wife. I had initially gone to CW where I filed a fresh TM30, and then sought to apply for the 60 day extension for visiting Thai wife. The CW staff were adamant that I must go to IT Square at Laksi for such an extension. Anyway, rathen than argue we then took the quick cab ride to IT Square and got the 60 day extension done there in about 30 minutes. (I noted that most of the other applicants there seemed to be applying for 30 day extensions for tourism though.)

Renewal Of 5 Year Driver's License
mark5335 replied to patsfangr's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
It shouldn't matter (but might, depending upon the attitude of the staff at that particular DLT office). For example, my yellow tabien baan and TM30 filing are registered in Bangkok but I do my 5 yr driver licence renewal in Petchaburi rather than Mo Chit or Bangchak as the staff in Petchaburi DLT office are quick and cheerful, and accept by Bangkok address without question. In your case it's unclear whether either of your tabien baans' are yellow or both blue. If they're both blue then you will need a residence letter from the immigration office where you file your 90 day reports. -
In your case I would go to another DLT office (such as DLT Bangchak) that accept the Yellow Tabien Baan as proof of address, and save your self the hassle of obtaining Resid-Cert Letter from Immigration. However for Bangchak you'll need to make an appointment, unsure about others but I believe that DLT Mo Chit there is a quota of Foreigner renewals of 20 per day that fills up quickly (NB: my info is a year old - not recent). If you decide to persevere with DLT Rama 2 then you'll need the Immigration office that you have filed your 90 day reports to issue the Resid-Cert Letter (should be CW and not Phayathai?). Unsure about the Embassy Letter as my Embassy doesn't certify addresses.

The larger tide is normal in December in Cha-am & Hua Hin. However currently the low tide isn't until about 3am, so that's a bit of a double whammy. I was there earlier this week, and the waves were hitting the steps from central to south Cha-Am beach, although the northern end was still very sandy.

...and potentially 17 months (1 year plus 90 days last exit before expiry, followed by a 60 days extension to visit wife).

You can order these from Medisafe Pharmacy in Bangkok, and they will arrange delivery (to most locations in Thailand). For the Atorvastatin, they sell a generic (imported from India) that is much cheaper than Lipitor/Sandoz. Unsure about the Metoprolol, best you send them a message. They usually reply within an hour and arrange prompt delivery (for Bangkok it's next day, for your location probably 2-3 days). https://medisafepharma.com/

'Incorrect' Name on Bangkok Airways Ticket Booking
mark5335 replied to siftasam's topic in Chiang Mai
I've always found the Bangkok Air call centre to be responsive and helpful. Contact them to explain on "Call Center at +66 (2) 270 6699 every day during 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. (BKK local time)" -
"Wash Me Now" in Sukhumvit Soi 39 in Taka Town near Saen Saeb canal / Petchaburi Rd. (Note that they're temporarily closed until 7 Nov for renovations).
