  1. I think the fact that they did a runner means you're not getting paid anyway, so you're going to have to claim yourself or pay yourself depending on what insurance you have......................and personally, in all the years of driving in the Kingdom, i have seen loadsa red plates and loadsa vehicles without plates, but never ever 'obscured plates',so.........................................................
  2. On the surface, this had the makings of a really good topic from the 'expat perspective', and was very relevant to those living in the Kingdom, but unfortunately, the chosen keywords in the opening paragraph took the topic in another direction for the most part.................some might think the 'expat persepective' was just a distraction.......................................

    M&S in Central

An absolute fact, they tried to compete on price and had to reduce quality many years back, big mistake IMO.............regardless, they've adapted and slimmed down retail space and got back on track profitwise, the city favours them again and shares jumped 20% in a day last week on the back of quarterly or annual figures...................................
  4. Keep posting positivity, don't be put off, your post was useful to know that the system does work, just not for all....................................many of us love positive comments but unfortunately some prefer to only see the negative side, and sometimes posts can be misconstrued and in your case, some might want to believe that you were boasting as one poster highlighted................the more people that post positive comments, others will follow as they will feel less of a minority and less intimidated..........................
  5. Personally, I see no harm in encouraging kids at an early age to explore subjects and skills (and I'm not just talking about wood/metal work!) where they may have a proficiency in and/or enthusiasm for, especially in a country where academia plays second fiddle to 'who you know' and 'how beautiful one might be'..............................................................as long as less scholarly kids still leave school with decent maths and first language skills, there's absolutely no harm in fast tracking them with non academic skills for early apprentiship and so forth............................I find it hard to believe that Western curriculums haven't already really embraced this type of system.....................................perhaps someone can suggest to the contrary...........
  6. You could consider placing a 'for sale' sign on the land........................................locals who might want to purchase the land will perhaps know about any selling time frame and may also have a way to deal with the land office and 'this potential law' to get the deal done.............................................let the buyer do the donkey work and if it's a desirable piece of land, then they will do their damnedest to make it happen........................
  7. A fun suggestion, that if you have a great looking garden in the rain that you may have inadvertently come across a potential side hustle..........................
  8. Safety deposit boxes in thailand are just that..Safe..................................the grey area IMO is customs, that's your weakest link..............................
  9. ...........................and perhaps consider filming it/time lapse and making a couple of quid with a white noise sleep video on youtube..!
  10. Well, you're either a visonary or perhaps your utter distain for the current powers that be are curtailing/blinkering any potential positivity in the country as well as it's tourist industry. They certainly are becoming more and more China's lackey, no news there. Whether that drops them 56 places in world ranking, I'm not sure, nor do I believe that tourism is finished for the reasons and more I stated above................................... ......................................I come across many of your posts and feel your frustration in them, I'm hoping they're clouding your predictions above and not gonna be reality................
  11. As a South East Asian tourist destination, it has certainly been diluted of late.........................
  12. That's a helluva statement........................ do you really stand by that, or perhaps acknowledge that it will bounce back in time?...................................personally, I believe it will as it has too many assets...................namely location close to China, the Thai culture, lovely beaches and nature etc, a delicious cuisine and in my experience, fun loving people......I've probably forgot loads of other assets, but................................
  13. It seems that you are adamant that you will import to Thailand regardless..................IMO, it could be like opening a can of worms regardless of how many precautions you take............I get that you want to be in control of your property, but personally, I believe your best sales market is probably where the items originate from (one poster at least alluded to that, as the market is quite diifferent)....................................................With that in mind and if I was in your shoes, I would speak to friends, family and research the net for dealers who will sell the items for you on a commission basis. At least they will know the true value, (you don't have to tell them that you're unaware of which might be costume etc), keep your cards close to your chest..........................They will also be accountable and responsible for the safe keeping of the property and you can just sit back and wait for the sales to come in over time..................................................This would be an avenue that I would consider pursuing..........they, as dealers will also be able to get full retail on them, so even with their commissions, you could still do quite well......................................regardless, nice to be on the receiving end..........................
  14. I'd say they are held in high esteem by most in Thai society..........flight crew positions are ones that many Thais aspire to and well paid secretarial jobs can come with serious pay packets, especially where a command of a second language is required.............................................
  15. and you'll see my posts are exactly that....................................No one has expressed 'Expats are globalism' in this thread anymore than me................................. I would also add that many of your threads you initiate, seem to end up with left/right divide, what's a man to think.........................................
  16. I was referring to the thread, me banging on about the media in the US, and you replying quickly with US media article, all tongue in cheek funny.................
  17. I think upu know the answer to that question already......................
  18. Guess British humour got lost on you..............................................
  19. Was that deliberate replying to me with a US news corp article albeit from their European arm!!!!! Mr. Orban cetainly doesn't coem across as a globalist, at least not in the sense as one from the attached description in your initial post................................................However from an expat perspective, the Hungarians living in the UK, I'm pretty sure are globalists to a certain degree. Many have had families in the UK with their children going to schools and so forth and 'yes' there are some no doubt purely here for financial reasons only perhaps living in their Budapest bubble.........But these Hungarian expats are similar to Western expats in Thailand. They are living abroad and by default are globalists with their exposure and life in a foreign land.........gotta be a good thing..................................................
  20. Not being Hungarian and rarely receiving Hungarian news, especially something that may be far left or right based; I'm not exposed to weaponising words and politicising news thank goodness from that country, Hungarians may well be, I'm not sure. My neighbour is Hungarian, as are the occupants of a house 20 metres away, I've not heard any weaponising and politicising from them...........................................more of a US thing and recent culture shift IMO and what a waste of airtime it is too......................................but that's the US media for you..............................pretty sure one can blame them for any weaponising and politicising...........................
  21. and trust me on this........................when you're entrenched in a local community doing good, nothing will happen..........Thais, in my experience will support you..................I get that you might wanna stick by the rules, I respect that...................................... but being part of the local community, it pays dividents and is very rewarding, part and parcel of a being a globalist...........................................
  22. In that case break the law as I have done on may occasions........as an example, I co organised a festival on Samui in 2006 which raised hundereds of thousands for local charity..the whole community pulled together.....I'm sure there are thousands of expats going under the radar doing good deeds for their local communities.......a risk worth taking IMO......................
  23. Quite possibly distinguishable by what they do for the community for example.......................
  24. is it too late to retract my claim to being one...............................
