A nightmare is unfolding.....

if ever there was proof that it's just a pathetic move by a clueless chancer, it is this statement 'quoted' of yours..................no investment, emulating his rag tag peers, not a hope in hell, in the middle of nowhere........................it's all gonna work out fine....carry on as normal...............patience and karma will see you through.................................................. -

Has anyone suggested employing ghosts yet.? They could well do the trick or at least get creative with a ghoulish approach.............................................................................. ....................and for those that can't sing Karaoke there's always the Premika angle of attack............... -

Yes he does................... which keeps his replies simple, leaving others to read between the lines.............................he's also usually on point, humorous at times, refreshingly non pc and importantly, frank with his opinions............................ -
Got any tips......................

Without a shadow of doubt, it's a typical cunning Thai move (they're kinda good at this)..................You have a couple of options.....................and the outcome will depend alot on whether your wife has already made a complaint or talked to absolutely anyone about this issue........................if she has, your chances of quick success are lessened. You gotta remain nonchalent........................ Option 1. Carry on with the build as if nothing is bothering you Option 2. Stop building for now (you're obviously living elsewhere at the mo anyway) You could also consider; once built, giving to a family for free until the problem goes away......................Eventually, the problem will go away anyway You could try to buy/lease the problem land as a buffer at a later date, through a proxy perhaps the best approach. The helpful sound proofing options suggested by many will help, but won't solve the problem. Depending on the size of the land my soundproofing would be an earth mover making a mound along the border and reaarranging the build so that any outdoor terrace areas are facing away from sound source.............. I wish you all the best, not an easy time for you, but patience will prevail I'm sure. -
Whats your neighbours and privacy like?

So very true, this is my experience also, exactly as described, it's the high pitched sound that grates, invariably like their owners.............I would rent again though as I like the security on properly managed estates together with sometimes really decent facilities and not every street/or neighbour has neurotic pets.................... -
Vaccines not lockdowns helping to reduce COVID-19 cases in Thailand
bojo replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations?country=OWID_WRL according to the link above, as of the 7th October the UK figure fully vaxxed is 66%. Confusion can arise interpretating the data published on news channels. Today I saw on the BBC news the figure for over 12's was 80+% or thereabouts, but for overall population the link above seems credible -
If you're referring to me.....it's one of my favourites, bit rusty though not having used it daily for 3 decades My point was that for many, it's extremely hard to change impressions from one's mind when one is constantly reminded of it through media and word of mouth...................................... In comparison, the reason many wannabe expats consider Thailand as an ideal place to live is because of what they've heard, seen or read. There's no smoke without fire................................... I'm not sure that being safer than much of the USA is a good benchmark BTW.............................. Personally, if I'm going to live in a foreign land, I would like to get about alot and don't want to be holed up in a 'specific place' as you mention.............. Appreciate your feedback.................. My bad on country misunderstanding, getting lost in all the posts..........................

Chiang Mai is the best I've found for experiencing culture, but I haven't lived in BKK. It's quite a small city in comparison, but holds quite a few events throughout the year which are enjoyable. They have theatre, but not sure if in any language apart from Thai. The international schools hold many events throughout the year, including concerts and other events. I found the schools a great way to find out what was going on culturally in the city through the parent network and just having a child study there...............................................There are universities which have their events' calenders and the city is quite musical, especially jazz. I remember there being mini concerts, again often jazz, together with perfoming arts around the city (many ballet and dance schools around the city) at smaller venues and often in shopping centres. ............................The city has a very popular magazine, City Life which I'm assuming is only digital now, so great for searching from afar, which is a mine of information for events and concerts, film festivals etc throughout the city....................................................Many of the locals are very well educated too and have often spent extended time abroad studying and travelling and IMO have introduced/brought back (in addition to Thai and Lanna style cultural events) a Western format and theme to events held throughout the city which I really enjoyed............................................I'm not saying that Chiang Mai is the cultural capital of the Kingdom, but I would imagine it hard to beat from an expat's perspective, together with a great vibe for older foreigners still wanting to enjoy an active social life with like minded souls....................................................................................Great place, but you really need to be amongst the city with your ears to the ground, hooking up with the schools network is recommended, to truly discover 'what's going on'................Oh and don't forget Chiang Mai cricket club at Gymkana with games held most weekends.................. there's loads going on...............................................................

Very tempting for those that can embrace a foreign language and enjoy being totally immersed in a new culture........................ Those rental prices quoted are seriously cheap, and you mentioned earlier about 60K purchase prices for perhaps something similar, so no need to buy really...........................but I think many, myself included, can't get the idea of security, kidnap, killings and all those negatives that one reads/hears about in Mexico out of one's mind........................Hollywood hasn't helped with the likes of Denzel in Man on Fire and Sicario etc etc.................................To me, Mexico is exotic as was the thought of living in the Land of Smiles late 90's, maybe you're onto something. Time for more research...............................

No wonder Thais think that foreigners don't know anything...............!!

With the exception of Gamma's nod to Haiti which I'm not sure if that was tongue in cheek or not, I don't think anyone has mentioned the Caribbean................................................ The Dominican Republic was a fun place back late 90's, and I've not been since. It's big enough not to feel too insular and not too edgy that one felt uncomfortable.............................................................................................. I fancy the healthcare is probably not up to scratch, so that could be a concern for retirees. The climate and general island feel if I remember rightly was fairly similar to Koh Samui and Phuket, albeit a far larger land mass. Personally, I love local Caribbean cuisine, enjoy being close to the sea and enjoy interaction with visitors, locals and travellers alike, so i don't think I would be bored there?????......................................................................Perhaps an extended visit is in order to see how it is a two decades plus later and explore more of the island, rather that just Cabarete............................................

Watching the vid and observing the body language of the quite credible Rudolf; I feel that he is more than likely telling the truth. The wife certainly appeared genuine too (again IMO). The account described certainly seems very plausible........................................................If the intruder isn't influencial and/or well connected and Rudolf has a few quid tucked away for the victims family, laywers, judge and the police etc, with a bit of luck, he could be back home in the not too distant future...................................then, situation depending, they might want to consider moving fairly quickly......................................................I hope it works out for them.............. -
Over 20 plus years ago I stayed at a wooden bungalow resort in Samui and the owner used to dunk rags in used engine oil and wrap them around the concrete posts/stilts of all the bungalows. there were termite mounds in close proximity but never made it up the posts..... Ever......................................The owner, a Thai biochemist and life long friend is a bit of a maverick, to say the least...........................................................I'm not suggesting you should employ this technique (old rags n all!!), but according to the net, it is a 'thing' and your property may well not be on stilts anyways...................................
