Perplexing Frustration At The FX Office
bojo replied to sammieuk1's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
You're showing your true colours here Mr. Geordie!!!!..Great idea to send em home if you wanna chance it and the OP could also consider offering an incentive to a friend or thrid party..............eg sell the notes for less than their face value and just be done with it if all other options fail or perhaps consider some ink remover/equivalent and test a sample area first of course............................................ -
Sure, but that duty free threshold is £135 and total value was under £100 including shipping....there wasn't a duty charge per se, it just stated a £50 VAT charge, something I've never seen with lots of previous shipments of similar value.................................

It's OK, it's an Asian thing, but when I see expats following suit, that's a whole new discussion..............

I have used many of the caffitaly capsule machines over the years and they are available in Thailand. The coffee is very similar in taste to Lavazza IMO and I have noticed Italians visiting the Kingdom have always enjoyed coffees served from these machines which I believe to be a vote of confidence..................I have added a facebook link below and a quick google search reveals more info.........................I don't know where you're based, but there's a Swiss guy (Marcus) on Samui who used to sell the older Caffitaly pod machines and service them too............................................The Boncafe suggestion is also a good one as they are very good at servicing and maintaining the machines.................................. https://www.facebook.com/caffitalyTH/posts/388153561537410/

Moving to Thailand - is bringing furniture etc worth the hassle?
bojo replied to SunshineSeeker's topic in General Topics
I would have thought it quite therapeutic to get rid of everything, especially if you have the time to do so and having the fun of going out buying a new set of whatever takes your fancy here and there without any preconceptions.......................You never know what you're gonna come accross, that's half the fun IMO......... -

Personally, I believe all country's customs are a law unto themselves.......we had a Red Cross parcel sent from Thailand (Thai post office) to the UK last year with some Thai dried foodstuffs. Purchase and declared cost was no more than about £40 (certainly no duty to pay) .....we received a letter to go and collect the parcel from the local sorting office and pay a £50 VAT charge....................... To contest the charge was just a long drawn out process designed to wear down the consumer, no chance in hell of getting the charge reversed .....................Customs...you're in the lap of the gods....................................

Condominium Regulations, Covid-19, and non-Thai tenants
bojo replied to Vaughan9's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Yes, sounds like a 'doo took' thing............pretty sure you'll never get to the reason why....................would using a Thai to submit all the documents/arrange sublet be a prudent move? -
Car Bought On Credit Seems So Expensive Now - Options?
bojo replied to UKJASE's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
AS BritMan highlighted, you could lose the vehicle, but there will be third parties involved no doubt and thus weak links. If it was me, I'd approach the lender and try and get a decent settlement, but if it's a chunk, which it sounds like it could well be by the comments from posters with experience here......................................... then I'd just pay the damn 7K a month on the never never and be done with it, in the knowledge that at least you know you're wanted for the next few years.............................................. -

Getting back to Thailand under Nov 01 regulations
bojo replied to Negita43's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes, sorry, you did..........................kinda be good to know if this OX is a possibility, I'm sure many might prefer it over the 'What am I getting for my money here' Elite option................................ -

Getting back to Thailand under Nov 01 regulations
bojo replied to Negita43's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thank you very much Doc.................and whilst researching on the Royal Thai embassy website in London yesterday, I saw there is such a thing as an OX visa, namely needing 3 million THB in a Thai account for a 10 year long stay visa for over 50's..............................I have never heard of it mentioned on TV, didn't know this visa exisited............Would you know if it still exists and if so, do you have an opinion on whether this is a good visa to apply for for those that might be fortunate enough to be eligible?? The price was just a couple of hundred pounds I think, a far cry from the Elite cost.................. -
You're sounding like you need help/ a reset and for whatever reason you don't wanna get treated in Thailand. Perhaps it's financial or you juust wanna be treated by your own, I get that....But if you have the money to fly home, then you could get treated in hospital in the Kingdom IMO and as Sheryl pounts out, they vare very experienced in doing so with TB.......................................................it's a fact you do officially need to be 'ordinarily resident' in the Uk for free NHS treatment and I'm sure as Black Prince highlighted , you can or might get billed for 150% of costs, but as Britman (who by his own admission, is happy to lie to the government!) says, you will get treated............................................................Another poster advises to state that you are homeless, this is also an angle.................................................................................So, really it all depends on how much front you've got. I know of a couple of expats who have lived abroad for many years and most certainly haven't been 'ordinarily resident' but have been fixed for serious conditions by just going back and going to hospital.............You will be seen if you go into A and E and you will be treated and if you don't have any money or assets in the UK, they can bill you all they like and that's gonna the end of it......................Or you could do the right thing and move back home, register with a GP and go through the proper channels, perhaps get a P/T job and reinstate your tax status and whatever pension you may have as well).....................get treated.......................keep an address in the UK after and return should you so wish.......................

I'm in a similar situation with money in Thai accounts for many years now and am looking to return back from UK and subsequently get a retirement visa soon.........On a thread yesterday, it was quoted by 2 posters (UbonJ, being one), that the 800K money needed to show that it had come from overseas........In my case, the money wasn't transferred from overseas, but was from deposits from within the Kingdom over many years..................I'm a tad confused as the link UJ attached seemed to indicate that the funds should have come from overseas....................any advice apreciated.................. -
3 year old learning english...need help!!!!
bojo replied to NZAMBOY's topic in Primary & Secondary Education
I am assuming there isn't an English speaking/International school nearby........................So, either move there yourself full time and speak English with her 24/7 or IMO preferably, persuade wife to move to an area where she can go to a school where English is the primary language spoken, eg an International one....................Unless your daughter is around kids for most of the day that speak English, Thai will always be her first language........... -
I'm no corporate tax expert by any means, but if you buy somethng for 3M and then after the 1.5 depreciation that you mention and selling/valued at 5M, then the profit is 0.5 Million which is the difference between purchase and current, therefore leaving 0.5 profit................................would you not pay tax on the 0.5 only (less any deductables)..??

Rain water runoff to a dirt road
bojo replied to Isan Farang's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
From this pic, it looks like opposite is just trees on empty land. Would you be able to run a pipe across and under the road from your property having channelled the water in to that pipe on your land? With permission of course!!!! Tricky one TBH as it sounds like the locals have taken a jealous disliking to your development.......................... I'm sure the local visit by local authority will be able to sort the situation amicably though (as long as they are seen to win, it should be fine}...................................................
