If this is the definition of a globalist, then I am one that's for sure and have been fortunate enough to have travelled and experienced what a globalist might feel like from a tangible perspective..........With that in mind there must be millions who at heart are globalists but don't have the means to actually experience and live as one with their voice, ideas, wisdom and their presence; that indeed is a pity as they will have alot to offer the world,............................................ whereas on the flipside, there is the fish and chip tourist brigade who fly off to the likes of Benidorm and have absolutely no intention of sharing or indulging in what the world has to offer............................There are also expats worldwide who like to live in their bubbles and like to live their lives as they would have at home and have merely moved abroad as they were most likely unhappy with the climate for example..............................................Thankfully for the most part, these are a minority and most expats encourage globalisation by engaging locally which in turn is usually reciprocated and so on................... So expats IMO, they/we are the globalist pioneers...............................................

and perhaps hundreds of thousands of Chinese are making plans to come and retire/semi retire here, it's pretty much a satellite state for them in some respects.....................................

I love Poppy day and I was surprised that it stretched as far as Koh Samui..............................Back in the early noughties Big Dave Covey, the then, UK Honary Consul on the island used to drop the poppy boxes around to restaurants and bars on the island.......We all used to do our best to collect as much as poss............real community spirit back then..........................great feeling, great cause and 'thank you' to all....................

You're gonna get some flak here, especially your disclaimer in the middle paragraph.......

Not for single males that have the wherewithal.....................perhaps for couples but not because of the visa requirements, more because the country has levelled up more price-wise with other destinations.............................I'm not sure that it was ever a worldwide top choice for couples though................

I hear you..................when I lived in an older style concrtete built property in a Koh Samui coconut plantation we always ate on the floor, true 20th Century Thai style, I just loved that, sooooh informal.................... but when living at our modern Moo Bahn home after in CM, it was all dining table, sitting on the floor just wouldn't have seemed right.........gotta say tho, if I had to vote, give me floor anyday........................................

with the 2 dining room chairs being used only for any board meetings..?!!

What an exciting prospect OMF.......a blank canvas, just the best.....................I can't answer your questions in detail as there are soooh many considerations and variables, bjt evefrything is available online anyways....................As I'm sure you're aware, older properties generally have more space and are less desitable to Thais and subsequently cheaper, so good move.................................High floor, I assume you mean high ceiling??.......... This is the best as you can incorporate a mezzanine, and finally if it was me, I would move into my chosen apartment and live there even with bare necessities before transformation........it might be uncomfortable to what you're used to, but until you get the 'real feel' you're not gonna be able to find the right design for the place IMO, take your time living there first or even better, consider renting it first (if that's an option) to really make sure...................................................

So true, but I think that if there are genuine tourists coming to Thailand, who perhaps don't follow the forums like TV and aren't perhaps regulars, there's no way that they would consider that in the extremely unlikely event that they would be frog marched to hospital for a two week stay at some extortionate expense to themselves (or hopefully their insurance company's upfront cost covereing??), they wouldn't even be thinking that through.......I can't even see there being small print/info anywhere for that scenario.....................God forbid

There's no smoke without fire or perhaps Bbq in this case.............................I imagine everyone on TV is in agreement that rules will change and requirements will stiffen in the not too distant future..............we're never gonna reach any conclusions here, we all know the rules are gonna keep changing.....................................but defo good to keep sharing and discusssing as best way to stimulate preparation, even if it might seem like a broken record...................................
