  1. Nobody moaning at me if I want to put a tree on my land. Nobody moaning at me if I want to build an extension on my house.

    Walking around in flip flops.

    Cheap clothes.

    Cheap food.

    Buzzing around on the scooter.

    The smiles.

    Beer Leo.

    Great beaches.

Hustle n bustle if you want it.

  2. Hi Folks,

The missus is looking to start up a business in Sakon Nakhon. Though she has a good idea in place in everything she wants to do I have spoken to her to seek some advice regarding all the legal side of things.

Does anyone know of any legal advisors she can go to? It can be Udon, Nakon Phanom, KhonKean or anywhere else within reach.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. As far as "happiness" is concerned, that's a fleeting, abstract, individual concept. Different people have very different temperaments. Some might feel "happier" embracing the feeling that Thailand is their real home and others may feel happier keeping the more sobering facts of our legal status closer to the surface. Don't assume you know what works for OTHER people. Also don't assume the people who feel fully at home here are necessarily a happier class of people than those who don't. In real life, each person has many complex factors going on that add up to their feelings of so called happiness.

    That's deep that mate.

The topic is "When will you call Thailand your home". biggrin.png

  4. If you are here on NON-immigrant status or lesser, as far as the Immigration Police are concerned we are all in the same boat in that we all lack SECURITY in our right to RESIDE in Thailand. It makes no difference how we FEEL. The status remains the same. I feel stuff too. What I feel is that immigration rules for those lacking permanent residence status are DESIGNED to make us not feel not too comfortable. I take the message. You don't have to. I do reside in Thailand and have no other non-virtual established residence in any other country. So it's as close as a home that I've got right now. But I can't ignore the legal status REALITY.

You make some valid points mate but that's all part of the dance to me. It is what it is, I don't dwell on it.

  5. Though I earn my money working overseas for part of the year, all my belongings are in my house in Thailand. When I finish my work I return to Thailand, my wife stays in Thailand and my money stays in Thailand. Therefore I call Thailand my home, people may see it different.

you have a reason to call Thailand home because your Thai wife,

Would you feel the same if you were not married?

You're right for the first part but for the latter, who knows. I may have ended up buying a condo or something and being in a similar situation.

  6. I had a european guy try so hard to wind me up, I don't know what his problem was but he had it in for me.

I was with my muay thai instructor and my Brazilian jujitsu instructor, he had no idea who we were, we went and drank elswhere.

    He was quite old to,

This is just it, you just never know who your picking a fight with.

I've never had any problems in Thailand though I've seen 1 or 2.

My idea of a drink is to end up on the floor in fits of laughter rather than in a pool of blood.

  7. Who in their right mind would rent a motorcycle from another foreigner? Especially a foreigner that wants to look even more foreign by wearing a Krathing Daeng singlet and a large number of tattoos, who almost certainly can't read what it says on his t-shirt even though he may have been coming to Thailand for years.

When I walk past people like this guy in Thailand, I just smile and know I am so much better than him - I wouldn't even strike up a conversation with a loser like that in a bar. I only talk to educated expats with university degrees who are country managers and the like, certainly not wannabes like this wimp.

So that's your first question when you meet an expat?

I think you'd find many people wouldn't want to carry on a conversation with you if that's the case.

  8. I was just in Soi 8 an hour ago, I'll have to see what Soi 7 is like tonight. Police should have been there ASAP instead of booking farangs for no licence's on Beach Rd and Jomtien

Oh yes... there was a shooting in the next street. Let's go and have a look and see what that was all about shall we?

By the looks of it he was there much later.
