  1. It is too early to speculate but  an elderly farang wandering  along train tracks at 5 am in a poor state of dress in a Thai province doesnt leave much to the imagination.

I'd be pissed if that's the case -- because a lot of harm could have been caused to those on the train as well in the event of a sudden jam on the brakes.

What i dont understand is why all these ageing farangs are in SE Asia to start with. Why dont they just put up their feet and relax back home and enjoy your favourite wine and cheese .

Why are they wandering around Thailand  including ,it seems, on train lines.

Is that a ridiculous question? ......probably.Posted Image

Not ridiculous mate and I know where you're coming from but to be fair its not like this happens every day. I thought jumping off balconies would be top of the list.

Just for the record, I'm NOT saying this WAS a suicide.

  2. I arrived 2 weeks ago, there was 3 people in front of me at the immigration queue at around midday. My bag came fairly quickly. I used the toilets which were fine.

I've also used the airport link many times which is great.

I will agree with one of the posters in that the duty free does seem to be very expensive.

  3. I always hate attending these types of incidents (9) it is not a nice experience.

    Yea me too (27)
    "...attending these types of incidents..."

Excuse me, but what does this mean? Observing the accident? Attending the funeral?

    Maybe they're paramedics.

  4.

Go to Sakon Nakhon.  Dog meat is sold at all the markets

I rather drop a bomb there instead, and those people that are still alive I can always skinn alive just for fun!!
And how does that make you any better than a dog torturer/butcher?
I'm a dog lover, not a people person!! And the best way to learn grown ups right from wrong, is to let them taste their own medicin. Beside most of this dogs are smartare and could be to use in eldery home/police system/children hospital/army/seeking/for people with handicap or as a family member. How much good are their kidnappare/butcher capable to do in their lifetime?? Hmmmm, why shouldn't I wish them dead? /-I

So you would drop a bomb on a market where they sell dog meat?

This a a daft comment to make.

I'm still waiting for a reply or some sort of explanation to why you would "bomb" a market place in Sakon.

  6. Went back to the chill bar last night to watch the footy. This is sort of opposite the tesco. 3 meals with about 4 big bottles of leo and coke for around 650 baht. Good place, well it was until they turned the LFC game off for the manc game. :D

  7. The street in front of the train station is a different story, from the hospital down to the traffic lights at route 22. Great atmosphere and reasonable prices.

Are you talking about Thong Yai, the road that runs from the railway station to route 22 and passes the new plaza containing Tesco? It is several years since I ventured into a couple of Thai bars along there and it was quiet then. May explore on my next trip.

Yeah that's one mate. I drive past it almost every night now. The wife and I sat in a thai bar and had a bite to eat watching the footy the other day. We've also sat at some of the BBQ places. The atmosphere is a lot better than night and day.

  8. I don't get the temple thing at all. If you are no buddhist, why visit? It is just <deleted> hot, full of locals milling about and whiteys look as out of place as a pervert in a nunnery

Art, history, culture. The uniqueness that every older temple is. The differences between temples of different religions and often special uniqueness of each temple. Temples often built in most beautiful locations of the country. The wealth or poverty of a temple in its religios artifacts. Objects of veneration. Ability to bring you as a non practitioner more closely to understand the nation and Buddhism (Hinduism, Jainism) in a practical context.

Makes a great hike, picnic, photo shoot. Great place to bring a date.

The beauty and simplicty of the message of the Lord Buddha writ large.

Now, if you are speaking of the standard Thai temple seen throughout Thailand, southern Cambodia and South and Central Lao, I might be inclined to agree. Not worth a look. But since there was no distinction made, there is none made in your mind as well.

I'd rather have a beer and a curry

    Thai or Indian?

  9. Udon Nightlife started to die when they closed down the Bars along the front of the old "Complex" (now substantially rebuilt and renamed Central Plaza) and then if that wasn't bad enough they built and opened that Gawd Awful "Night and Day" in Soi Sampan, with 20 or so Bars competing to make the most tuneless noise one could imagine,it really became an effort to go there and punish yourself with the most dismal atmosphere, and sleazy characterless set up,that is depressing enough to make lonely men weep, and suitably deeply depressed go back to their condos, and Hotels still alone and thankful they had the wit not to get involved in something they would surely regret the next day,and that's only the Rip Off Checkbin that usually follows this dreary venture into the souless depths of nothing, posing as entertainment! I left there feeling as if I had been lucky to escape with only a large checkbin, and I do not use the word "escape" lightly.

    Have a nice night!

I would have to agree, it was very dismal.

  10. Well I've just turned up here for about 3 weeks and I can tell you it has much more nightlife than Sakon does.

    Anyone watching the final tomorrow????

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

There's plenty of nightlife there,on top of those already mentioned.Irish Clock and Top Mansion Road has Day and Night girly bars, the rest is farang bars with girls.Nutty Park as mentioned, lots of other bars on the road down to the massive new shopping complex and bars everywhere there although they are Thai style. So difficult to have a beautiful Isaan girl pouring all your drinks for you!Posted Image

They even have a posh wine bar upstairs at the opposite end to the train station.

How anyone can says there's no bars or nightlife is beyond me,you must have very little imagination!

Me thinks you need to read my short and simple post again.

  11. There Our Bren goes, talking it all up again -  "but we don't like being second-best"  - on Merseyside, that is, but seventh best overall...

    What's that, 3 seasons since '87?

Or how about 2 consecutive ones, last year and this year - hopefully (for you) this won't become a trend.
