PM Blasted For Saying Cannabis Policy Yielded Bad Results
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This lame puppet PM is a man of such staggering ignorance, he is a man possessing such a miniscule degree of wisdom, this is a man who is literally the last person in the world who should be leading a nation. The only thing he is fit to do is eat expensive dinners at Michelin starred restaurants, and drink fine wine for the rest of his life, while spending his fortune on indulgence. Leadership? I don't think so. I thought Prayuth was the bottom of the barrel, Sretta is redefining what the bottom of the barrel looks like. Woe is Thailand. Comparing Sretta with Pita, is like comparing Justin Bieber with Beethoven.- 106 replies

I think to say that Move Forward failed to form a government is very misleading. We all know the election was stolen, we all know that Pita was elected fairly, and he was hugely popular, we all know that Prayuth suffered with horrible election results. And we all know that PT struck a deal with the army and installed a lame puppet PM. Do not attempt to call Thailand a democracy, not when elections are stolen, and not when moral rot continues at the highest levels

There's no doubt that the RTP is highly corrupt, there seems to have been an agreement between the agency and the government from the time it was formed back in the 1930s. We will not pay you a living wage, but you have a franchise and you're free to do with it whatever you will, to your heart's content, and to the very edges of your creative mind and abilities, and you will rarely if ever be held to account for it. So asking anyone to attempt to rid the RTP of corruption I believe is a a big ask. What strikes me is that despite the lack of competent policing and despite the corruption within the RTP, Thailand is a relatively law-abiding society, and there seem to be a relatively small percentage of super freaks who commit crazy acts and break the law on a consistent basis. Of course I am excluding traffic from this equation as the vast majority here seem to be lawbreakers in that regard. But since there is little in regard to a deterrent, you put a kind and reasonable Thai person behind a wheel and anything goes.

Passenger charges soar at six major Thai airports
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Another incredibly misleading article. A 700 baht fee being increased to 730 baht is slightly over a 4% increase. Though this is a sign of inflation it is certainly not a sign of soaring fees as the article falsely indicates. It is drama queen journalism. -
Thanks, and yes Russia does have an incredibly rich history of culture, art, ballet, classical music and literature over the past 150 years. Their accomplishments have been impressive, but from a standpoint of culture what have they accomplished in the last 30 or 40 years? Italy had centuries of incredibly rich culture, but now they don't seem to be contributing much either. But at least they have their food, their wine, their women and their amazing fashion and design. What does Russia have? Borscht, bad vodka, oil and gas.

Thanks, that was great, very amusing stuff, you kind of made my day. -
History has a lot to do with how they behave, our culture and our upbringing has a dramatic influence on our personality. They were brought up with horrendous oppression, the vestiges of Leninism, Stalinism, Putinism, and communism. They were brought up to distrust their neighbors, they were brought up to rat out their neighbors, it's just a horrific system and it has a tremendous amount of bearing on how they behave as people. It provides a lot of the answers to their extraordinary lack of civility, their rudeness, and their lack of politeness, and social skills. They just don't care one iota.

Yeah I agree I think Lanta is very underrated, it seems less spoiled than a lot of the other islands, though it's developed it's not developed to a horrendous degree. I had the good fortune of going there during covid and it was bliss. It felt like I had the whole island to myself. I would imagine at other times it's quite delightful, and the beaches were really good. The Andaman is absolutely gorgeous.

10 years of army control, and 9 years of the Prayuth Decimation did not help at all. Shutting the country down for way too long due to covid was another factor. The destruction of democracy is likely an additional factor. There's a lack of consumer confidence around the world, Thailand is not making any of the sacrifices required to attract higher end tourism, and the current policies are downright regressive. This nation stands no chance with this current administration and this do nothing PM.

This is not surprising, not in the least, when you take into account that his party is the anti-progress party, and the anti-reform party, and that in order to assume power his party threw a democratically elected, and far superior PM candidate under the bus, to prevent any progress from taking place. This pathetic man is the opposite of competence, he's the opposite of progress, he is a corporate puppet and a do nothing PM. He assures continued backward movement for the nation. Cannabis is not the most dangerous thing Thailand faces, Sretta, the army, and his party are.

Reforestation seen as only viable smog solution
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This article is quite ridiculous and it suggests something that is likely impossible to do. It's idealistic in the extreme and it talks about a policy that would happen way too little way too late. No, that's not the solution, the solution is to get the sugar growers to stop burning, and the sugar refiners to stop purchasing burned sugar. The government has no interest in doing this because they're virtually owned and controlled by Big Agra, and we have a do-nothing PM. -

Very few people would eat beef, lamb, or pork if they had to slaughter, and dress the animal themselves. And you just can't compare the raising of animals to vegetables, the resources required to create meat for consumption are staggering. -

I am worried about the declining quality of civilization at this stage of the game, anybody who makes an argument that we are advancing as a society I think is really misreading the signs, and far too optimistic. I feel like we're going backwards on a dozen significant levels. If Thais are declining as a culture, they are just an embodiment of the greater whole, which is declining dramatically. -
You're certainly right about the generation of online drama, this netizen thing is so silly, and juvenile and the outrage is so fake and so phony, and so soft. If you're going to show outrage, save the outrage for something real, save the outrage for something that warrants outrage. How about saving the outrage for this ridiculous non-democratic, self appointed government, and continued army control?

As usual you are off point. Posters commenting on the diminished quality of tourism in Thailand in no way is a attempt to make themselves look superior. We could care less about that, it's simply an observation. I suppose if I cared what you thought of me I might be slightly put off by your statement, but since what you say means considerably less than zero to me, my peace of mind is not affected one iota. -

However they might make an scientific observation about the "peculiar hacksaw treatment" one of them participated in, while the other one left his unit completely intact. And wonder, wow what on earth was that all about? -
The vast majority of Russians I have met, seem to have very, very few redeeming qualities. It is no wonder. I can only speak from my experience. Have run into alot of Russians both in the US, and on Phuket and Samui, 98% of them seem to be grumpy, unfriendly and gruff. Some of them are downright hostile. Likely a reflection of a very, very rough culture and environment. So, perhaps it is not a coincidence that the world is not standing up to support them and show them kindness? Just an observation. I think it is a reflection of the current culture. It was destroyed over a century of callous and murderous leadership. Stalin, Lenin, Khruschev, now Putin. They have become somewhat savage and crude. No grace, no finesse, no courtesy. Rather uncivilized. My family was from Russia a few generations back. I used to ask my great-grandmother when she was still around, why they didn't teach us anything about the old country. She would give me this look, and tell me "the reason we never teach you about the place we came from, is because the place we came from was the most horrific country on earth, it was the most destitute, horrible, oppressive place and we were thrilled to finally get out of there and leave it behind. That's why we don't teach you about the old country, the old country doesn't exist for us. There are a multitude of reasons why very few around the world have sympathy for the Russians. Those reasons are not limited to their serial killing, despot, thieving multi billionaire dictator for life. It is more about their nature, their history as ruthless, homicidal Cossack warriors, and their total lack of manners, and class. Not to mention the dignity, class, decency, civility, and social skills decades of Leninism, Stalinism, and now Putinism has stripped them of.

In general Thailand has pretty good infrastructure, the fiber optic here is fantastic, it's very consistent, and it's relatively inexpensive. On a slightly different topic where Thailand really needs to work on its infrastructure is in high speed trains, for both people and cargo, and small regional airports like Hua Hin, which should be handling 40 flights a day.

What on earth are you ranting on about? Financial qualifications that he apparently couldn't meet? Who are you talking about, what do you know about these people that you're talking about? My point was about Thailand's desire to attract high quality tourists, and the low quality tourists that are actually coming. Was there any connection between your reply and the topic that's being discussed? -
Are we in the middle of a hoeflation ?
spidermike007 replied to MrPancake's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Online culture and addiction to tiktok, Instagram, Facebook And other social media platforms are providing opportunities to people who never had these kind of windows open to them before. And unfortunately this world seems to be chock full of ridiculously vulnerable men who fall for the nonsense. Many people just don't seem to have enough common sense to be able to survive in this world, without being scammed out of their money. -

For a long time, for many centuries it seemed like we were moving forward as a civilization. I do not believe that is any longer the case. I think we are moving backwards at a rather dramatic clip, I think people are losing common sense, losing discriminative faculties, and just not displaying the kind of survival instincts one needs to prosper in this world. On top of that, it seems to me that Gen Z is the weakest generation in the history of mankind, so that is not helping matters. -

I blame alot of it on social media. Alot of people just do not understand how corrosive, damaging, degrading and nasty social media can be. There are an infinite number of scammers, predators and fraudsters out there. Most of us have the good sense to avoid them, and not get taken in by their unwillingness to do actual work for a living. It boggles the mind, to consider the number of people who fall for these scams. Someone calls you, or contacts you online, and you send them money? Someone you have never met? Someone you have not researched? What gives? Where are the survival instincts? How is a youngster supposed to have the wisdom to know? Granted being asked to send naked pics to a stranger is a bit much. But, I am sure it happens all the time. There is little chance of these people getting apprehended. Very little. And it is a strong indication of just how bent, warped and misguided contemporary culture and society is, that someone can be considered an idol or celebrity just because they have alot of followers on Tik tok, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Personally, I consider social media to be the most corrosive and degenerate force in culture today, and they can be downright dangerous, on multiple levels. -
