I rarely have these problems with cabs. Only near Nana. And only late at night. Sometimes takes a few cabs to get one that will use the meter. Usually, not an issue. And normally the cabbies are pretty nice, if you treat them kindly. It is a tough job.

Three-Month Burn Ban Put in Place to Curb Haze, Wildfire
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Really? Prayuth is so indifferent to the problems crop burning causes, that he won't even mention it, and deliberately obfuscates by calling it wildfires. How disingenuous. But, that is just who he is. There is a very simple solution to this problem. If the authorities were interested in solutions. The burning has to stop. There are alternatives, to this 19th century technique of burning after the sugar cane harvest. Either the government starts to encourage farmers to switch to more environmentally friendly crops, or they start to penalize farmers for burning. This heinous burning, is leading to a tremendous degree of environmental degradation, and alot of lung disease. So here is what I propose- 1. Fine the farmers 5,000 baht for a first offense, and give them a stern warning, that burning is now prohibited, and the second fine will be very harsh. 2. For a second offense, fine the farmer 100,000 baht, and warn them that if the burning continues, their land will be confiscated. 3. On the 3rd offense, confiscate their land. Period. No questions. No legal proceeding or appeals on the part of the farmers. Allow others to come in and purchase the land at a fair price, with the caveat that sugar is prohibited as a crop to be grown on that land. The news would travel faster than the toxic smoke, and farmers would change their ways overnight, and move into the 21st century. Then they can move on to tackle the sale of diesel vehicles, and the government's enthusiastic support of such. It is inane in this day and age. Most nations are moving away from diesel for good reasons. When they are not well maintained, they foul the air, with large, nasty particles. And who properly maintains their vehicle here? Lastly they can convert all of the 10 remaining diesel and coal fired power plants. Thailand has already done a very admirable job with renewable power plants. There are over 50 powered by hydro, geothermal, wind, solar and biomass. That is impressive. The government should offer incentives, for the farmers to switch crops. This is 2021. Rice and sugar worked in previous centuries. Now, they do not make any sense. Too labor intensive, too much degradation of the land, water, air, and resources. Let's get with the times. Let us move forward. -
Biden healthy, vigorous and fit for job, says doctor

Hopefully enough people are just sick of old farts running the show. Here, there, everywhere. Who are the viable alternatives, one wonders? Are there any? Gabbard, Scott, who? -
Prayut goes on defensive in second day of censure debates
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
He simply cannot get enough of the power, money, butt kissing and adulation. If he had a shred of decency and compassion prior to becoming PM, it is all gone now. He was and is a terrible choice, without a nanogram of leadership ability. -

Trump is not even a factor anymore. He has erased himself from contention, and continues to shoot himself in the foot by demonstrating his 13 year old juvenile maturity. Most previous Trump supporters I know despise the man. It would be old man Joe, vs. a much younger GOP frontrunner. -

I believe there would be a zero percent chance of Biden being re-elected. He is not a bad president. Just not remarkable and way, way too old. Harris is a disaster. Few like her and she seems to have been in way over her head, from the beginning. -

As a centrist democrat, I do not think he is fit to run for a 2nd term, and should step aside to allow more youthful candidates to emerge. The sooner the better. De Santis cannot be allowed to win the next election. He is a borderline extremist. -
Prayut goes on defensive in second day of censure debates
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The people have to make a statement, the people have to remove the 250 crony senators, and the people have to find a way to turn this nation around, and drag it back from the stone age of dinosaur leadership. Prayuth, Pratin, Anutin, and Phiphat, must go. These guys are toxic, corrosive, corrupt, ineffective, incompetent, untrustworthy, very bad for the nation, and virtually assure a rotten future for the nation, a drop to 87th place in GDP, and increasing irrelevance. They have already turned Thailand from the tiger of SE Asia, to a sorry, rabid, whiny, anemic alley cat.- 37 replies

Unlike in Thailand, in the US fleeing from the scene of a crime, much less one that causes death, is taken very seriously. Perhaps she will learn something from this. Perhaps years in prison will help her develop some maturity and substance as a human being. Perhaps it will help her to be less obsessed with herself and allow her to evolve into a person of care and compassion. Maybe.

The nation needs to figure out a way to dissolve the senate, and get rid of the super corrupt army appointed senators. Until that happens, there is little hope for the future.

Does anyone remember all the controversy he stirred up four or five years ago? He went from being chief of immigration, the being fired and banished. Then he re-appered, was put on some police committee, then dismissed. Then he became chief of police. Go figure. It was the latest turn of events for Surachate’s career. The immigration chief was abruptly removed from the force in April 2019 and transferred to an obscure civilian post under the Prime Minister’s Office, though he remained largely missing from the public until the shooting earlier this month. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/politics/2020/01/27/big-joke-left-country-days-after-govt-warning/ From 4 years ago: The former limelight-loving chief of immigration is having a hard time holding down a job this year. In April, he was removed from his high-profile post atop the Immigration Bureau without explanation. He was later removed from the force and reduced to a civil servant in the bureaucracy. https://coconuts.co/bangkok/news/joked-around-former-thai-immigration-boss-pulled-from-new-job/

Which hospital? Sounds like BH. One of the costliest in Thailand. Many insurance companies are no better than the New Jersey mafia. Total crooks.

Honda PCX: Pattaya to Koh Chang
spidermike007 replied to loginwith's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
I have done road trips on smaller bikes, and found it brutal on my body. If you are young and hearty, go for it. I would definitely wear a good quality helmet, with a good shield, and find good rain gear. No, a 7/11 raincoat will not work. A good raincoat and rain pants would make a big difference. -
I consider him to be a phony. How many of those he has very publicly gone after, have been convicted and are in prison? Really. Very few. It is all a big show, meant to deceive the naive into thinking something is actually being done. He is a PR stooge. If you really feel otherwise, cite some examples of the results of his work. He was outrageously xenophobic as head of immigration. I believe to the point where he was not only dumped, but exiled. He became a huge liability, and said some highly ignorant stuff. How he was revived is anyone's guess. I would be totally supportive of a real crime fighter. But, I don't support imposters and publicity hounds.

This terrible leader has led Thailand backwards, at an astonishing pace. They still have not learned much. This was a great learning opportunity for Phiphat, and the other goombahs. Obstacles and tragedies can be learning experiences, for mature men and women. And they can offer a path toward improvement, and progress. But, apparently that does not apply to these authorities and so called leaders. Phiphat (and Prayuth) you have made history. 100 years from now, in the hospitality industry classes at the university level, they will still be teaching about you, as the men who presided over the once great industry of tourism, the men who helped destroy the industry millions depended upon. They will talk about you when the students are visiting the hollowed out shells, of once formerly great hotels, as the men who helped precipitate the demise and decline of Thailand, from the tiger of SE Asia (and at one time the 21st largest economy in the world) to a whiny, sickly, skinny alley cat, on it's last legs. And on par with Burundi, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Yemen, and Sierra Leone, after it has dropped to the 97th position in the world.

Pol. Gen. Surachet said Mrs Tabthim was sorry for what had happened and police will now coordinate with the US authorities to extradite her. Fortunately, in the US sorrow is rarely taken into account, when it comes to sentencing. I hope she is locked up for a very long time. She richly deserves this. She is a small coward.
