Trump wants his own parade - literally
spidermike007 replied to ronnie50's topic in Political Soapbox
Sometimes just to avoid that conversation of astonishment and bewilderment about our beloved leader, I say I'm from Canada, I'm a Saskatchewani and I came out of Regina. -
Beards are so incredibly tired, and I'm just waiting for the day when that ridiculous fad passest. There are a very small percentage of men that look good with a beard, and the vast majority look really silly, unless they're deliberately going for that Oregon Lumberjack look, or an Alaska mountain man!

Trump wants his own parade - literally
spidermike007 replied to ronnie50's topic in Political Soapbox
When I meet somebody new these days, and they ask where I'm from, I say I'm from America but I despise the creep, and people immediately seem to relax and find some amusement in that. -
You won the award for most inane post of the day. Your trophy is on its way.

Most people around the world hate him and the work he is doing. Don is making America less relevant by the day. -
China Accuses U.S. of COVID-19 Origins in Escalating War of Words
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Trump and his current policies are a wet dream for China. He is making them look like the heroes and they will end up gaining far more influence out of this ridiculous trade war, than the US. We don't know exactly where the virus originated but we do know that Dr. Fauci was a military scientist for decades, and was very highly involved with the Wuhan lab. -
During the first Trump Administration he became rather infamous for throwing one official after another under the bus, after they publicly disagreed with him or some of his policy. We see the first hints of that happening now, it appears that Hegseth is 30 to 60 days from being fired. His two top men at the Dept. of Defense just quit. Now, Trump is just waiting so that it won't appear that the Democrats are forcing him out and Waltz has just been let go for that horrific National Security blunder that he and Hegseth committed together. Is this just the beginning of both the firings and the mass exodus from this hapless administration? National security adviser Mike Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, will be leaving their posts in the Trump White House, according to multiple sources familiar with their departure. They are expected to leave Thursday, sources say. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Journalist Mark Halperin first reported the departures. In March, Waltz came under scrutiny after he put together a Signal chat and mistakenly included The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg, disclosing discussions with top national security officials about plans for a military strike on Houthi targets in Yemen. Goldberg published his account, and he initially omitted operational details, but after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe denied any classified information had been shared on the chat, Goldberg published that information, too, which included the timing of the strikes and the weapons packages used. After Waltz admitted behind closed doors the authenticity of the reporting, White House officials debated whether he should resign, but Waltz never made the offer, and Mr. Trump did not ask him to step down at the time. Publicly, President Trump signaled his support for Waltz by calling him "a good man" who "learned a lesson." One source familiar with the situation at the National Security Council said the president thinks sufficient time has passed since the Signal incident that Waltz and Wong's departures can be framed as part of a reorganization. The president has been hesitant to oust Waltz over the perception that doing so could be seen as bending to outside pressure. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-mike-waltz-alex-wong/

Tourism Thailand Vows to End Dual Pricing Amid Growing Tourist Backlash

Incorrect. Perhaps 10% of the time it works. Years ago I heard that was an actual law. But, the park employees ignore it and change stupid fees to "us outsiders". -

Looks like the young, unelected PM is living in a Trump like alternate universe. Delusion can be a very powerful thing. Nobody is convinced. Sounds like alot of malarkey. -
Tourism Thailand Vows to End Dual Pricing Amid Growing Tourist Backlash
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Tourism Minister Sorawong Thienthongn will work on this for two weeks, then it will be forgotten. The dual pricing, especially at National parks is beyond obnoxious. 30 baht vs. 300 baht? Please. All that should be required is the showing of a pink card or a Thai DL to prove you live here. I stopped supporting the parks long ago.- 295 replies

My first suggestion would be to stop shopping at 7-Eleven, there are far better places to get decent values on food products. I definitely see some inflation in Thailand, however I'm back in the US right now and despite what the fraudulent officials in the government keep telling us inflation is at about 22%. Every single time I come back here every 6 months, every single one of my staples is 10 to 15% higher, so don't talk to me about a 3.1% official inflation rate, that is pure nonsense and total fiction. I don't eat magnesium ore.

Nobody's going to get addicted by taking a medication one time, unless it's pure heroin or fentanyl.

I seriously doubt it. That would require an effective police department and highway patrol that cared at least one iota, which they don't. So, no policing on the roads and highways means no deterrent and no huge fines. And the tragedy continues. This is what is needed. When I was in Italy I saw ambulances literally ramming cars out of the way, using front bumpers like shown below, and causing great damage to the vehicles that were blocking the path, and then just moving on. What a deterrent that must be.

Trump has caused this devastation, and destruction of the economy with his very reckless and herky jerky tariff policies. There should be no surprise that we're heading toward a recession and the economy is going to see huge damage. The man is a one man wrecking crew. A numskull. A circus clown. Hopefully his supporters will see what a fool he is, sometime soon.

Travel Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm
spidermike007 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
A lot of truth in that article. For many of us who live in Thailand we enjoy a very good life and a high quality of life for the limited income that we have, but for tourists it's a completely different thing, and there's no question that Thailand is not the country that it used to be. The government has had ample opportunity to fix many of the problems but their apathy and their lack of Interest is a rather astonishing and very sad thing to witness. I'm hoping that tourism continues to drop because that will dramatically increase the quality of the experience for the tourists who remain.- 196 replies

Donald Trump is still winning, one hundred days in
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Saint Donald. Total revisionist history, a complete reformation of his entire career, and a total erasure of his past crimes, moral terpitude, and a total and complete willingness to overlook a lifetime of moral bankruptcy. I do have some friends that will come right out and say the man is a butthead, he's an idiot, and he's an absolute clown, but I like his policies. Those are the Republicans I admire. -

I've had a lot of dental work done in Thailand, and it's far better than the US, at 1/5th the price. -
Donald Trump is still winning, one hundred days in
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
In his first 100 days back in office, Donald Trump has made a strong case that his second term will be by far the worst presidential term in US history. So many of his actions are mind-boggling and heart-wrenching. So many seem powered by ignorance and incoherence, by capriciousness and callousness. With their sociopathic desire to disrupt anything and everything, the presidentand his top henchman, Elon Musk, seem eager to pulverize the foundations of our government, our democracy, our alliances and our notions of truth. In just 100 days, Trump’s new term has shown itself to be the most lawless and authoritarian in US history. The most dangerous part of Trump’s agenda is his war against our democracy and constitution – defying judges’ orders, deporting people without due process, pardoning hundreds of January 6 criminals, calling to impeach judges who rule against him, suggesting he will run for a third term, using federal agencies to take vengeance against his perceived enemies, and banning books from military libraries. Underlining his contempt for the rule of law, Trump has even talked about disappearing US citizens to foreign prisons where they could be locked up for ever. For anyone who cares about democracy and basic liberties, this is Defcon 1 stuff. Trump’s economic stewardship has been so inept that many economists are predicting a recession this year, with some saying it has already begun – a stunning contrast to early this year when they said there was no way the US would slide into recession anytime soon. Consumer and business confidence have plummeted. With such an erratic, economically illiterate man at the US’s helm, global investors are souring on the US and the dollar as never before. Nervous bond investors are asking whether the US will make good on its debts – a fear that has caused interest rates to jump, hurting millions of Americans. Convinced that Trump is dragging the US down, not lifting it up, many investors are questioning the dollar’s primacy and whether it should remain the world’s reserve currency – a privileged position that gives the US many advantages. Trump has in effect downgraded the US and the dollar. Trump seems more myopic than Mr Magoo. More than any president in memory, Mr. Make America Great Again is pushing policies that will harm our country long-term. His executive order to ban federal agencies from using paper straws deserves a spot atop the Pantheon of Presidential Pettiness. Trump has felt a perverse need to trash the US because his insatiable ego demands that he be able to claim, however falsely, that he made America great again. It’s hard to deny, though, that second-term Trump is making America less great. He’s taking a wrecking ball to our democracy, rule of law, alliances and scientific research – the list goes on. Trump 2.0 means decline, not greatness. After Trump’s first term, a poll of 154 historians ranked Trump as the worst US president ever, even behind Buchanan. But with Trump unbound, with the guardrails off, with no adults in the room, Trump’s second term is shaping up to be far worse than his “worst-in-history” first term.
