Thai Casinos: Haven or Hazard for ‘Grey’ Chinese Money?
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Casinos are a very bad idea here, nothing to do with morality, everything to do with the inconsistency and undependility of the subsequent administrations. Like next door in Cambodia billions of dollars could be invested in these casinos only to have the next clown administration vote it down and then you have more abandoned buildings and huge fortunes lost. -
It is like gliding on a cloud, with the stock suspension. I did replace the cheap stock tires with Pirelli Angel tires, and that made quite a difference in terms of traction, but the bike is incredibly comfortable and the seat is ridiculous. It's almost like a living room couch!

I only buy electronics and televisions from big box stores where they offer warranty service and they offer recourse in the event of issues. With a Lazada vendor it's like buying from MBK, if you need the service you have no idea if you're going to get it. I have purchased things on Lazada where the vendor would not stand behind them just a few months later. I only buy small ticket items on Lazada from now on.

Minister launches emergency plan as deadly dust chokes Thailand
spidermike007 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
How long have you lived here? How often have we seen promises like this? These administrations are infamous for pledges, declarations, proclamations and promises. Few are even remembered, much less followed up upon two weeks later. Feel free to cite some environmental promises that were followed up on, if you can. Otherwise, we are discussing a staggering level of incompetence and indifference toward their land, water and the common man. There is a very simple solution to this problem. If the authorities were interested in solutions. The burning has to stop. There are alternatives, to this 19th century technique of burning after the sugar cane harvest. Either the government starts to encourage farmers to switch to more environmentally friendly crops, or they start to penalize farmers for burning. This heinous burning, is leading to a tremendous degree of environmental degradation, and alot of lung disease. So here is what I propose- 1. Fine the farmers 5,000 baht for a first offense, and give them a stern warning, that burning is now prohibited, and the second fine will be very harsh. 2. For a second offense, fine the farmer 100,000 baht, and warn them that if the burning continues, their land will be confiscated. 3. On the 3rd offense, confiscate their land. Period. No questions. No legal proceeding or appeals on the part of the farmers. Allow others to come in and purchase the land at a fair price, with the caveat that sugar is prohibited as a crop to be grown on that land. The news would travel faster than the toxic smoke, and farmers would change their ways overnight, and move into the 21st century. China-Tour Cancellations Shake Thailand's Tourism for New Year
spidermike007 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The Chinese are being discouraged from traveling outside of the country by their horrendous leadership, and they are suffering from economic hardship at the moment, the real estate market has collapsed leaving trillions in debt, and their appetite for travel outside of the nation is diminishing anyway. Add to it craziness in Thailand, bizarre and strange scams and events, and thankfully we will see less Chinese tourists around. Very few of us are going to miss them. Now, if only the Russians would leave.- 18 replies

Thailand Opts for Gripen Jets Over F-16s in Defence Upgrade
spidermike007 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
As an American I can say it's absolutely delightful to see any country turn down a choice of American weapons or equipment. Anytime the US military industrial complex is spurned it's a step in the right direction. -
Isaan tamarind vendor fined for nude model marketing tactics
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
These kind of things must be nipped in the bud, these tactics could lead to the moral degradation of the nation, could compel people to act an immoral fashion, and could tear apart the very fabric of a nation famed for its purity of mind. -
An incredibly simplistic approach to a very complex problem there is a reason why wealthy tourists are avoiding Thailand, and have been for some years now, there are a few here but very few. Lower luxury taxes to 20%. This would help Thailand to attract some wealthy tourists again. Most wealthy people love to spend real money while on vacation. Contrary to what you think, wealthy foreigners are NOT dumb. They do not enjoy paying for stunningly over priced items, and will wait for their next trip to London, Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, Nassau, or Dubai to buy a handbag at what it should cost, rather than what you think foolish people will pay. 1. Improve traffic safety. 2. Improve immigration service. 3. Get rid of the toxic army. 4. Address corruption. 5. Pay attention to air quality. 6. Stop treating tourists like dogs. This applies to the govt., not the people. That is just a start. I could go on for days. Do not expect the wealthy tourists to return. They come here once, if they come at all. And they do not return for a dozen good reasons like the lack of top quality service, expertise, shopping, English skills, sommelier service, fairly priced world class wine, high standard F & B, and the list goes on.

Democracy has failed the US,maybe it's time for a King
spidermike007 replied to SiSePuede419's topic in Political Soapbox
What a lot of Trump followers don't seem to acknowledge is that we did get a king. This man will pay total disregard to law and order, he will pay total disregard to any to any International agreements that the US has already engaged in, and will behave like a out of control renegade. Exactly as a very bad king would behave. -
Everybody seems to have a different opinion about family. I feel very fortunate to have had a very good and healthy relationship with my folks while they were still around, and to have a very close relationship with all three of my sisters? For me it makes life a lot richer. In addition I have a close relationship with my Thai woman's family who are absolutely wonderful people.

Do you have any sense of comparison between the ADV 350 and the Honda Forza 350? I have the latter, and I like it very much, but I love the design of the ADV 350 and have been quite curious about it.
-
Maybe. But easier here.
-
Try the Honda ADV 160. In my opinion, it is a far better bike. Better performance, braking, suspension, etc.
-
Very easy. If you have some game, if you have a great sense of humor, and are able to make them laugh and feel relaxed, if you are decent looking, and dress decently, and are well groomed, it can be quite easy here. Generally, Thai woman are very comfortable with their femininity, with flirting, and open to talking with someone who approaches them, very unlike women in the West, these days. Of course, it also depends on who you pursue. If you are going after wealthy women, who are wearing $3,500 outfits, you will likely get turned down. If you are in your 30's, Thailand is your oyster. There are hundreds of thousands of good looking, younger Thai women who are open to being with a foreigner, as long as he is financially stable. 98% of women want that stability. You simply need to be very assertive, have some game, hopefully have a minimal amount of bling, and a great sense of humor. If you can get them to laugh within a few moments of striking up a conversation with them, you are on your way. Gals who work in hotels, restaurants, retail stores, etc. Stay away from the beach areas, and you will be fine finding a real civilian. Step up to the plate often, and just approach as many strangers are you can. Make a sport of it. Also, I have friends who use Tinder, and in Bangkok 98% of the gals on Tinder are civilians, who are looking for a friend, a date or some romance. Many of them are highly successful, open to a foreigner, and do not have time for a relationship, from what I am told by a few difference guys.

Uyghur detainees in Thailand fear imminent deportation to China
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
According to the widely used, although somewhat hard-to-find-credit-for figures, a heart is worth around $1 million in the US. Livers come in second, worth about $557,000 and kidneys cost about $262,000 each. https://medicalfuturist.com/how-much-is-life-worth/ -
Earth’s Hottest Year: 2024 Breaks Global Temperature Records
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The sceptic will argue that anything we do could not possibly influence the climate, or effect the atmosphere. The planet is simply too large, and the population is too small to have any effect. Let the ships dump whatever they want into the ocean. The ocean is simply too large for anything we do to damage it. This frees them to buy as many plastic bottles as they please, drive filthy diesel vehicles, and behave as if nothing effects anything. It's not us. It is just a cycle. We are not responsible. -
Anutin Demands Severe Penalties for District Chief Corruption
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is just more total and complete nonsense from Anutin, who does not have a sincere bone in his body, and his rarely ever in his career has done anything to benefit the people of Thailand other than the ganja initiative. Of course this is just a silly dream, everybody's making so much money with this bizarre patronage system, when hundreds of thousands of baht are being paid for a low position and millions are being paid for a high position. The fortunes that are being made and the illegal and illicit funds that are being collected are astonishing and shameful. Every single department in Thailand is corrupt from the local, to the state government, to the federal government. You cannot get a position within the government at any level, the police, customs or immigration without buying that position. Everybody knows that and fortunes are being made on a daily basis. My woman's sister-in-law just paid 200,000 baht for a lowly 10,000 baht a month position in their local village. It's so common. -

I'll bet China can't wait to have them returned so they can harvest their organs and sell them for a small fortune.
