  1. My husband and I just returned from Bali. We found a great little house to rent near Ubud.

It was call Green T house and this real cool guy named Tony designed this fantastic mini- eco resort. Everything was low impact on the environment etc.

Anyway, Our house was only 1400 baht a night and included a small but complete kitchen (My husband is a chef). There was even lemon grass growing in the garden!

Every morning some delightful Balinese girls would come cook us anything we wanted for breakfast. It had a pool and fantastic views of the rice fields.

    I can't wait to go back! :o

PM if you want to know anything else. HH

    here

  2. I know you were asking about Thailand. But if you ever find yourself on a visa run to Penang, Malaysia- Check out Gurney Plaza. The shops on the lower floors are expensive but there is a good "Reject Shop" upstairs and an East India shop (a cheaper version of British India) The quality, styles and prices were impressive compared to what you see here in Thailand.

It seems our sisters in the south have more western figures (East Indian) or at least some better clothes that fit us. They also have a great selection for the western man with many big sizes. My Thai husband had a hard time finding anything!

And to you, Alex. I have seen far more overweight farang men here in the LOS then then farang women. I have yet to see one farang girl/woman who weighs twice the size of her partner. :o

I usally see it, the other way around.

Any way, In the last 3 years I’ve picked up a few real nice pieces in Penang and then had them copied here in Thailand by my friends who are tailors.

All in all, Gurney is a great place to enjoy for a day.

    :D

  3. Dose anyone out there know anyone who’s had a successful reversal surgery in Thailand?

If so, where, and by what doctor?

We want to start a family, but my husband was sniped only months after leaving the monastery. There was not much sex-ed training when he left after being a fully ordained monk for 10 years. So he opted for the snip, not knowing anything. :o Its been 11 years since the snip. thanks for your help! HH

  4. I’m bringing in 3 computers to donate my local High school in a tsunami-affected area.

There is software loaded on the computers (Windows and OS-X, etc)

Accompanied by the original CDs with serial numbers. Does anyone know if this is possible and what kind of duty I might have to pay when I pick it up in Phuket? The computers are 2nd hand. They are arriving by DHL from the US.

    Thanks!

  5. "Me" my neighbor is 2 1/2 years old. His father was killed by the tsunami and now his family is living in the temporary housing "Baan Moo" on the hill.

We took "Me" into the local doctor and the prognosis is not very good. She gave him a 40/60 chance.

He was born with serious glaucoma and now its infected since the tsunami. We got some meds to help the infection but I've offered to take him to see the best eye specialist in Bangkok. Can any one recommend the best hospital?

The doctor of-course gave me a long list last night. But does any one have a personal experience?

    thanks

  6. Thanks DN

Next Sat. 4 of us (2 teachers from Krabi and me and my friend) are going up to school to reformat and reinstall windows 98. As a start.

But we really need some one who can be there- and possibly continued support.

  7. I just got one and LOVE IT!

My other Mac was destroyed when the wave crashed through my house. But thats Another story :o

Apple care doesn’t cover tsunamis!! :D

What I wanted to say is the great service and support I have received from cg computers in Penang.

I’ve now bought two Mac from them over the last 3 years and they are really helpful and their English is super.

  8. I live in Krabi Province. My town in Ko Lanta was hit hard by the tsunami

I’m looking for (1) Thai or Farang network/tech person. Preferably from Krabi or Trang Province. I need help in fixing and maintaining a network at the only High School here on Ko Lanta. It’s a computer Lab with 9 semi-working PC’s. It’s a very poor school with most, if not all of the students affected by the tsunami in some way or another.

If you know anybody wanting to volunteer (for the network help ONLY) -Please PM me back. Thanks

  9. Hello-

I read this here a while back, “TG are carrying relief material to BKK then HKT free of charge”

I live in Krabi Province, and I’m looking for some help in getting boxes of tsunami aid and school supplies for tsunami victims brought in from overseas. (USA)

Has any body done this or know whom to contact? I’ve searched a lot on the web to no avail- nothing on the TG website. I have friends ready to deliver a few boxes by next week to the Airport in SFO or LAX. I’m not an official aid person- just a girl trying to help my Thai neighbors (over 40 families living on my street are displaced) and the local school. If you know of any airline or courier numbers could you please post them?

I’m also looking for (1) Thai or Farang network/tech person. Preferably from Krabi or Trang Province. We need help in fixing and maintaining a network at the only High School here on Ko Lanta. It’s a computer Lab with 9 semi-working PC’s. It’s a very poor school with most, if not all of the students affected by the tsunami in some way or another.

If you know anybody wanting to volunteer (for the network help ONLY) -Please PM me back. Thanks!

  10. Hello,

Has anyone seen any cool looking Shoji or Thai Style screens around.

Perhaps Chattachuk in Bangkok? or in any larger furinture stores.

I live down in the south, know any place where I might get some built custom?

    Thanks in advance! HH

  11. As I am packing my bags for a trip "home". Im wondering about the prospects of a visa for my fiance next year. After following this site for over a year I realized that our chances were very small as my partner is self employed. :D

What "other" documentation would help in obtaining a tourist visa to the USA?

We have been living in the LOS for almost 3 years together and I understand all the important rules. But what about the little things?

Bills - pictures- joint property? What seemed to help the most for you girls?

And what can I do now to prepare?

It seems that on this forum 99% are men trying to get visa's for their G/f. What are the differences for the Farang Gals? if any? :o

    Thanks HH

  12. Ive used Siam Commercial and requested 100,000 B to be withdrawn on a visa card. The bank calls a (Bangkok) Visa agent and get an authorization number, within 5 mins. I was handed over the money. I was charged 200 baht by SCB. My bank at home charges the usual ATM rate. Which is free for up to 10 transactions a month. And you get a nice receipt, easier than saving all those little white slips of paper. Good Luck

  13. Hello!

It appears that some other members on this fourm are in the process or recently completed building a new home.

I am curious. What did you build and what did it cost you?

Of-course you can be general and Im not really interested in the price of the land but the building it self. So come one, tell me...

    All braggers welcome :o

    Thanks, Hello Hello

  14. Once I made it past 17 years old, I LOVED being tall!

I never minded dating men shorter than me. It's all the same laying down.... :D

My love here in Thailand is probably only 5'8". I think he likes having a tall farang on his arm. Similar to the Thai ladies whom prefer a bigger Farang man.

Rainman in your picture you dont look 6'2" :o

Seriously, RM is your pretty lady tall for Thai standards?

  15. I agree, Men are bigger down here. But I'm 6 feet tall so finding a taller one than me is doubtful.

I dont mind if my man is a bit smaller Im used to after all these years. But I dont wear my heels any more. Never figured out to walk in them anyway! :o

But I too, have never seen a lets say 50- 60- 70-ish Homer simpson-ish farang ladies here with any young looking Thai man. NEVER. Sorry Blue a 40ish woman and 30 ish man really isn't that age much of a difference at least not to me. Not that there's anything wrong with it -I just aint seen it.

You go SBK. I too, am older that mine by 4 years.... Doesn't bother us a bit!

  16. Ps. I forgot to mention.

I did ask a Lawyer in the US before I began my process, and he said that what ever country that your are in as long as you follow the rules/laws of THAT country it is legal.

Of course if she gets sticky over assets, A no-fault can't be an option. Good Luck

  17. I am a US citizen, my husband and I got married in Mexico -100% Legally- (He too is a US citizen)

After 8 years I wanted to part. But we had no proof of our marriage in the states (we never felt it was necessary to register it in the US - We didn't want to send in the $25! :D )

But I filed for divorce anyway. So I have a divorce on file in California- but no marriage on file. I didn't even have to show anyone the marriage certificate. They took my word for it.

    No one seems to mind.

He is remarried, so it was perfectly legal. :o

Divorce can be easy and cheaply drafted in California.

If both parties file a MSA. That says you have nothing and want nothing from each other ( or you agree on what ever and sign it) . I signed it ..I even drafted it. Then i took that piece of paper to a legal clerk and filed for a NF divorce. It cost me about $200.

    6 months later-.. finished.

But- If you live here why not just go down to the Amphur? If of-course she agrees.

  18. Ive been reading this post for a while and I have to agree when reading allot of posts on thai visa, I do feel allot of the men "slag" off Farang girls. But allot do not. I don't take it personally as I think the Farang man has a much different experience living here than I do. ( I must imagine it is great with all these gorgeous ladies flirting with you)

But as a farnag girl living here, I dont see any of that in real life. I came here by choice to volunteer teach and I fell in love with this country and a wonderful Thai man. And he loves me because I am different.

He is also very kind. Ive never had a man take care of me so well. Its the little things that he does for me everyday that has taught me more about this wonderful country and culture. And he has taught me through watching him, how to take care of him as well.

I come from the west where women are not taught to do any of theses things anymore. And the tendency is to look down upon those who do. I know, I was one of those. Because western culture has told us that is what is right. Woman have to be strong, self supporting blah- blah. But here I am living halfway around the world from my home and getting a whole new perspective on life. Now I cant change who I am ( and I am most thankful that I have a good education and had a successful career) but I am extremely happy that I am learning the simple characteristic of treating others with much more care and compassion.

Its never to late to learn, Just need the right teacher :o

  19. Where dose one buy a ( scratcher) card to get minutes for a Wireless connection at the Airport? I tried to set it up on line ( last year) with my visa card but I was blocked out. :o

When I was in Phuket I asked around some of the usual places and all I got was blank stares. Could someone please explain the process to a newbie like me?

    Thanks. Hellohello :D

  20. Thanks Ill try it!.. I forgot to mention I'm on a Mac (OS 10.3) . I downloaded a copy of Xten SIP phone. Which is compataible with Mac's but a wee bit confusing setting it up. But I wont give up yet! Anyone out there into Macs?
