  1. The car ferrys runs everyday all year 7- 10pm. if there is an emergency they’ll crank it up too. The long lines are also due to the big high and low tides- the larger boats cant get around as well in low tide. Nothing official has been announced about the bridge, but we are hopeful. :o

  2. Thai Cuisine is just shut for the season. Reggae house- done-finished- The Swedes have taken over with some ugly villas.

    my favorite places on Lanta:

    Andaman Sunflower Resort Phrae Ae

Red Snapper rest. in Phrae Ae

Lantalongtail out of Lanta Old town

in Krabi check out Phanom Bencha Mountain Resort- Great getaway spot. cheers!

  3. A Yachtie friend tells me there is shop in Phuket that sells 2nd hand Bedding Supply's. (I know 2nd hand sheets sounds a bit strange :o ) Perhaps it's a Hotel Supply Outlet store, I’m not sure.

    Anyone have any ideas?

HomePro I know has real nice stuff but I’m looking for something cheaper.

    Thanks!

  4. If your on Ko Lanta. Dont miss RED SNAPPER in Phra Ae Village http://www.redsnapper-lanta.com/ great tappas.

in Krabi town down along Chow Fa Pier ( the old pier) it a great Thai seafood place- everybody knows it, but the name has slipped my mind. its open for lunch and evenings, its very popular usually spilling out on the street. next to the night food stalls.

  5. 3 years - not too bad. But it seems lots of farang ladies married to Thais- live on islands or out in the sticks. Which in my experience means small amphers have no clue how to start this. I believe sbk has experienced this allot. Anyone know of any farang women who’ve successfully attained citizenship? HH

oh, and MCL did you make a will at the amphur?

  6. Sorry for my delay, I was out of the country. Thanks SBK and Nienke.

I was hoping some of the "experts" whom post on this forum could post here, rather than me contacting everybody privately. Perhaps it will be beneficial to others?

If I may, I will begin with what we come up with so far:

Presently we are starting-up with about 10 people with different levels of expertise (including Web designers, Tv folks, Artists). Our first step is to get some funding rolling so we can hopefully start some neutering.

We’ve had a meeting, have a website drafted and a URL. We plan on using collection cups around the whole island; we have a preferred Vet and a temporary shelter for surgery (over low season only).

Presently, our Or Bor Tor is sending a Vet for free once a week for the locals; we are utilizing his services as much as possible. (Obviously they saw there was a need)

One of our biggest hurdles, I feel, is that we are all business owners and are busy over our very short 6-month High Season. Although if all is in place, I feel we could collect plenty of funding for the next year.

All of your thoughts and comments are appreciated! THANK YOU, HH

  7. Not floating Villa's on Lanta, but pole houses, done up Villa style. Like Ko Chang. Many restaurants and shops as well in both Saladan and Lanta Old Town.

The public land is registered (and managed) by the Government's Costal Commission. Annual fees of about 200 baht a year, for permission/rent. Tambian baan's and all services (phone, power, water) are offered. The building should be made of wood; fines are issued for use of too much cement.

After the Tsunami, Koh Lanta's Old Town received secure tenure in partnership with the district.

"Koh Lanta became the first test-case for an unconventional kind of participatory, post-disaster coastal planning process. CODI, along with a special planning team and with support from the UN, facilitated a process in which all the local groups (fishing communities, civic groups, district officials, local businessmen and NGOs) sat together, talked about what they would like to do and developed a collective master plan for the island. Unlike other villages on the Andaman Sea, the land rights are more secure since the disaster."

  8. It’s more like 4.5 hours to Lanta- with the car ferries. (2)

I know some good (public) mini van deals -PM Me- but not as comfortable at your own car.

Mango bar was closed in May.

The best Thai restaurant in Lanta Old Town called "beautiful” is always open - nice ambiance being over-the-sea.

Many places on Lanta will begin to re-open in July/August.

  9. My husband and I are coming through Suvarnabhumi airport at different times- I am wondering if he drops a bag at left luggage can I pick it up a few days later? Of course we would give them copies of both passports.

Is this feasible- If not, can any one recommend a place to leave a piece of luggage for a few days near by? THANKS!

  10. I’m sorry to hear about your friend.

But I can share a similar story that might offer some hope. My now Thai husband about 15 years ago suffered a stroke - due to HBP. He collapsed and was rushed to hospital in Phitsanulok. Luckily his employer had insurance (AIA) and they flew the best doctor up from Bangkok- They operated on him and put in 3 "plugs” on his broken brain blood vessels. He remained in a coma for 2 1/2 months. One night he woke up. He was fine. He has all his facilities except short-term memory problems and navigation. (navigation yeah-he's Thai and a Man so-- so you know :o )

He now takes HBP meds- but he lives a normal life.

BTW-The total cost billed to AIA was about 1 million baht.

PM anytime if you wish to talk

    HH

  11. I would recommend some nice places on Ko Ngai (southern most krabi)- you have to come though Trang in the "green" season tho.

    Google:

    Thapwarin

    Coco's Cottage

    Ko Ngai resort

Its very quiet here now- but still very nice and sunny.. for now..

Ao Nang is busier with more things open and YES! Railay is stunning!. good luck!

  12. I have more of a problem with the Thai girls, then the farangs. "in season" Hubby and I work together so most farangs meet us as a couple. He's real shy and his English is very basic so, I dont think too much. The Thai's -well, ive gotten used to it by now, the stories I could tell you, like our next door neighbor--oh my! but now, I dont let it bother me too much. In fact I/we joke about it and after 5 years there is more understanding of how things work in this culture clash of our relationship. Speaking and understanding Thai helps greatly. I should add, It's SO MUCH easier after 5 years.

If only the next door neighbor would move.... :o
