  1. I do not understand all the problems everyone is having with TOT. I live in the middle of nowhere near Kamphaeng Phet and am enjoying a Fiber Optic connection directly connected to my house. Yes I pay a pretty penny well 13,500 of them, but, installation was free and the service never has dropped below the quoted speeds. I am in Nirvana. I can of course justify the cost as my firm is paying for it. Maybe I just lucked out!

  2. I hate to break it to you , but I personally know of at least 5 people that protested for the yellow back then and that are now out protesting for the reds. So as long as they keep getting paid their stipend, they cannot protest for the other side. This actually is about democracy but going about it in the nastiest way, irregardless of what side you are on. Politician are all crooks or else they would not spend Millions upon Millions to get a job that pays a mere 2% of their initial investment to get elected.

  3. I have an accountant that handles all work permits etc. and have never had any problem. The accountant costs me 3,000 Baht monthly with another 2400 Baht or so for Social Security etc for my 4 employees within my firm. I do remember paying a lot to set up this company initially, but, that was because I had to set up the firm in Bangkok and then move it to this province as they stated they never had a Thai Amity firm here.

What irks me.... are the countless people living here that have no work permit, Visas of any type, or paying no taxes, yet running establishments catering to the public or teaching here. I wish someone would clean these "freeloaders" out.

  4. So are you a man or a mouse. Crawling in the dust now (losing all of your face) will set a precedence for the future. If he wants money, make him give a specified bill.

If you give in this time, the next time it will be something else. If it is a true amount a bill would not be a problem. If he does not want to give a bill, then it is a scam.

Some fall for it, others not. Would you do it in your own country? Or is Thailand some mystical country where people loose their common sense and give in to everything just to maintain a good relationship? In my opinion the relationship is damaged from the start by him asking for money without anything to back it up.

No bill, no money. Easy as that.

I take exception to that. I am the "MOUSE" and I also would not pay without a invoice.

  5. Given your post (and that you just signed up) I would strongly recommend that you spend a couple of hours reading back through the many relevant discussion threads in this forum (use search function top right of this page) plus review the samuiforsale.com web site.

    - if by shell company, you mean nominee company, they they are illegal

    - the validity of 30+30 year leases are extremely dubious (see very good thread on this topic)

    - you can buy property in the name of your minor daughter (refer earlier threads on this topics)

    - for covenant read 'usufruct', can do (see several relevant threads)

"safe" and "secure" are relative terms with regard to Thai property - basically all your options here have some real and/or potential weaknesses in this regard. probably the best contender would be a foreigner condo but i am assuming you are talking about house/land

there is no one most safe and secure option for all people and all properties .... too many variables including your personal circumstances, the specific nature of the property you are interested in and so on ... you will see what I mean after you read the above material

I write to you from the home and property that is owned by my 8 year old daughter. Make sure you have a prenep agreement that states in the event of divorce or end of relationship in any manner, that you get sole custody of the child that owns the property. Remember that everything on paper is only as good as the people that agree to it.

  6. If I were Samak I'd order in the military to restore order and arrest these hooligans. It's really getting out of control with schools and unies shut. For what?

Samak does not have command of the Military from what I understand. That power is reserved for the Prem and the Monarchy only as the Thai Military serves within Thailand only to protect His Majesty and Thai people from foreign threats

  7. I know Honda reduced their base price by 5% when this came into effect.

At my local Dealership they increased the price of the 3.5 Liter Accord by 240.000 baht. In addition they do not offer the dark leather interior for the lesser models, which makes Honda Accord unacceptable for me due to price and due to mehaving three young children. I guess they lost me for now. Wake me when they get reasonable!

  8. Has anybody here recently built one of those walls made of rocks?

I need about 20 meters long by 2 meters high built, I got some quotes from local constructors, but rather high prices (around 3,000 Baht/sqm).

Love to find somebody doing it for under 2000 Baht.

We built a 20 meter wall at a cost of B1,600 per sq meter with a 30 cm deep foundation. Talked to the people but Chon Buri is too far for them. Lights included by the way!

Can you say where they are located? Too far too travel or what? Really nice looking wall!

    Thanks! Kamphaeng Phet province

  9. Actually the Father can be forced to pay child support through the German Courts. The German Government will go as far as help collect the payments due. The Mother does not have to travel to Germany to activate such action and can do so from within Thailand using a German Attorney. Also the child stands to gain Survivors Benefits should the German husband, ex husband etc expire until the child reaches the age of 18 years.

  11. I have 6 sites hosted with 3iX.org

Very reasonable prices and no really serious problems. Email response when there is an issue has been very good. Bonus is that they have an office in Thailand (Phuket) so you can always call them also.

Concur with that, have 9 sites hosted with them...

Although I don't bother talking to local representatives, their response times on support have been good (few hours).

    Price is good as well...

Me too I have 35 domains with them and found them to be great. Been with them for years. Down time is minimal and the service response time is excellent.

  12. Just purchased a SVOA Notebook for my daughter for her recent birthday at a Computer Fair in Chiang Mai. I strongly suggest to one and all to check around before purchasing one of the new Mini Notebooks. This particular unit has 1 GB RAM, a 30GB Hard Drive, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connection. It also has an integrated Webcam, mic, speakers and weighs in at 1KG and a leather carrying handle as part of the case. Price was 11,900 Baht (USD$360). After setting it up and running it to be backed up to our Home Server and of course playing with it for a while, I am ready to go and get another just me for. This is best innovation since Peanut Butter.

  13. Once a month I stay at the Royal Pincess located at the Night Bazar. Excellent service and facilities. Rooms are great! 2,000 Baht a night which includes breakfast and a dinner if you take the special package.

  14. I was recently examined and treated at RAM. After receiving help from a well versed friend in what test to get, I was off to the Hospital. Although a bit steep for the battery of test required by Thai standards, I was more than satisfied with the test and follow up report. The same treatment and test would have cost more than triple in Europe or in the States.

  15. MSI%20Wind%20GI.jpg

Could the MSI "Wind" be the one to take the "wind" out of ASUS eee's sales?

    MSI Wind: a first look

If they are available in Chiang Mai within June they will be able to sell 3 of them to me, as it is the birthday of all of my three kids coming up in the first week in July and everyday they tell me that they have to have....need...want...desire a computer. Since we have WI-FI in the house, at the office and also at the kids school I am willing to make the jump. However I think MSI is our best chance. Unless of course we waited forever for the DELL to make its way onto the scene.
