  1. Did not get in country until 1970 and then served with Team 75 Dong Tam and Team 66 Can Tho, MACV.

    post-7728-1200965814_thumb.jpg

Incidentally that is one of the original patches I wore over there!

Mouse was Dave Dolby still with Team 75 when you were there?

Name does not ring a bell, but, mind you I only remember Sgt Soto, Sgt Vargas, Major Lee, MSgt Yotsef and Cookie (VN National) who woked in the medical hootch at the Team HQ. Spent most of my time at FB Schroeder, the Wagon Wheel or out in the field.

  2. I am not an attorney, but, would surely think that Mr. Jones was chasing the perpetrators after their housebreaking/theft and intent to kill him, in order to identify and detain them for authorities. The fact that an accident took place between two vehicles and that one motorcycle rider was killed, can likely be atributed to him not wearing a helmet and the fact that the three perpretrators were utilizing a single motorcycle. Vehiclular mishap as far as I can see and the reamining culprits should be cited for not wearing a helmet, riding three on one motorcycle and then be incarcerated until their trial for Housebreaking, Attempted Murder and casuing a death as a result of the crime. In America the two remaining perpretrators would be held accontable for the death of their comrade due to the death being the result of their cirme even if he had experinced a heart attack.

  3. My Thai American Daughter has been invited to go to Italy to visit my exwife (we remained good friends) and her family for a couple of months. Due to work comittments I will not be able to go and rather than turneing my daughter over to an airline hostess, will be sending her to Italy in the company of a dear Italian friend that lives in the same general area and just happens to be going home at that time. Then after the holiday my daughter will retutn to Thailand with my exwife.

My Thai wife is OK with the trip and I wanted to ask what special documentation should we prepare to make my Italian friends escort duties as easy as possible. A letter in Thai and English saying that we are allowing him to escort our daughter to said address etc. What do you think? What would the Italians require?

  4. It is totally legal to own land even when marired to a farang. When buying new land, a farang husband must acknowldge that he did not pay nor hold any claim against the property and that the wife is doing so on her own valition. I see no problem and would suggest your wife proceed as normal. If she does run into a all too knowledgeable person at the property office and she does use her married farang name the problem could surface. For this reason I would suggest that you are nearby in case that they ask you to sign, but, I doubt they will do this. Good luck to you!

As for profiding this info in Thai...sorry!.... no can do!

  5. Any reasonable leads appreciated. Am garnering info at this stage, as I don't have extra money to invest. But am curious about the type of machines that 'print-on-demand' businesses use - when they purport to print a small number of books at a time.

When I googled it, I got some sites that had big Heidelburg-type printing presses, but they seem too heavy duty for what I'm aiming for.

2nd hand in decent condition would be cool, but Thailand is not fertile ground for 2nd hand things.

Let me know if sucessful and I can bring a bit of work your way. At least 50 books two to three times a month. Just PM me!

  6. OK guys

I am at the moment on and 11 month overstay, if I get to Bangkok airport with a ticket and 20k will I be alowed to leave ok, as have heared some strange stores,

Please I know I have been a prat so no telling how stupid I have been

    Steve

Of all the things you have done, this is the most stupid. I would have thought that you would be smarter than to advertise your situation on a public forum and then give your name to boot.

  7. There are quite a few good quality small restaurants in this town. Kamphaeng Phet also boast two large and decently priced Hotels. Not much night life here, other than your occasional sing-along bar. There is a Pizzeria named "Mike's" run by a German, which seems frequented by the local farang. There, you will find the usual assortment of Yanks, Irish and German gheezers that seem to enjoy the local brew.

  8. I too recently encountered this problem while importing 10 Polo Shirts and a pair of Loafers from L.L. BEAN mail order services. Passport, Work Permit required...no problem, sent one of the employees to Bangkok with the 3,000 Baht fee and the required documents, to avoid a hefty import tax, which irks me the most. You see these shirt were made in Thailand and then exported to the US where they are sold by L.L. BEAN. Actually no one plans these problem, that we as foreigners encounter, then again, no one corrects them when they are pointed out as injustices. No wonder many or us old grumpy guys feel dejected here in Thailand.

  9. Just to give you the other side of things. I once was married to a European woman that had graduated from a prestigious University and worked as a Bank manager. After a long courtship I presented her with an Engagement ring, which her Mother (the dear) immediately had appraised. I later found that her mother also had me checked out thoroughly through contacts at my bank etc.

Since then I am of the opinion that the difference between marrying the women that you mention from Thailand and those of the west is none. Prostitution is in my opinion unlicensed marriage, albeit temporarily, which some people seem to prefer to make more permanent in nature. I quite frankly appreciate the honesty. For my wife told me that if I took care of her and quit smoking she would provide me with a football team of children. We kept to our agreement and now have a large and happy family. She has gained stature within her little world and I found true happiness. And a funny thing happened while enroute to this goal over the last ten years, we fell in love.

  11. My workers are trying to tell me that that Thailand is celebrating New Years starting Monday morning on the 31 of December 2007 until the evening of 2 January 2008. They further tell me that they should be off from 29 dec until the 3rd of January 2008. Can somebody set me straight here. I noticed nothing posted here on the forum. Has Thailand not already lost enough productivity?

  12. Sukhothai it seems is famous and is a well known location as a toruist attraction. Yet few seem to know of the city of Kamphaeng Phet which is a town much richer in culture, parks, temples and cultural attractions. I heard that a farang works with the Tourism Authority in Sukhothai and that could account for the difference in being on the map of tourist agencies on a grander scale.

  13. It is said in the old Thai ways that the child does not yet belong to the parents for the first 7 days of life and that the spritis that visit the child are varied and many until the child has a soul of it's own. For this reason a child that dies within 7 days of birth is not granted a funeral. Also one of the spirits will adopt the child as a spritual grandmother, grandfather or elder that will actually protect the child from anything bad. For example my Daughter was saved from drowing in a swimming pool, due to the fact that we heard strange whistling sounds eminating from the area of the pool, which did not come from my Daughter herself as she was under the surface of the water.

You mentioned the rapid eye movement .... It is said in Thailand that the children see things that we as adults no longer have the ability to recognize or understand.

I must say that I am strict Catholic, but, have seen many a strange thing in Thailand, while living here for more than 10 years.

  14. There is a guy in Kamphaeng Phet that was walking aorund the world and he had achieved a total of over 4,000 kms, but, was forced to return to teaching in Thailand as his attempts to find sponsors did not work out as expected. He was doing it in support of a charity in Bangkok run by a Catholic Priest. Last I saw of him was doing what the Irish do best. I am sure that he would restart if the sponsorship materialized. See http://www.world-wide-walk.org for more. As for our northern friend.....a trollific story.

  15. I have been here 10 years and have seen it all. I even knew of a case where the husband (farang) did not care for the money that his baby was getting from many past suitors. Sad, but, he was stuck due to a little girl, they had together and the fact that she spend more than he could ever afford. Then there is the other case where the farang husband allowed his wife to make sexy Internet chats to unsuspecting old timers throughout the world and the money came in drover until she found that guy withthe big bundle. Sad! but have seen it all here.

  16. I have many domains hosted under 3ix and have seldom experienced any problems. When confronted with the seldom problem or the occasional downtime I go to their site and contact an agent entering into chat mode, usually the problem was resolved within minutes.

As a forum members I ask that the moderators eliminate libelous comments that are not substantiated as this can be grounds for lawsuits and is really not fair to people trying to earn a living.
