  1. Bob, it was my exageration. This is its 3rd sale in 18 months, it goes to show something, although I'm not quite sure what. I always thought the best value for money as far as owning a bar in Patong goes would be in the Andaman Queen, but ye gads, who could handle that every night?! :o

  2. From where do you download Derek and Clive?!

Would love to hear it again........."I got cancer of the season ticket" - Class.

As for your dog problem, meh, you'll get used to it, I used to have a frikk.n family of c0cks living nextdoor to me - this software is a pain in the donkey when you can't describe farmyard animals without fear of the hashes - at first you go mad then you get used to it.

Saying that, when I moved into my new place I had the same kinda dog problem, instead of the getting used to it period I crept outside naked and crooned 'Mandy' by Barry Manilow to them - would seem Barry is a fine detterant to Thai Dogs.

Or you could kill everything in the whole wide world. If you were God or jesus and you had the choice, what would you get rid of flies or mosquitoes?

  3. Would I be correct in saying the Nai Harn/Chalong areas are the best places for a not so loaded expat, who wants a bit more of a real Thai experience, and not too much hassle from tourists?

Spot on mate. I was renting a nice 2 bedroom place in Chalong for 9,000 baht / month. I've now downgraded to a 1 bedroom 4,000 baht place in Rawai. Not too touristy, in fact this high season practically passed us by without any notice.

    Which was nice.

  4. Depends on your needs.

Most expats live in Nai Harn - great beaches /Chalong - great restaurants / Rawai - okay nightlife and these areas are all within 5 minutes of each other on the South of the island.

Kata is a very touristy area and not many people live there, although many good restaurants and beaches.

Karon is okay but a bit of a no man's land - more of an area to drive through to get to somewhere else as opposed to a place to live.

Patong is crazyville, beach is saturated with extras, a great place to holiday but it takes a fella with a hardened heart to live there for any length of time.

Kamala is ok but don't expect to keep a dog for many months, again more of a place to pass through.

Surin / Bang Tao is a more high class holiday / residential area, most housing is in the million dollar category, good beaches and restaurants.

Phuket City (cough) is a royal pain in the a.ss for traffic, seems no time of the day is a good time to drive into /out of it. Good nightlife/restaurants.

East coast is becoming more popular but beaches aren't anywhere near as nice as on the west.

Nai Thon is beautiful but far far away from anything.

best bet? put up a tent in the big C carpark.

  5. Get out of here!

What more advice could you possibly glean from this thread?! Boots chemist for condoms and you're cheap from three quarters of the posters. Most of the posts in support of you are from Middle Europe. Most people reccommend you need to go fishing for girls, in the river of love.

the most important question remaining is :D a blaclavared construction worker smiley or a formula one smiley? :o

  6. I bought Talking Heads Stop Making Sense on DVD.

Watched it last night cranked up.

    Brought back some great memories.

They did a wonderful job of re-mixing and re-mastering into 5.1

Thats interseting, I used to live in a place called Torquay in England, there was a great local Talking Heads cover band called the Torquay Heads.

Ok, there wasn't, but if there ever was a talking heads cover band in Torquay, it would be a great name to use....

Anyway, are we close to 15 pages yet?

  7. Those Moon Boots are the dogs!

They make driving a little precarious but overall a very worthwhile investment, I feel a foot taller, sorry gent. :o

The vinyl jumpsuit is a bit hot but will really come into its own during the rainy season.

  8. When registering a 30 year lease I believe you have to pay 1.5% of the total lease value. As for divorcing your wife and remarrying, that sounds a novel approach to get a lot of Farangs off the hook. Maybe you should PM Sunbelt, the Forum spnosor who will be able to offer his advice.

On the lease thing, not the divorce thing. :o
