  1. I am about to have a couple of minor procedures to remove cataracts and the proposed solution suggests very little or no need for glasses afterwards. (Trifocal lenses in the eyes.) Friends tell me that it is a 'life changer' - in a good way. No more need for glasses in their case but everyone is different. https://www.brightviewcenter.com/ A LOT more expensive than glasses though I will know next month.
  2. Good luck. Get up to date with tetanus vaccine as well.
  3. Not just Thais. Plenty of foreigners do the same here on Samui.
  4. There used to be one the other side of Nathon, in-between the two roundabouts, but I think that it closed during Covid.
  5. I did find two places that sold them. 1 by the traffic lights at fisherman's village. Driving from Chaweng to Maenam - immediately before the lights on the left. Have to park on the pavement. 2 was between the lights and Maenam Post Office (I think). On the other side of the road. They elephant one at 1 looked drunk and the one at 2 was too heavy to move. You haver to move them as the sun is not in the same place in the sky all day. ???? Both shops had other designs, but for personal reasons I want an elephant one. I will head to Nathon and further afield when I have some free time. Still lots of guests here.
  6. Otteris are opening up all over the place. Even here in Samui. However, still lots of local places 35 baht per kilo.
  7. Yet before Covid, there were seven other airlines flying into the private airport (which does not receive subsidies from tax payers). Currently there are two other airlines flying to Samui. One on a regular basis, the other 'as and when' there is demand. A lot of visitors used to fly to Suratthani, but Suratthani airport has similar problems to other airports - a lack of planes meaning a lack of regular services. 39 flights to Samui today. 9 flights to Suratthani today. I do not think that cost is the main factor.
  8. Same here. Also, sky diving, white water rafting down the Zambezi, bungy jumping by Victoria Falls, photo safaris in four different African countries and a few other silly things. When my lovely wife died, I went back to the UK to hold a memorial service for her family. I showed them that I had taken her to 42 different countries. We were married in Seychelles back in '89. I have been to more countries - mostly on business. I am more than happy here on a tropical island where I still work (72 next week). My one regret in life - wifey died before me. ???? She was only 55.
  9. Yet most flights are full. Surely, if costs were the reason then flights would be empty?
  10. Is Dan Auto still open? Last couple of times that I drove by, all shut up.
  11. Call immigration and get them to check his TM 30 and visa. Then tell him that they are on the way.
  12. One nearer to Bangrak. Small local garage on the road from Bangrak to Choengmon. Coming from Bangrak, on the left just after the junction to Soi 4. 7/11 on the corner and then lots of cars parked on the road. 081 597 4181 is the number that I have. No idea of the name.
  13. There was a place on the ring road before Maenam. A couple of hundred meters before where Dan Autos used to be. Same side of the road (right side going to Maenam from Bophut). I do not know if it survived Covid though. Sorry.
  14. They have been coming from Chengdu since February. There have even been two 'welcoming' sprays. Not a very well informed article.
  15. And the great Songkran migration has not even started yet. (Or maybe it has?)
  16. No one is really sure. It varies by immigration office and by individual officer on the day sometimes. Put on your best clothes and be ultra polite. Do it soon.
  17. As a senior MP said when asked about his gaol sentence in Australia "but I was only carrying flour!" A ready made excuse for the young lady.
  18. Begging is easier than working. Lots of lazy people in the world today.
  19. Samui has water shortages every year at this time. Yet, inconsiderate owners still keep watering their immaculate lawns, and washing their big expensive cars. The super-duper undersea over-priced and underspec'd pipes were supposed to resolve this. Guess what? Fail. PS Because of the drainage system that has been installed, rain water runs into the sea instead of leaching into the aquifers. No more flooding like it used to, but this is the price. Because the aquifers are running dry, sea water is seeping into them. Result - salty water.
  20. Try reading the full article in the link. Usually more detail there.
