Ford Ranger drivers are the latest dick drivers
Tropicalevo replied to EVENKEEL's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Here on Samui, Ford Ranger drivers are pussies compared to the mini vans and Safari Adventure truck drivers -
Having lived on Koh Samui for more than twenty years, I have had the pleasure of being a 'guest' at each of the six main hospitals here. Yesterday experience was a pleasant surprise. I am booked for a minor op on my eyes next month and was asked to have some blood tests and an EKG test prior to the operation. Went along to Samui Home Clinic - blood tests 400baht, but they could not do the EKG. They gave me a letter for the hospital of my choice explaining that I did not need a consultation with a doctor. (Expensive at some hospitals.) SHC quoted to me the price for the EKG at a couple of the nearest private hospitals. I decided to try the new Wattanapat Hospital in Bophut (on the ring rad opposite Samui Town Centre). Very nice hospital (everything is new) and possibly the largest one on Samui now. Explained what I wanted and went to the usual nurse's station for the height/weight/temp/pulse/blood pressure etc. During the 'MOT' the nurse became concerned (I looked tired and low pulse) and called the doc. Very pleasant (and professional) doc then chatted to me for while and asked if I had any underlying conditions. I laughed and told her to take a seat. Two chronic conditions plus a list of other things including a very large prostate (200ml) which was the reason for the tiredness. Multiple bathroom visits every night for the last six years. Cut a long story short (Covid vaccinations, flu jabs, recommended surgery etc) and the consultation lasted a good 30 minutes. Had the EKG and back to the doc again. Another consultation re the results of the EKG (small abnormality - recommended further tests some time in the future to monitor it). After all of this, I expected quite a large bill. Wrong. Less than 1,000 baht! That was less than the quotes from the other two hospitals plus I had two consultations with the doc. It did not end there. Got back to the office to be told that I needed a medical certificate for my WP renewal. Aaargh! Back to Wattanapat Hospital. Explained to the desk and everyone. They all had a good laugh. Had the blood pressure test, which was missed the first time because of involving the doc. Saw the doc again, then back to the cashier for the medical certificate. FOC! I was impressed by both the service and the cost.

A very emotional subject this one. I watched my son die slowly from untreatable brain tumours. He was no more than a cabbage during his last six months. He wore nappies, in a hospice and had to have everything done for him by the fabulous staff there. Full marks to them but...... There is no way that I will let that happen to me. I am DNR registered and carry an organ donor card. Quality of life is the main thing.

Passport needed for travel around Thailand?
Tropicalevo replied to ChomDo's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Or paper copies of the details page as well as the immigration stamp when you last entered Thailand. Both needed for TM 30 reporting and Samui IO do random checks for them. -
Thailand Improves Rank on World Happiness Report 2023

Did Thailand move up one slot or did someone else move down? How was Thailand's score this year compared with previous pre-Covid years? -
When you had a terminal diagnosis
Tropicalevo replied to georgegeorgia's topic in Health and Medicine
I'm a walking billing machine for the medical profession. Chronic bronchitis (COPD), chronic kidney disease, largest prostate my urologist had ever seen, a fatty liver and gout. Just about to have an operation to remove cataracts and I have been totally deaf in one ear since my teens. Life is great. I eat what I want. ???? ????I drink what I want ????and do what I want. ???? Quality of life is the important thing. My son died aged 38 from untreatable brain tumours. I watched him die a slow, horrible death in a hospice where he could not do anything and had to wear nappies. Not for me. DNR registered and carry an organ donor card. (Heart is 100% OK). All my friends know that I will not die a slow, painful death. 'Nuff said. -
New requirement or not?
Tropicalevo replied to Confuscious's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Just to throw a bit more gasoline onto the fire - I was under the impression that the suspension of the TM 30 reporting for long term folk was only temporary because of Covid. ie they did not want lots of coughing people going to IO offices. Here on Samui they insist on everyone having an up to date one. Once you are set up on-line, it takes two minutes. Why the fuss? -

Frightening that the Chinese have 'police stations' all over the world. Amazed that other governments allow it. -

It's OK for you lot. In the development where I live, the local snake wrangler is me. Just 30 minutes ago I had to remove an immature cobra from my neighbours garden. She was worried about her dogs being bitten.

A good description of the difference between decriminalise and legalise. Same as with Cannabis. It has been decriminalised but is still not legal except for medicinal cannabis. -
Taxi driver banned from picking up passengers
Tropicalevo replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Airport taxis have been ripping people off since Noah was a lad. I had many arguments going from DM to my apartment back in the early 90's. I suppose that the only reason this is news is that they have stopped one driver.
