  1. We cannot quote the Bangkok Post.
  2. Not really protection. Just that they 'patrol' up to the box, sign the paper and go - as in Kinnock's post.
  3. At least he will have lots of friends in gaol.
  4. Quite normal for mines and underground excavations in China, and they are only the ones that are in the press. Not sure of the mix of nationalities of the workforce here, but from the quote below, I suspect mostly Chinese. Life is even more cheap in China.
  5. I agree. They get a lot of walk-ins . Not only tourists but also conscript refugees from both KPN and Samui. Then there are the business visas etc for old farts like me. I know that when my accountant does my business visa, my passport it is AWOL from the office for a while with a number of temporary extensions whilst the company accounts and work permit are also checked and so on.
  6. But when you multiply that by the number of train drivers???
  7. Very well done kh Thawatchai - very courageous. Sadly, post-natal depression can be a killer.
  8. As well as being dangerous. Lanterns and fireworks are banned here on Koh Samui, but then again...........
  9. I am in two minds as to which is worse. The people doing the illegal filming et al, or the people paying to watch. Quite sad really.
  10. Bit bloomin late mate. There are floods in many places already and have been for some time. Oh wait, I forgot. Bangkok is now a risk. All of the dinosaurs might get wet and dinosaurs cannot swim.
  11. Smart trick by the Pheu Thai. Say that the cash handout will boost the economy. Ask the BOT to drop interest rates. BOT say no. Delay the cash handout. BOT says that a delay may force us to drop interest rates. Double whammy for Pheu Thai - they can do the cash handouts after the interest rate is dropped.
  12. We put the ARS ant traps in the villas. No mess, unobtrusive and very effective. Put them where the ant 'trains' appear. They ants do not usually come back
  13. And still nothing forecast for Koh Samui. Mind you, we did have a downpour for an hour or so one evening two weeks ago. Hopefully, October/November will bring some rain.
  14. I read that the 'over 70' rule had always been there. So is this new or an amendment? OR did the Justice Minister lie?
  15. Thailand's integration with its motherland is almost complete then.
  16. I apologise to folk following this thread but I have a smidgen of sympathy for the BBC here. (Only the most minute smidgen though.) The BBC are just confused. Hamas do not target innocent civilians. They tell the world that ALL Israelis are guilty and must be annihilated. Hamas do not differentiate between Israeli civilians and military. Even babies are to be annihilated as they will be guilty when they grow up.
  17. And world domination is just around the corner. Better start learning Mandarin folks.
  18. I think that the Thai workers who are loosing their jobs in Thai factories would disagree with you.
  19. Falklands 1982 and China today. China have already won in the South China Sea. A bullet-less invasion. Russia tried a similar tactic in Ukraine but Ukraine decided to fight back.
  20. Strange attitude - 'we broke the law before and didn't get caught so - rinse repeat'. This was it the last time that I looked. Apparently, the phone app is easier. https://tm30.immigration.go.th/tm30api/loginExternal.jsp?value=EXT&id=11957507b4db9e278b4e1e7460f9c911
  21. Interesting thought. I know that the rules are totally different for workers from Burma, Cambodia, Laos etc but I have no idea what they are.
  22. Normal practice in Thailand. The idea is that it gives the truck driver and/or his family time to discuss blame/compensation with the victim's family before involving police. The numbers are larger once the police are involved. In this case, the driver knows that he can be traced.
  23. Locals in SE Asia, Japan, China etc were wearing masks back when Noah was a boy. Even foreigners here on Samui. It is because of pollution mostly - especially diesel smoke and fumes. Why is it a problem for you?
  24. I need alcohol on the medical wipes that I use to clean wounds. My friend need sit to clean his 3D printer. It does lots of good things.
  25. According to The Nation on Saturday, the expansion of Samui airport has been agreed. As also has the number of flights to be increased to 73 per day. The airport expansion is planned to be completed in three years. There was no date given for the increased number of flights.
