  1. Bride hunting has been going on for ever. Poles, Russians, Slovenians, Ukrainians, etc etc. I worked with a guy in Tokyo back in the early '90's. He was almost retired. His Russian wife was in her mid to late 30's. Drop dead gorgeous lady and and they had lots of sex. They had two children together. His only complaint, she never stopped nagging him.
  2. At the government hospital here on Samui, I tried to get a private room for a friend. She had tuberculosis. Luckily, none available. If we got one, I would have had to stay in the room with her 24/7. Same thing, no nurses.
  3. Still sold in Tops here on Samui I understand that the big breweries have put pressure on the Thai supermarket chains to sell mainly their beers.
  4. Only if the police really want to arrest someone. ie a foreigner.
  5. It is weird all of the different tales from the different hospitals. I paid top $ to have new lenses because of cataracts. Left eye day 1, right eye day 2. No stay in the hospital. Procedure in the mornings, working on the laptop at the hotel in the afternoons. Your two day stay is possibly a money grab. Are you supposed to 'bid' for the private room? I had similar when I went for a colonoscopy. Three day stay in the hospital. (But it was a very nice room.) Private rooms at the government hospital here on Samui - as rare as rocking horse schitt. Private rooms in the six private hospitals - no problem.
  6. Sadly, this kind of thing is not unusual. Luckily, it is not that common. A very good friend of mine had a daughter - aged 12 or 13. Usual story. My friend moved to Bangkok to work, leaving the daughter in the care of her grandmother. The grandmother was caught trying to sell my friend's daughter's virginity. My friend refused to involve the police. She just moved away from her mother, taking the daughter with her. Grandmother was a compulsive gambler. There were more issues after this one but not relevant here.
  7. Hopefully he 'struggled' and they had to 'subdue' him. Violently.
  8. This excuse is going to be very popular. Up there with the 'brake failure' on motor accidents.
  9. We use them on swimming pool overflow tanks. So far, so good. The ball type were always breaking off.
  10. Oh, and my mate in the office next door is going to increase salaries thereby increasing costs. And further down the corridor they are probably looking at increasing taxes so as to get the country out of the poop that it is in.
  11. You could swap the words foreigners and Thai in the last five quotes and that would be similar to posts on AN.
  12. The usual reason is that they take the bulbs out so that they cannot be followed at night.
  13. But Carabao is in Tops and Tops daily. 54 baht for 490 ml.
  14. I had noticed that. Hmmmm interesting. I am enjoying the Dunkel these days but the selection in my beer fridge is quite large. (All available from Tops.)
  15. They should also charge the pilot of the private RB jet that ferries him in and out of the country when he 'pops back'. As the 'law' has admitted that the case was 'probably' mishandled, maybe they should re-instate all of the arrest warrants that have passed their statute of limitations.
  16. My main 'go to' is Tops but Big C is a very close second. Big C's fruit and veg is definitely better than Tops. Tops has a much wider beer selection.
  17. Stop feeling defensive about your habits and look at my comment again. (Maybe before you smoke?) I am not demonising anything. The article is about the dangers of driving under the influence. Yet, as always, ignorant folk think that alcohol is the only problem. Drug driving (any mind-altering drugs) is dangerous. It is now more common in some parts of the world than drink driving, yet most people think that drink driving is the only problem. It's not. and today... https://aseannow.com/topic/1337958-foreigner-steals-taxi-while-high-on-cannabis-crashes-into-lamp-post/
  18. I would add to that - Don't drink, take drugs, or smoke weed and drive.
  19. As you say, nothing yet. The new government has only been officially in place for a week or so. They may have bigger issues to push through.
  20. Two weeks in an ICU unit would indicate either a serious injury or the hospital padding the bill.
  21. You can choose your friends but you cannot choose your family. My own family was totally dysfunctional (but I still loved them) - I could not wait to leave. But I do have some very good friends.
  22. I cannot remember the numbers but I understand that drowning is the most common cause of child deaths in Thailand. https://theaseanpost.com/article/drowning-still-huge-problem-thai-kids
  23. Definitely a crazy world at the moment weather wise. And here on Koh Samui we are still in drought.
  24. What is it with Thai perverts filming people in the privacy of their own place and posting it on public sites. Should they not be fined under the computer crimes act?
