So the speed limit increase only applies to this highway ?

    ROFL

Travelling up the motorway sometimes you see speed cameras over each lane - I remember seeing them flashing and my wife explaining that both the minimum and maximum speeds are different on this part of the road (only this part) and for every lane different too.

No need to say 'drive left unless you're overtaking' right?

who cares about that ?? the alcohol didnt spread the virus; an ongoing illogical thai war against alcohol

Imprinted on them - I discussed this with Thai friends - they just said 'well, when people drink alchohol they're more likely to take off masks and talk loudly so banning it's good'.

They also need to ban shoes, hammers, screwdrivers, forks... indeed anythingi for which you can cook up a fairy tale in which it can be made to look bad.

Allowing 2 units per person, for example, at restaurants for reasonably isolated groups would be 'sensible'. Putting stupid x's around the table is not.

Junta treats them like kids, they learn to prefer that because it's imprinted from Thai School days...

  3. Interesting why they wouldn't be simply arrested for having a party after hours.

Whilst I agree that sharing Shisha isn't a good idea, neither is smoking. However, vaping would be perfectly acceptable in my limited way of thinking. Obviously we must consider the business of the Tobacco Monopoly, and of the FDA - America leads the way in demonising healthier alternatives to Tobacco.

Not much left of Happiness in Thailand ...

I see absolutely no police taking action inside gated Moobahns anywhere - you can smoke your shisha, gamble and drink as much as you like and then drive your ancient cloud belching bus up and down the soi as long as you're not too drunk to get it started.

    No problems with that.

Yes but i don't get the point of why its so hard to give your email or if it bothers you so much to make a separate email account for something like this.

I just wonder how paranoid some posters are.

Its like making a mountain out of an ant hill.

Sometimes you can end up getting a bit sensitive - with an authoritarian regime demanding your passport and personal phone number before you're allowed to take a dump... People who insist you give your details when it's YOU that should be getting a receipt from them.

With Decathlon, however, it's okay - they open up an account for the email  you give them and there's no spam... but you go back a year later and it's still there (and that's how their guarantee works - no receipt required).

With all these pro Democracy protests, now is hardly the time Prayut will considering scrapping his free bodyguards.

Not to mention, he has a lot of very expensive cars that need cleaning.

Surely draftees are so far beneath the dust on the soles of his shoes that they won't get close to such a luxury posting - they'll probably spend most of their time standing waist deep in latrine pits as punishment for being unworthy.

Prayut shoots down bid to scrap military draft

    File photo / AFP

An opposition party’s push for military reform has hit trouble after its draft law to abolish conscription was shot down before making it to Parliament.

The Bill on Military Service proposed by MPs of the now-defunct Future Forward Party failed to get the necessary endorsement from Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who is also a former Army chief.

The proposed legislation is considered “a money bill”, according to the Constitution, and thus requires the prime minister’s nod before it can be sent to the House of Representatives for debate.

A money bill refers to draft legislation dealing with changes to taxes or duties, payment of state funds, or any act binding state properties.

Future Forward’s successor the Kao Klai (Move Forward) Party is carrying forward the anti-conscription campaign, and has criticised General Prayut for “intervening in legislative work for his own political objectives”.

TripAdvisor slaps warning on Thailand's 'Sea View Resort & Spa' review page
    By The Thaiger

I do sympathise with the resort - I can imagine that this 'customer' was a PITA and behaved very badly... however it's much worse that the Law is open to be used in this country this way.

It's a dangerous thing in Thailand to make an 'honest' comment about any service and paves the way for a culture that means you pay what is asked, without any recourse to complain or refuse - whether you got it or not.

Takes me back to my first meal on arriving in Bangkok, I was unable to eat and my Thai friend tasted it and said it looked like they'd put a ton of salt in to render it inedible. Solution? My Thai friend paid cash when I had refused - that made me very angry.

Too long the people are simply dust under the feet not worthy to criticise.

Is that with or without the water cannons used by police with an undisclosed stinging liquid ?

That also damages the image of the country, and the leaders who authorised it.

Would this have  been important if it were not a case of an ANTI govt protester - I do agree that any forms of violence should be clamped down on, but take care not to avoid Yellow Shirts or other violent and unreasonable factions.

Thailand's image is obviously not damaged by the fact that people imprisoned in Australia for heroin trafficking related charges are easily promoted into the highest echelons, and their wives invited also to join the club. So happy to hear this news.

The near future, that is the 2020s decade, is going to be very bad.

I'm a little excited about the concept of quantum computing and AI developing, apart from that we're pretty stuffed IMO.

Last year I came across a theory that the main reason we never contacted with other intelligences in the universe is that development of AI and advanced computing would come  before the ability to travel to other Galaxies... and as AI would solve our issues, then there's no need to go exploring anyway. Seems it's the only real hope we have.

In the app somewhere in the settings is an option to add a bank account.

If you are using a computer you can use this link: https://shopee.co.th/user/account/payment

There you add your bank account and after a few days the money should be back into your bank account.

Genius - refund from Lazada will go to your Shopee account? Nice to see them cooperate. The problem here is that Shopee works, but Lazada f*ked it up.

  11. Wow, that's heavy.

We have a Mitsubishi in the main bedroom - it never gets turned off, just toggled; 27 C daytime, 25 for sleeping and 29 when I go out - it takes a load off the living room aircon, and stops the living room heating up when it's hot outside... It never gets past about 28 in there; with a fridge in the hot kitchen extension running, and the Mitsubishi (which is variable power rather than off/on) we're hitting 2400 in the hot season and maybe reaching 3000 using the living room aircon at weekends.

From my condo life, I remember bills could shoot up from 1000 past 2500 when the aircon was failing or needing a clean, so I'd have that checked out too.

  12. I've been riding bikes - fast slow big and small - since 1981. No helmet ever did anything for me except make my hair greasy and make my head sweat, though on bigger bikes it helps a lot with the wind I'll admit.

Before people get crazy about helmets, they should just think about the culture of drivers and the education, also the kind of police and enforcement they have.

In Thailand, I wear helmets for the police now that I have a scooter - and that's all they're really good for. ON my GSX I wore a helmet and jacket mostly for comfort (and if you ever tried going over 160 with hairy arms you'll know how much that hurts...).

I had a couple of accidents, and every bit of damage I sustained wouldn't have been helped by either clothing or helmet.

So get off your soapbox ???? and start a driving school instead.

I can imagine there's a huge rug to lift up to make this fiasco disappear.

ROFL it's generally pretty transparent - corruption is fine until someone goes out of favour with the richest boss of them all. When he's bored, or someone's just not useful enough anymore, then a good news story uncovers it so that things get shuffled to get more useful people installed.

99% of news here's pretty boring - the system is protected fiercely by royalists.

    What do you mean?

NBA - National Basketball Association, or what?

No - MBA is Master of Business Administration.

There are many kinds of people from West Africa - many are well educated, some are more desperate to make money by any means.

It pays not to be stupid, but it doesn't pay to be racist. I've had dealings with people in the past - and I simply air my predjudices and they generally understand that there are many dodgy WA people here - but then again you should also be very careful with Farang strangers you meet here. My experience is that the much aligned Thai population are generally the safest of people to deal with - if you're not entirely stupid that is (remembering being recommended someone selling 'grey import' Mac Pro computers for 40,000 and collecting a few payments to 'release' the goods from customs before evapourating).

I liked very much the movie     " Avatar" which in my opinion depicted quite fairly humans before civilisation as we know it.

ROFL - it's an anti-American rampage, with unfair references to the Iraq War, preaching environmentalism... WALL-E was much much cleverer.

Also the racist theme of a white man coming to save the indigenous population - as white men are obviously superior - I only gave Avatar a 30% rating because it was actually pretty annoying.
