  1. US soldiers, Afghanistan's Wardak province in 2019, THOMAS WATKINS AFP/File:
  2. This graph show a huge rise in COVID cases in the UK: But, for those with the susceptibility (to "overstimulation"), its accompanying graph, for mortality, is not nearly as "exciting: Despite the deaths remaining "stable" (according to the text on the mortality graph) the published numbers of deaths have been dropping, in 1's and 2's, over the last few weeks. I don't have to worry about a reputation for balanced or informed journalism/scientific opinion, so I will confidently declare that "OMICRON!" is more contagious .........but has reached the stage where it can now be considered, for the vaccinated and "boostered", as "just flu".........at ******* last. Local News (If you are in Cambridge): "Dr Ewen Cameron, of Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, said: "About 80% of patients we've seen over the last few months in general wards and critical care have been unvaccinated." https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-59699891 Happily I (triple jabbed), after 18 months, got to Thailand on the 8th............
  3. I'm sure everything will turn out OK for you eventually. Try visiting Thailand. Best wishes.
  4. They were assigned a sex at birth. It is their gender that they seek to assert. Maybe have a read up on the last 50 years science, with regard to sex and gender, (especially neuro-pathology) before you come back on that. Or perhaps just watch a bit of sport on the "telly"?
  5. Drug legalisation creates as many "problems" as it solves. It encourages use and that adds to the damage caused by the currently legal drug.......alcohol. Broader usage creates more problems with personal relationships. (No violence required) Broader usage creates more problems relating to neglect and abuse of personal health and family responsibility..... health and social services get those. (No violence required) Broader usage multiplies the problems that scare me.........those relating to "operator" errors. The big ones being transport of all kinds. The legal system and, once more, health services get those (No proactive/deliberate violence required, but there is still violence) Does anyone think those sort of problems will actually diminish with greater access to a drug which is constantly excused (oversold), by its proselytisers, because of its "beneficial non-violence", while neglecting its other effects? Alcohol, weed, whatever............drugs.
  6. "Dazzling of Splendid and Happiness" How lovely. Think I'll stick with this: "Oh little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by Yet in thy dark streets shineth, the everlasting light The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above While mortals sleep the angels keep their watch of wondering love Oh morning stars together, proclaim thy holy birth. And praises sing to God the king, and peace to men on earth. Oh little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by Yet in thy dark streets shineth, the everlasting light The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight." Text by Phillips Brooks (1835–1893)
  7. It will become relatively harmless. It is becoming so now. Because the less threatening it is the more chance it has of survival. Because humans will see no purpose in spending time and money to destroy it. It will take it's place alongside the myriad, similarly harmless ailments that currently do no more than make us feel "a bit poorly". Biggest threat from "OMICRON!" is that the teacup, in which the media storm about it is raging, will crack.
  8. The UK: OH MY GOD!....... ......erm, hang on though...... .......and by the way...... PS 17hrs ago: Omicron has caused panic, but no reported deaths yet - AFR "Omicron has been circulating in southern regions of Africa for most of November and although it looks ominous and has jumped continents, there have been no official reports of deaths yet."
  9. Looks like you and I are both on the same roller coaster just now. Only two of us out of the entire AseanNow membership? I would have expected scores of comments from others who were also on that same ride. Does that say something about the present demand for "new"/tourist visas to Thailand?
  10. Just book for the 29th. Send that for the Pass. Tell the hotel you're going to need an early pick-up from the airport..............very early. They'll sort it.
  11. I bought my first VHS recorder, in about 1982, from the TV and Hi-fi department in Selfridges Oxford Street. It was sold to me by a foreign gentlemen who was determined never to return to his country of origin, as the UK was so much nicer. That country? Clue: His name was "Chai" Chotiphong.
  12. This is for you "swissie": PS Ever thought about posting something that wasn't telling everybody how **** everything is going to be in the future?
  13. Wrong with the system, but not necessarily the people. The savage attitude, evinced in the post to which you have replied, is nothing to do with any "system". It definitely is a "people" problem.
  14. Governance and Stewardship...........what is generally expected by electors in the "West". Rulers and Dominion.............what people get in the "East". Rule of law versus rule by law.
  15. The OCDisordered "disinfecting" of surfaces and objects is basically there to make people think they can meaningfully and proactively target the COVID, but: "In a study in which the authors tried to mimic actual conditions in which a surface might be contaminated by a patient, no viable SARS-CoV was detected on surfaces" https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(20)30561-2/fulltext It's a a "feelgood" thing: "When the New York MTA surveyed passengers in late September and early October, three-quarters said that cleaning and disinfecting made them feel safe when using transport" https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00251-4#ref-CR2 As the "Nature" article states, virus on fomites (inanimate virus carriers) are very bad at transmitting viable viral material: "Half of the samples from two hospitals and more than one-third of samples from the quarantine hotel were positive for viral RNA. But none of the viral material was actually able to infect cells, the researchers reported" No doubt your wife will understand when you explain it to her. Good luck with that.
  16. Actually, that's the "Rollie Free" stunt: Book Review: 'Flat Out! The Rollie Free Story' - The Vintagent
  17. It looks like a coffer dam, which was protecting a spillway (that was under maintenance/construction/reconstruction?) was overtopped and collapsed due to the rapid water level increase. Half the spillway works seem to have been carried away and the waterflow is now further eroding the edges of the works and increasing the width of the gap. There appears to be nothing to stop the entire reservoir draining into the surrounding area. Other than that everything is OK. Why was such work not finished long before the commencement of the rainy season? It's allright.....no need to try and answer that question.
  18. Dalai Lama not taking himself too seriously: Try enlightening up "Mr Srisuwan Janya".
  19. Start by limiting the amount of unhappiness you create for yourself.
  20. Here's two recent examples, one being especially horrific, from the UK: Husband burned down the family house to stop his ex getting ... Plymouth shooting: Prayers to remember victims - BBC News Apparently the shooter was "angry" with women. It happens regularly all over the world. But it doesn't get reported so much on the, now even more parochial, "social media" in which some expats bury themselves in Thailand. A lot of them seem to have made a whole new little "box" for themselves in Thailand. They need to get out of it, and think out of it, a bit more. But most of ones that I meet tend to be pretty much rubbish at doing that.
