  1. Siam Commercial Bank SCB were the first in Chiangmai to introduce direct (SWIFT) transfers. Takes about 3 days uk to Thailand. Branches everywhere plus they do online banking as well.

You would need to be in their branch to open an account for fairly obvious reasons. Same reasons worldwide.

Most likely need the right visa and or work permit. But good intentions and a good introduction can circum navigate the need in a lot of cases.

Can recommend an excellent place that is a bit off the 'foreigner' trail and not high profile like Ram.

Many of the Staff that you would encounter speak English. All md cons and NOT afraid to offer advice rather than dish out pills.

3 day stay and natural birth plus a few tests for stuff beyond me was under 20K. Plus gave a quote BEFOREHAND. Ram has a habit of exceeding those.

Lanna .. went there with three dog bites. You have insurance? Yes ok bill 10,500. The place i am talking about above said not more than 2000 for traetment and rabies injection course! Knowledge is a great thing huh:-)

  3. POLECAT::The only difference between the workers in there and around the Gte is that the Spotties and Cosies stay warm while hawking.

Think a rather fundamental difference is that 500 baht i believe commonly known as a 'bar fine' changes hands. I also believe that this goes to the likely foreign owner of the establishment??

May one assume that a percentage goes towards the supporting of the officials of law enforcement??

  4. if i can then tell them that i have transferred the money from abroad i have the slips in england to show that i sent the money to my father in law in thailand. would take be enough to get a tor tor form

    Think you will find>>

a: the money must go into YOUR account.

b: the tor tor saam has to be issued at time of transfer not weeks after.

c: your father in law may be explaining why he receiving funds from abroad. ie taxable income.

The advice offered from what i have just read above is all sound but if you choose to not heed it the world is a free place so your choice.

NOBODY at this forum is attacking anyone in this posting apart from maybe the originator.

All advice is based on experience not thoughts.

My advice is tethink and put in YOUR name or give us all a great reason not to??

The Thai Government has made ownership possible after many years why noy thank them?

  5. Mr Spleen

a million will not buy anything remotely desirable these days in CM:-)

Seriously suggest you follow the advice of ALL posters here and rent for at LEAST a year before throwing your cash away.

We are all serious with that advice for good reason

  6. Mr Spleen

Read all the above and can add for your further entertainment / understanding.

Citizens of the USA tend NOT to rent 5K houses. The 5K ones are fine but US citizens tend to spend nearer 20K to be in a similar environment to 'back home'.

Sure you can buy but it will be in a Thai name. As mentioned above...... BE PREPARED for a loss if you ever decide to leave. Or at least to rent it out whilst you have long gone. There are so many new houses who wants to buy an 'old' one with 'ghosts' (piiii) in it:-)

The average wage for a Thai in CM is 60K a year but realistically you will not survive on that:-)

Schooling as mentioned above eats a lot of cash from 100K to 300K a year depending on the facility.

BKK Universities can be that PER TERM for the top ones.

Entertainment and eating out are very reasonable.

It has to be said that this is due to Westerners now receiving a lot more bahts to the XXXXX (insert your currency) otherwise things are slowly becoming dearer.

As an example. 10 years ago movie ticket was 20 baht now it is 120! 10 years ago 1$ now 3$ so the exchange rate helps counter inflation.

Best of all CM is a great place. Changing rapidly. Modernisation and development brings with it two sides of course but generally considered on the right track by the majority of citizens.

Be prepared to be flexible and keep your hand on your wallet and your head on the same level above the fround that it has been the past years of your life :o

From your findings you say that the Girl was prepared to issue an Non Im O. That is not the same as the 3? mil. visa. ie unless mistaken you will be required to leave the country to refresh it each 90 days. THe 3? mil. one allows a full year.

Which was she going to give you? I can not believe that she was going to hand over the 3? mil. one without checking???

  8. I also noticed that just about everybody in Thailand has a cell phone. It seems to me that most of the people really don 't need them, it's probably a status symbol for them. I guess you could call that materialistic.

No that is called PRACTICAL if you are on the move a lot.

Also installing a phone at home was / is not very easy.

Now looking at the models that some people have may verge on materialistic:-)) but .........

  9. Marrying in Thailand is easy if neither have been married before.

Your friend will know if he has and would be wise to check if the girl has as the Offices in Thailand need proof.

Marriages in Thailand are recognised in UK if registered there . Involves some form translating and some paid for signatures but simple.

    That is the easy bit.

Visa to live in UK not so easy.

The 'wife' would have to apply and prove beyond all doubt that her intentions are honourable. There are many posts here about that. Search a few out.

Would definitely recommend your friend THINKING with his head seriously before marrying anyone, especially from another culture, country.

Spending A LOT of time together in Thailand would be a great idea first.

All things are possible if the intentions are correct. Some take longer than others too:-)

  10. Rules are rules at at your age and intelligence it is for you to sort through what is what.

the guys here offer great advice based on experience. No one can issue you a visa, no matter how nice you are:-)

You say you spoke to someone in UK that said they could do a visa of sorts. Why not go with that and then sort out employment or direction in life whatever:-) when you are in Thailand.

You may find that employer rules bend a little if you are in the right place at the right time??

I could relay a personal story about the application of rules but will refrain. It makes your situation look like a day in the park:-)

Pick your head up my friend and find way. Out of all bad often comes good.

  11. I think the bottom line is: Don't listen to lawyers or agents. Apply for a Non-O

visa first, take all you paper work (purchase agreements, title deed, ect..) to Immigration, talk to them and they will handle it on a case by case situation.

    MBKUDU

Think THE bottom line is that nobody has a clue:-) :o

Guess we wait and try or wait 'til somebody else tries?

Does the person that emailed you actually process visas? Might be worth a visit if so?

  12. Thailand wins key Liverpool stake

BANGKOK, Thailand -- In a deal led by the country's prime minister, Thailand has bought a 30 percent stake in the British football team Liverpool, Thai government sources have confirmed.

The sources said the deal cost 4.6 billion baht, or $115 million.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra raised money from business people and private citizens, the sources said.

    Cool :D:D:o
