  1. Very True & sad to say I also was one who once thought I was safe due to my endurance type training most of my life. Now I am in my 60's & still doing quite well but my eyes have now seen many endurance type athletes suddenly have heart attacks or worse drop dead. Plus many other unrelated problems I also have become aware that endurance athletes can have CAD as much or more than non athletic folks due to the tearing down nature of high intensity over time. "Previous studies have documented the higher prevalence of coronary atherosclerotic plaques among highly trained endurance athletes compared with non athletes" Don't get me wrong I think & so does the cardiologist that I speak with that I am better off overall for it (exercising) But I think those who judge their future needs for health care based on the exemplary diet & exercise they now have may be in for a surprise. Yes of course clean living beats a bad diet/smoking/lack of exercise but it is not a impenetrable shield for possible future problems which may or may not be down to genetics or sheer luck. We age & things are subject to wear & tear self inflicted or not.
  2. Has to be a wind up Six pages of yada yada yada but OP only ever made the original post If not a troll then pretty sad state of affairs when a 42 year old man needs relationship advice on a public forum & cannot decide on a simple matter of visiting GF's family or not Ok I'll play along..... My Advice would be for this girl to run from this sorry excuse of a man ????
  3. I think the whole medical/health tourism was very viable a few years ago but, I think that ship has already sailed when in recent years Thailand not only raised their medical prices but also was in the news allowing hospitals to double charge non Thai patients It's now perfectly legal for Thai public hospitals to charge foreigners double for medical treatment Instead it seems India is now the place many head to for quality & better price when it comes to medical Lastly there are often reports these days of outright price gouging of those caught in a emergency situation in Thailand.
  4. With the exception of Bhutan where isn't it pronounced? This whole "Wealth inequality" mentality these days is similar to some places wanting all players to be winners. No 1st,2nd,3rd etc But please show us examples of places where there is no such thing. It is a get it your dang self service life. Yes some were born to a silver spoon but someone before them earned it Same as many of today's 1st gen richest people ...They had an idea they worked it & they were rewarded Yes they are not equal in wealth to you or I but they earned it & probably created thousands of jobs for others in the process A for Mega Corps.... The mega corps got to be "Mega" because customers supported them Those same customers should not later complain that they got too big as they got too big on the complainers dollars The same complainers are the ones who actually put the mom & pop stores out of business by not supporting them. Instead preferring the better prices at the Mega Corps
  5. No & I do the same as your daughter Meaning use my AT&T sim in Thailand on WiFi calling. Works great But yes no problems when back home I still receive my US banking notifications as usual We also do the opposite with my wife's TrueMove H sim & use it here in the USA on WiFi calling & it is able to get OTP sms from Thai banks which makes it a great tool
  6. Well only those who would eat such processed garbage are being fed ???? Like the saying goes "People who love sausage and respect the law should never watch either one being made," These days I don't eat sausage or watch politics ???? Kidding aside the wife & I gave up processed foods awhile back & feel so much better overall
  7. I have never heard of such a middle man & have transferred millions of baht out of Thailand using Bangkok Bank. But I never used the mobile app. Instead I go into the bank. I was sending max of 1.5 million per time & charge was roughly $30/1000thb (although this was couple years ago now) You may also want to check your receiving bank Is it a major bank or a credit union etc? Some smaller institutions do not receive directly but go thru another bank & that could also have a fee
  8. Years ago when I tried this is what I found too. Shipping was impossible & time lines too long for delivery China seller do ok by sending bulk to a shipper in main countries...like USA then they ship from that stock etc
  9. Thanks & yes I agree & did get a chest x-ray today from a urgent care clinic. They said No radio graphic evidence for acute cardio pulmonary disease (Which I was happy to hear as I was worried it may be a cardiac cough) Lungs expanded & clear no pneumothorax everything normal so that is good. I do live part time in a active volcanic area & exercise daily 60% outdoors for hours at a time So after years of this it may just be affecting me more now. Wonder which is worse volcanic gasses or Chiang Mai air during burn season? ????
  10. Actually I did get into a urgent care place today & did get the chest x-ray I wanted Happy it was all clear But I did ask the LPNR I saw about why the long waits. Was it more patients or less doctors. She said less doctors for sure + increased population here She said majority of doctors we had were all baby boomers & now they are all retiring leaving a vacuum
  11. Maybe somewhat true about reducing the lower cost of living in Thailand but...... I wish I was there now. I am here in the US & in a State that is expensive cost of living & yet you get almost nothing for your insurance When we visit Thailand 3 months a year I am happy to pay for diagnostics I may want & can just get them NOW We often think of moving back full time to Thailand but then say ...yeah but insurance is free here (Medicare) But truthfully it is crap For instance just today ... Tried to see a doctor & am told soonest will be Late August maybe early Sept! I am in great health eat well, exercise no smoking etc but I have had a nagging dry cough for a few weeks. I tried a few different ways & at various locations to get seen & always the same reply...Late Aug. If I were in Thailand now I would walk into a fine hospital & be seen & diagnosed today I'm certain & at a fair price So yes you pay there but at least are served nicely/promptly At this rate I may as well wait till Oct when we are back there. But hate to think of having a cough that long.(If that is the case) I think that is why so many here are seen then diagnosed with something serious as it festers so long
  12. To be clear...You are saying this only about the Thai based policies correct? You feel the International based policies will be stable.. ie: not priced out or 25% increases after big claims etc that you mentioned
  13. Well yes & no Many things are not based on anything but income. So you can own your home outright, have saving etc but low income is the qualifier for many things. Which is nice/fair of them. Many US citizens paid all their life so it is nice if in their older age on reduced income they get a break. ????
  14. Yes but they also have Medicaid which will pay your Medicare part B & also part D for you if you fall under $X amount of income which is nice benefit for those who do.
  15. I am not exactly sure but I think I know what you mean. Last Nov my wife & I were in CM staying up on Canal road. Wanted to do Samoeng from Mae Rim side. The first 30 or so as you say was all on highway & kinda scary. We did get to Samoeng viewpoint & decided to go back same way. Made a slight error because return was worse. Went down some kind of chute/underpass seeing a no bikes sign of course when already in underpass. Was a but scary for sure & as nice as Samoeng ride was it was not worth the danger of that section of highway
  16. Hanging them for treason would be a good start ????
  17. Doesn't matter....In Thailand pretty much any & all drug including alcohol or even nicotine dependencies have at some point escalated to this type of abusive behavior It speaks more to the entitled attitudes many seem to exhibit here. Funny how they also like to show how much respect they have for their elders & on the other hand abuses such as this occur But yes even in our village we have seen young druggies of all substances steal from grandparents to pay for their habits
  18. Ah yes I forgot he also had the clot busting drug but due to time between onset it did not work do they went in thru the groin & luckily retrieved it in his brain. I saw the picture of the retrieved clot. Barley larger than a BB looked like they use the same catheter used to install stents etc Pretty impressive work I thought & he was lucky that hospital was equipped to handle that IMHO
  19. Yes maybe but realize it included going in thru groin to retrieve a clot in the brain. After which he regained normal speech & movement of his right side I think most western countries would be well over 100k USD But I think many expats also get a false sense of prices because of minor interactions/diagnostic tests etc done in Thailand But when the the price is the price. Whether that means the difference of walking/speaking again due to stroke or life or death due to bypass etc it will be a little late to complain/negotiate a better deal or even go hospital shopping
  20. True & why the Int policies as you say are better, I have looked at April INT & looks pretty reasonable overall
  21. I agreed with many who say insure because even if you can self insure once you use it then it is depleted But...While that is true, when I consider further I realize even with insurance a deficit will happen Meaning if I have insurance & have a heart attack & need a stent it seems more than likely the next year they will try to price me out of the policy. At that point if I try to buy at another insurance company coronary problem is preexisting & thus priced again out of reach or not available at all. Also as Sheryl said double tough as many are retiring to Thailand at a 60+ age & not seen as a good risk to insurers to begin with I know someone who just had a stroke due to a clot moving to his brain. A CM hospital took him in no insurance but would not do anything in this time sensitive event (he already couldn't speak) till funds were shown. Luckily his step daughter could handle the problem & they did retrieve the clot from his brain & he is 100% ok now To their credit the hospital performed well. The price was 600k baht & involved 3 day stay
  22. Can you say what you were paying per year & what the renewal amount is? Seems Thai insurers will always eventually price you out of their book as you age Maybe try International like April MH Int? I don't have the current quotes but in 2021 for your age it was $2380 or 73,780 baht per year for $500,000 USD/Euro coverage You can try Wim at AA Insurance He always gets right back to me when I inquire Cell Phone 0971890190 AA Insurance Brokers Co., Ltd.
